It wouldn't hurt to get a few extra food supplies in (of the non perishable sort). Would it?
Or is it being ott.

I bet the shops love people like me Hmm

I imagine your cat is on a Catsnet thread planning to "get rid" of you, Lweji

CakesAreBiscuitsToo
(Honest to God your username makes me that hungry...) TBF wiping hipsters from the face of the Earth would be a popular move in many circles Wink

I suppose it's easy to forget just how huge London is: 1572 square kilometres to Hiroshima's 906.5 or Nagasaki's 406.4 - and those are the modern figures. And of course part of the reason the cities burned as they did in 1945 was the wooden buildings.

Ugh. Humans. I mean, I have a lot of time for many individuals of the species, but taken as a whole, we're pretty crap. The Earth did not deserve this shite. (I mean, in as much as a planet can merit something...)

SideOrderofSprouts · 08/04/2017 20:11

In all honesty I think it will be a cyber attack to take down the national grid rather than anything else.

PortiaCastis · 08/04/2017 20:12

Certainly an attack on communications

user1477249785 · 08/04/2017 20:21

I live in London. A few years back, I decided that we needed lots of extra supplies of water and crammed our then tiny flat with bottles and bottles of it. DH thought it was hilarious and never missed an opportunity to laugh at me about it. That Christmas, with a one year old and DS2 due any day, the water went out on Christmas day. We were without for about six hours. My water saved that day - we used it to cook vegetables, wash small child, make milk for him etc. I was SO unbearably smug for about a year.

Those saying 'what have I missed?' Do you not watch the news?

Why assume nuclear? That's suicidal there's far more likelihood it'll be biological. And genetically targeted too. That way soil and water preserved for the victors.

Another who grew up with it (army dad), so...gun n ammo (safely stored) I don't currently have one though. First aid training & kit always up to date, always have decent knives, bottled water, non-perishable food that can be eaten cold, know how to forage, hunt & fish (although veggie but needs must), candles, matches, wind up torches and radio, wind up phone charger...

If it IS nuclear we're done for first day - less than 10 miles from major military target. That's fine by me. If it's for any reason not immediately killed I've enough rum, opioids and tranqs to see dd and I off.

"Hardened criminals will likely fare the best." Yep my dads said same. They won't be struggling with the morality as much.

"An old icecream container with a couple of odd assorted bandaids, a triangular bandage from a first aid course and a box of ibuprofen" 😂😂😂

"My problem with stockpiling is use by dates. I can hardly keep up with some long lasting items at home, let alone making sure a huge stockpile doesn't spoil." Tins last decades! Use by is only on short term perishables, everything else is best before which is a quality/taste issue.

'I can't stockpile water' purification tablets.

"All the worst murderers, rapists and paedophiles will be spilling out of the prisons that can no longer hold them...... apocalyptic indeed!" There's contingency plans on that score 😉

mollyhuacha has just outed herself as either Theresa May or the queen! 😂😂

"I read somewhere that you should learn some sort of traditional craft. You are then useful/ valuable. IT will be useless, but spinning thread..." You mean

hunting, fishing foraging? ✔️
Spinning ✔️
Knitting ✔️
Sewing ✔️
Whittling✔️
Felting✔️
First aid/nursing✔️
Herbal knowledge (medicinal)✔️
Basic construction (shelter, 'plates' 'pots' from natural materials, materials for hunting etc)✔️
Start a fire without a match ✔️
milk animals ✔️
Make butter/cheese/bread/pastry ✔️

You don't spin thread you spin wool btw😉

"I only prep for a 3 day power outage, or a bit of heavy rain" live rurally in Scotland you'll soon learn 😉 here people stockpile rock salt, candles and batteries as a norm!

Zone 5 - depends where in zone 5 you are. For instant death you need to be within 20 miles of a target. (In London the obvious is govt/royals but there are the military installations too of course). Depending on size of bomb of course. But it's not the direct hit that's the worst its afterwards! As pp have said.

possum interesting but not completely realistic as town centre wouldn't likely be hit, it'd be one of the nearby military bases.

Targets:
Govt
Military
Medical
Industrial (to prevent switch to armoury production)
Food & water treatment

"I think we are already in WW3 (and have been for some time) and are likely to face many severe cyber attacks" me too, it simply hasn't been reported. It's like people saying 'WWII started 1 Sep 1939' no that was just the invasion of Poland, there was loads going on WAY before then.

Worth prepping for: financial crisis, fuel shortage, flooding & other extreme weather, political coup not just war but my money's on:

pandemic, personally I think it'll be the bloody anti-vaxers and ab over users that'll be our downfall because it's a stealth threat hardly anyone's preparing for inc govts 😡

Lweji · 08/04/2017 22:06

Certainly an attack on communications

Now, that's worse than nuclear war.
What would I do without MN?

BaggypantsCrimplesnitch · 09/04/2017 00:23

Well, DH and i live close to not one, but two USAF bases (which has probably given away our location pretty comprehensively), so i don't think there's a whole lot of point in prepping as our chance of surviving the first exchange is probably slightly less than the square root of fuck all...

mimishimmi · 09/04/2017 03:06

The awful thing is, the fuckers who start it will be the few (and their families) who are able to survive it.

This. The whole point is the target is us. They want a repeat of the death and labour camps of WW2 to maintain their bankster world. So unless we agree with their nutty racial purity views of the world and nefarious plans to wipe out whole groups of people they don't like, we're screwed anyway. Like we were before.

angelofthenorthcircular · 09/04/2017 07:57

I think they've started with the Sky Go app - they're wearing us down one crap update at a time

It would be easy to label you a crank....but then there is the situation where the mega-rich are setting up fallback positions:

seasontotaste · 09/04/2017 09:25

Reading all this makes me think a means of committing suicide might come in handy. Sad

raviolidreaming · 09/04/2017 10:12

I can't decide if this thread is fascinating, hilarious, worrying or some godforsaken spawn of all three grin

Me neither!

Raggydolly3 · 09/04/2017 11:09

Putin and Trump are not the ones you need to worry about.
Think about it they both crave power and to have power you need people under you. They both know dam well that if they started anything the world would go into meltdown and more then likely start a chain reaction where a lot of counties are using there Nulclear weapons so most of the work would be wiped out.
Trump and Putin safe in bunker come out after so long to nothing, absolutely nothing. No people left-
no power
No point
But by all means stock up if it makes you feel better you are not doing anyone any harm by doing so

makeourfuture · 09/04/2017 11:22

Well, if you think of the Japanese Tsunami. You are sitting in your home or out shopping or at work. Maybe bored or happy or slightly mad at something.

And you look down the street or out the window and this thing is coming at you. And maybe you have a family, an older mother in a care home somewhere.

This fitness person I was reading did a bit of light science to determine what the minimal level of fitness should be. He said at the very least, you should be able to sprint - head down arms pumping knees up running - for two hundred metres. This will get you away from most things. You should be able to tread water for one hour and swim one half mile. Most water relate things happen within the sight of land and rescue happens pretty quickly in most cases.

Most do not choose suicide. Looking at past times of great upheaval, most decide to live.

BeyondUser24601 · 09/04/2017 12:17

There is a difference between "great upheaval" and "goddamn apocalyptic" though. Grin

I don't think anyone here has said they would give up in a "great upheaval" situation?

StUmbrageinSkelt · 09/04/2017 12:47

We've got meds, some water and enough food for a fair while here.

One of my sons would be dead within a month though without elemental formula and various other things that keep him alive. We've just been through a nationwide shortage of formula for a month (thanks so much Nestle you shower of cunts) and a major natural disaster on our doorstep last week.

I'm team use all the meds we have and the alcohol we have for a peaceful end.

EffinElle · 09/04/2017 12:50

I'm prepping for the fuck up that is brexit, as for nuclear war I'd rather be killed quickly than survive.

Lweji · 09/04/2017 15:05

I don't think anyone here has said they would give up in a "great upheaval" situation?

Exactly, but with the body covered in 2nd and 3rd degree burns, or the certainty of devastating poisonous radioactivity or widespread cancers, AND no health or social care structure, then what's the point?

raviolidreaming · 09/04/2017 20:23

or the certainty of devastating poisonous radioactivity or widespread cancers

You need to chum up with Tobolsk, with their Potassium Iodide tablets from Amazon to protect against some of that...

taytopotato · 10/04/2017 13:56

THese children from [[https://vimeo.com/163277160 West Rise Infant School{] are prepped!

Me too willow. Though I have wondered just how far a shitload of adrenaline would get me in a shtf type scenario Grin
