Potato waffles in the toaster?

Discobabe98 · 08/04/2017 16:54

Sorry I didn't know where to post but..

Found this out when my friend and I came home pissed and I watched her fly some in the toaster in awe. How have I never known this?
Toasted once on defrost, once on normal. Took 4 minutes. I feel like my life has been completely changed. Grin

Potato waffles in the toaster is the very definition of "life hack". I leave mine about ten minutes to get them nice and brown.

BTW cheese on toast in a toaster doesn't work. I tried it once with the toaster on its side, luckily it was an old toaster...

luckylucky24 · 08/04/2017 17:37

We do this. Fish fingers do not work though! DH blew the electrics trying.

Discobabe98 · 08/04/2017 17:37

Lux aha I was actually going to name this thread Potato waffles life hack but I know some people get really wound up about the term Wink Cheese on toast in the toaster sounds like the exact sort of thing I'd try.. so now I know not to do that one at least Grin

Samosas in a sandwich bag Smile

RubbishMantra · 08/04/2017 17:42

Before I got a sandwich toaster, I was desperate for a cheese toastie. I folded it in foil and ironed it.

Discobabe98 · 08/04/2017 17:44

Rubbish did it work?? Grin Always see that kind of thing on Student Hacks type Fb pages Grin

dingit Do sandwich bags do the same as those specific 'toaster bag' ones? Sounds like a good tip Grin

It's a fire hazard! I think because of the small amount of oil in the waffles, which builds up in the toaster over time.

PovertyPain · 08/04/2017 17:48

You're better putting them in a toasted bag, or the toaster might start smoking after a while. I do veg fingers, potato bread (put two in one bag, then swap them over, so both sides get done), veg burgers, even veg sau sages if impatient.

SoupDragon · 08/04/2017 17:49

Do not put a plastic sandwich bag in the toaster!!

Scottishchick39 · 08/04/2017 17:50

I've done this since I was a student over 20 years ago, I didn't even realise that not a lot of people knew about it until Jason Manford posted about it on Facebook.

RubbishMantra · 08/04/2017 18:07

It actually worked, Disco! Used a ciabatta...Perhaps was a bit too enthusiastic on the ironing. Twas V. flat, yet with a gooey filling. I think I learnt that from Benny and June, a Johnny Depp film. Useful life skill, ironing sandwiches. It actually tasted nicer than my new fangled sandwich maker's offerings. Which I've only used once. Sad

My DSis once woke up with the hotel room kettle full of curry.

Areyoufree · 08/04/2017 18:10

Wait a minute...A toaster bag? Such things exist? I may never use my oven again!

BikeRunSki · 08/04/2017 18:11

I used to iron toasties as a student. We only reached the heady heights of toaster-ownership after graduation. Goodness only knows why we actually had an iron!

BikeRunSki · 08/04/2017 18:12

Toaster Bags

Foggymist · 08/04/2017 18:13

This is how I've always done it, my mum did it since I can remember. I think I've seen them done under a grill once and was Shock I do them twice on highest setting, nice and crispy.

Rainydayzandmondays13 · 08/04/2017 18:15

Haha I didn't know this either till I moved in with my now fiance. Now it's the only way I do it.

EpoxyResin · 08/04/2017 18:17

DON'T DO IT! I used to do this as a drunk teenager. Eventually the toaster caught fire. Mum was not happy! So what happens is the grease melts out of the waffles, builds up, mixes with the crumbs in there and eventually catches fire. And you can't clean the inside of a toaster. This is my warning to you!!

mymatemarmite · 08/04/2017 18:18

I saw on Fb one day some friends were staying in a travel lodge and cooked eggs in the kettle for breakfast. I've yet to try it so no idea if it works!

KavvLar · 08/04/2017 18:19

How do you do fish fingers in the toaster?? Is it toaster bag and then just keep hammering them back down until they are done? Not sure we have a defrost button cheap toaster

Foggymist · 08/04/2017 18:19

I have never had a toaster catch fire in 20+ years of doing this. Unless you eat a looooot of waffles, like every day...?

Areyoufree · 08/04/2017 18:19

@BikeRunSki Shock

EpoxyResin · 08/04/2017 18:19

X post!

EpoxyResin · 08/04/2017 18:21

I was a teenager, me and my drink mates would eat them after nights out. So no, not every day. And it didn't take long til we had a fire. Just because taking a risk doesn't always result a bad thing happening doesn't mean it isn't a very real risk!

jmh740 · 08/04/2017 18:35

I do waffles in the toaster and fish fingers in a toasties bag
