…to think that Cadbury's chocolate has gone a bit shit??

Deeply unimportant thread klaxon.

I don't eat chocolate much these days but we have a ton left over from Christmas and as I'm feeling rotten, I thought I'd shovel down a crafty Dairy Milk after dinner today whilst hiding behind the cross-trainer in the spare room. Classy me.

BLURGH! Why did it taste like sugary brown goop?!? This isn't at all how I remember Cadbury's tasting. Is it me or did something happen to the recipe??

It tastes of walrus cock. #cadburywalruscock

I go for high cocoa, milk chocolate nowadays.

There's an amazing chocolate shop in Pembrokeshire that make their own chocolate that is gorgeous. It's a bit more expensive but worth it. Just a shame it's about 6 hours drive from me.

Lol at walrus cock. Too true.
It's crap since kraft bought it out. Makes me mad as loads of my family worked there over the years. My nan and grandad met there. It's in my blood and now they've RUINED it. Pah.

My grandad would be turning in his grave at creme eggs as he was on the team which invented them Sad

I hate kraft.

I've had Haigh's and Whittakers and for me Whittakers wins- 72% Dark Ghana- yum!

You've got Kiwi in your name, I'd expect nothing less! Grin

Whittakers is good though. Definitely less pricey which is always nice!

I have not tried walrus cock but I'm willing to believe it tastes better than Cadbury's.

Super, I'm in WA and I don't think we get Haigh's! Sad

How do you both know what walrus cock tastes like? 😂

Koala In previous decades it would have been unthinkable that chocolate even saw out the week, but then DS arrived, and MIL who is convinced we feed our child nothing but shit brings him approximately twenty to thirty chocolate gifts for each occasion, lots of them large selection boxes etc.. I am not kidding. There will be a pike for Christmas. Then more for his birthday in January. And the Easter eggs have already started arriving. I think we have four adult-sized ones that she's brought for him stuffed in the cupboard too, and she will turn up at Easter with eight or nine more at the very least. No amount of telling her to stop has the least impact.

And of course most of it is Cadbury's. It's crazy. I've ended up gifting it to neighbours, donating it to food banks, and at least half ends up going into work with me for my office mates to share because we can't get through it fast enough. God they must think I have disgusting taste… Confused

Er, a pile. At least I could find uses for a pike.

Right, many ideas for alternatives to try on this thread. Excellent. I may not be able to stop the avalanche of Cadbury's coming in but I can fill a corner of a high, obscure cupboard with my own little collection of decent stuff.

Cheers all. 2017 may be a post-apocalyptic wasteland for chocolate but I feel like I have the knowledge I now need to survive.

I boycott cadburys as they dont pay their taxes, it makes me so sad such an ethical company gone to shit.

I had a Lidl salted caramel egg yesterday, it was incredible.

I love Cadburys chocolate, it really is my favourite.
Don't like thorntons at all, it tastes cheap and nasty to me.
Hotel chocolat used to be so much better too. Before they had shops everywhere, you could get a box and open it and the smell would be incredible, each chocolate amazing. Now they just seem more like standard mass produced, overpriced stuff.
I've come to the conclusion I just prefer cadburys!

Every Cadbury's chocolate bar I have tried to eat since the take over has ended up with one mouthful taken before it hits the bin. Even my human dustbin of a husband won't eat it. The thought that I will never enjoy a Starbar or Fruit and Nut again makes me really sad actually.

As for alternatives, for that cheap chocolate hit that is similar to the way Cadbury's used to be, I buy Aldi's Dairyfine in the blue bar. They also do Dairyfine kinder bar rip offs in a box too which are pretty nice. I love the hazelnut one and the cookies and milk version. Lidl do a "finest" milk chocolate bar in a box type sleeve that is really milky and nice too.

At the other end of the price scale, I agree that Hotel Chocolat is lovely.

Super I will say that Haigh's is the one type of Australian chocolate that I've found to be quite nice Smile I was given a dark peppermint crisp type that I thoroughly enjoyed!

I agree. It's no longer got that unique Cadbury taste. It doesn't taste nice at all and is very disappointing.

I like green and blacks milk chocolate now, but it's expensive and not as widely available.

God dammit. Talking about chocolate all last night and this morning and now all I want is a chuffing huge box full to eat by myself on the couch, now that the DCs are in bed. But noooo... all we have in is Sadbury's. Envy < not envy
