It wouldn't hurt to get a few extra food supplies in (of the non perishable sort). Would it?
Or is it being ott.

I bet the shops love people like me Hmm

How weasel-ish. I'll be out fighting and helping people. I'll eat whatever scraps I find.

Grin Grin

Hurrah for you and derring-do!

I'll be in the corner with the weasels.

makeourfuture · 07/04/2017 16:27

I think the best scenario would be to belong to the local police force. You may be able to make it through the immediate chaos and Marshall law phase.

Fl0ellafunbags · 07/04/2017 16:28

What I'm learning from this is that I need an emergency bottle of gin.

Tobolsk · 07/04/2017 16:28

Foxysoxy01

Not that long 2-3 weeks inside,

Groundwater will be ok

You would need to scrape away the top couple of inches of soil in your garden before you planted anything

NotStoppedAllDay · 07/04/2017 16:29

You might survive physically. But what about psychologically?

Watching your small children and squaring it with whatever your situation is? If anything happened to you what would happen to your kids? You'd think about that. A lot

MitzyLeFrouf · 07/04/2017 16:29

I'd be worried that after a fortnight or so any bunker style scenario would go the way of Downfall.

LordScuttlebutt · 07/04/2017 16:30

If the world has come to nuking each other, there's no hope for the future of the human race anyway.

upperlimit · 07/04/2017 16:32

Everyone will be stocking up on food, suckers. I was thinking about ram-raiding all the local chemists and then becoming a post-apocalypse drug trader and I will make grossly unethical trades for everyone's hoarded good stuff and, eventually, I will become head bitch of the land. I'm going to wait for the sirens to go off first though, I'm not crazy.

Tobolsk · 07/04/2017 16:34

We have both done first aid courses Medical supplies include first aid kit, burn kit and bleeding kit. Means we can treat the more common issues.

Potassium iodide tablets are on Amazon. They protect from some radiation based cancers.

We have off the shelf medications, and a list of prescription medication names. So if we needed to scavenge from a pharmacy we knew what we were looking for.

and there's me with my extra cans of baked beans Smile

The only way to prep for ww3 is to have enough sleeping pills/xanax stored away so you can euthanize you and your loved ones if you are unlucky enough to survive the initial attacks.

MitzyLeFrouf · 07/04/2017 16:35

You could hit her over the head with the beans and make off with her stash of Anadin Extra. Cackling as you went.

brickinitIam · 07/04/2017 16:35

Tobolsk, how long has it taken you to get it all together?
Weeks? months? years?

OP posts:
upperlimit · 07/04/2017 16:38

I think you are grossly under-estimating my skills Mitzy. I won't be undone by a can of baked beans Hmm

ChippieFishieHorshie · 07/04/2017 16:39

Not in case of WW3.

But food shortage is something that could actually happen. (war, natural disaster, terrorism).

Back home we're told by the governement to have a food storage. So I did this as well. DH thinks I'm mental, but why not? It's actually kind of entertaining Blush

Puddington · 07/04/2017 16:39

Think I'll have to agree with SpringerS here, I have also read The Road and while it's a work of fiction I can't imagine the reality would be much brighter than that for the vast majority of people.

Salmotrutta · 07/04/2017 16:39

If it's nuclear then I don't really want to survive.

I remember "Threads"

noeffingidea · 07/04/2017 16:40

SpringerS couldn't have put it better myself.

Tobolsk · 07/04/2017 16:42

We have done this over the course of 2 years.

A couple extra cans in each weekly shop soon adds up.

We started a veg garden 3 years ago and save the seeds learn how to preserve it.

We did the odd first aid course when we saw them, a mushroom course at the WI etc.

The best way I can discribe it is if you try to live as self sufficiently as possible the prepping kinda just happens naturally.

taytopotato · 07/04/2017 16:42

Watch Blackout and assess how are you doing to handle the situation.

CoolCarrie · 07/04/2017 16:42

Definitely going out with a bang, lots of wine and champagne

HateSummer · 07/04/2017 16:42

You're all lightweights Grin. WWIII will need a heroine...Its gonna be me. My name will go down in the history books. People will study my escapades and find out how normal folk decided to sit in their homes, eat their endless cans of beans and die of fart poisoning. Sad.

LurkingHusband · 07/04/2017 16:44

I think the best scenario would be to belong to the local police force.

During WW2, one of the auxiliary units top assassination target was local law enforcement (as they would be working with the occupying German army).

Salmotrutta · 07/04/2017 16:44

And yes, I think there will be hordes of people rampaging around all tooled-up with weapons and stealing from the Preppers.

I would probably stock up on wine and fags, get up to the top of Ben Nevis and have a party with any like-minded people.

I've seen too many post-apocalyptic type films Grin

ragz134 · 07/04/2017 16:44

DH and I were heavily into "prepping" for a few years, we have water and food, camping supplies etc to hand if needed. Skills to hunt and forage if necessary. But we are more focussed on real life these days and planning a more hopeful future. Which I feel is better for our mental health. Prepping can become all-consuming if you're not careful.
