It wouldn't hurt to get a few extra food supplies in (of the non perishable sort). Would it?
Or is it being ott.

I bet the shops love people like me Hmm

I'm fat. I reckon I'd have a month or two before I starved to death.

brickinitIam · 07/04/2017 22:03

Iris
Either I'm doing it wrong, but the effects don't' spread out as far as I thought they would. Confused

However you're stuffed if you live in, or close to London.

Clearly, not even nuclear mushroom clouds will go south of the river.
Best we can hope for is an off course rocket. Grin

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 07/04/2017 22:08

We have gas masks! DH in the royal navy. Hoping that might give me a heads up

Wando1986 · 07/04/2017 22:08

Watch Threads. Then have disposable bbqs to hand to go peacefully when you're dying from radiation poisoning or going blind from the sunlight through the hole in the atmosphere afterwards.

Tenementfunster · 07/04/2017 22:11

So sunglasses will be a real boon thenGrin

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 07/04/2017 22:14

I think it's more likely to be viral. If bird flu (highly fatal) combines and mutates with swine flu (highly transmissible) we'll be screwed. I am a vet so stockpiling drugs is easy. I can get hazmat suits too.

ProjectGainsborough · 07/04/2017 22:14

I need to know what country Chippie is from.

Lweji · 07/04/2017 22:17

If bird flu (highly fatal) combines and mutates with swine flu (highly transmissible) we'll be screwed

But if you combine high fatality with high transmission, you end up with a small population so disperse that transmission is quite difficult.
Not enough to wipe us out completely. Just about 90% of the population or so.

Can't help feeling that it helps not being partially sound of mind to be a prepper.

Anything beyond having enough to cope with a week of severe weather or a major failure power sounds a tad paranoid. To have actually trained in preserving food, water treatment, defense etc. specifically for the event of something like a nuclear war, sounds chronically paranoid.

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 07/04/2017 22:22

Well exactly! And we'll be the 10 per cent that survives!

freeDeirdreRachid · 07/04/2017 22:23

Gas masks are useful but be careful the police don't like you having them as you are immune to tear gas!

They are legal but frowned on

Better tell Amazon that then

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 07/04/2017 22:24

It may sound mad tizzydongue but it's true the people who prep will be those that survive

Lweji · 07/04/2017 22:31

Well exactly! And we'll be the 10 per cent that survives!

Actually, no. The 10% will be those who are immune or stay away from other people, and wash their hands all the time.

freeDeirdreRachid · 07/04/2017 22:33

It may sound mad tizzydongue but it's true the people who prep will be those that survive

No they won't.

TizzyDongue · 07/04/2017 22:35

It sounds mad ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs because it is.

I seriously doubt anyone who is paranoid (to the point mentally instability) in a normally functioning country will cope psychologically in a nuclear war.

TizzyDongue · 07/04/2017 22:37

Plus having loads of supplies won't create a magical shield that somehow protects you.

wasonthelist · 07/04/2017 22:40

the police don't like you having them

Aye right they are always moaning about that round here :)

wasonthelist · 07/04/2017 22:40

It may sound mad tizzydongue but it's true the people who prep will be those that survive

No it isn't, it's bollocks.

Alconleigh · 07/04/2017 22:43

I've watched a lot of Walking Dead. Zombies not nuclear clearly but let's not split hairs.

You don't want to be one of the survivors tbh. It's just a brutal grind for survival and the other survivors are what will kill you in the end as humanity turns on itself. Go out while there is still gin and crisps.

CakesAreBiscuitsToo · 07/04/2017 22:46
Shock

In the event of a pretty hefty nuclear bomb on Westminster- it doesn't even take out The City!

I thought life in Zone 2 would at least have the benefit of immediate decimation! We will just get everyone running away towards us!

That bomb blaster thing can't be correct.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2017 22:52

I've considered things carefully for a while and come to the conclusion that home brew is the answer.

CherriesInTheSnow · 07/04/2017 22:52

Wahahahahaahhh :( This thread is terrifying!! I'm 9 weeks pregnant, what will I do if WW3 strikes before I give birth?

Should I begin subtly stocking up on non perishables, or will OH think I've gone off the deep end? Confused

Tenementfunster · 07/04/2017 22:53

GrinGrinGrin screw you, zone 2. We will budge up in the burns ward for you !

CakesAreBiscuitsToo · 07/04/2017 23:00

Ha! Cheers, for that, tenement perhaps we will be caught up in the run towards Zone 5!

Which bomb did someome drop to decimate Zone 2? (I'm sure someone said Zone 2 was decimated.)

I need reassurance of decimation please. Zone 2.
