…to think that Cadbury's chocolate has gone a bit shit??

Deeply unimportant thread klaxon.

I don't eat chocolate much these days but we have a ton left over from Christmas and as I'm feeling rotten, I thought I'd shovel down a crafty Dairy Milk after dinner today whilst hiding behind the cross-trainer in the spare room. Classy me.

BLURGH! Why did it taste like sugary brown goop?!? This isn't at all how I remember Cadbury's tasting. Is it me or did something happen to the recipe??

Agree that Hershey's tastes of sick too!

NapQueen · 11/04/2017 21:08

A plain and simple bar of Galaxy is heaven in chocolate form. Cadburys is no longer anywhere near a match for it.

DangerousBeanz · 11/04/2017 21:21

Cadbury and Hershey are simply dog shit in foil. Galaxy is better. Thorntons are dead to me now and I'm addicted to Hotel Chocolat. I joined the tasting club. I get a big box through the post every month and I don't share. It's my unguilty pleasure.

gunsandbanjos · 11/04/2017 21:41

I only usually eat dark chocolate but at xmas someone brought in a tin of roses. Nabbed a couple obviously... Ate one and put the rest back, bleurgh!! So grim.

Used to like Cadburys but YANBU it is a big pile of shite now.

I agree hotel chocolat is amazing, addicted to their chocolate covered espresso beans.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 11/04/2017 21:57

I'm convinced they've started putting less milk in it which is why it tastes drier/gloopier.

Only good alternative is Lindt I'm afraid. Cadburys has even bought green & blacks out and I loved their chocolate!

ForTheSakeOfFuck · 11/04/2017 21:59

Wanda Fuck's sake not Toblerone too?? I loved Toblerone. Envy

For the love of god, someone tell me that Terry's Chocolate Oranges are still okay. Please. PLEASE.

I'm seeing a lot of votes for Aldi choc. Might do a taste shoot out between them, Hotel Chocolat, Milka, and any other suggestions that come up.

For science.

Most choccie bars are smaller too. By a good third.

That's to help tackle the obesity crisis i believe. Which is odd as the only think it makes me do is have two of the smaller ones instead of the one single one. Grin

ForTheSakeOfFuck · 11/04/2017 22:04

Fairfax: Femmes de Virunga chocolate (55% milk) is nice and helps support female cocoa growers in Africa.

Added to list of delicious and virtuous treats.

gunsandbanjos: chocolate covered espresso beans.

I have simply not lived. At all. My god. I have a lot of hedonistic catching up to do.

DoomGloomAndKaboom · 11/04/2017 22:13

Cadbury's are tackling the obesity crisis by making the chocolate taste of goose poo (I imagine) so fewer people want to buy it.

For me this has been very effective as my chocolate consumption (which was 90% Cadbury) has reduced considerably.

Gee thanks Cadbury you childhood ruining fuckshits.

Faez · 11/04/2017 22:16

If someone hasn't already said it Freddos are apparently still made with the old recipe and flakes taste the same to me.

GetOrfMyBin · 11/04/2017 22:25

Lots of chocolate tastes like shit now. I used to love creme eggs, but they're not even nice now. Fuckwits.

Mars doesn't taste the same either and it's outrageous the reduction in the size of bars across the board.

Terry's chocolate orange has also changed.

Bring back the 90's Grin

ForTheSakeOfFuck · 11/04/2017 22:27

Pixies NOOOOOOOOOO!!!

What the hell happened to the ENTIRE chocolate market whilst I wasn't watching? Screw Brexit. THIS is where shit gets real. I want my damned chocolate back.

All this hotel chocolat and Aldi chat is fine if you plan your chocolate cravings in advance, I need something I can pick up in WH Smith's or a corner shop!

I always found galaxy to creamy and sweet but at least it melts in your mouth dairy milk is almost crumbly now.

Lucked · 11/04/2017 22:35

Okay flakes, twirls and freddos. I wonder if flakes and twirls just can't be made with the new recipe - perhaps the structure won't hold together.

SuperBeagle · 11/04/2017 22:52

I also boycott all chocolate made with palm oil.

I've only bought Haigh's (Australian) chocolate for the last 18+ months. Expensive, but it means I eat less of it and at least I know that it's 1) made locally, 2) does not contain palm oil, and 3) tastes fucking fab.

Shits me when people my mother claim the palm oil is "ethically sourced... because Cadbury said so", and so continue to buy it.

ForTheSakeOfFuck · 11/04/2017 22:57

At the risk of putting myself on some awful MN Excel of Shame, what's the deal with palm oil?

OP posts:
ForTheSakeOfFuck · 11/04/2017 22:57

Apart from tasting like seagull shit, of course.

ShatnersBassoon · 11/04/2017 22:59

It's waxy, gritty, bland and lacks crack and melt.

I've posted this on dozens of these threads, but I still enjoy bitching about Cadbury's. I will never tire of knocking their shitty product.

Oakmaiden · 11/04/2017 23:04

I only liked Cadburys chocolate. Now I am chocolateless. It is a very sad place to be.

ShatnersBassoon · 11/04/2017 23:06

The chocolate I didn't like so much before, when Cadbury's was so nice, is now OK. Galaxy used to be too sweet for me, but at least it acts like chocolate in that it melts and has a chocolatey taste.

MountainDweller · 11/04/2017 23:07

It's vile.

I just ordered some chocolate from NOM NOM, a small Welsh company that was featured on the Kate Humble BBC programme about rural businesses. It is absolutely delicious. Expensive (£4-5 for 100g) but totally worth it!

Teabagtits · 11/04/2017 23:12

Cadbury's chocolate is disgusting. I'm not a chocolate fan but enjoyed the odd mini egg and melting chocolate buttons in a banana. Only problem is cadbury's buttons don't seem to melt anymore. Wtf?
