It wouldn't hurt to get a few extra food supplies in (of the non perishable sort). Would it?
Or is it being ott.

I bet the shops love people like me Hmm

Water stuff - I'm a great swimmer, no problems, even in cold temps
Running - hypermobile joints. Hand me the handgun. Luckly I live on the coast between two islands. I think...

Same - if I was incredibly lucky I might manage about 50m before a hip dislocated, but I'd be buggered and unable to move for the rest of the apocalypse Grin

Well between being overweight these days (which I am working on!) and my dodgy knee and ankle I couldnt run far.

Swimming is even worse, I can swim but no stamina for long term swimming, my 11 yr old is better than me!

Just give me a weapon and I will bust some Zombie heads though Smile

I could cope with the pain, darkness, infected soil, radiation etc but what I couldn't cope with is the endless grief of losing so many loved ones in one go. If my children got killed I wouldn't want to survive so the way I have prepared is mentally. (basically accept the inevitable if it happens and live life as normal and in the present)

I also have barely enough money to eat day to day so stashing food away seems an impossible task.

FairytalesAreBullshit · 14/04/2017 07:18

I remember Y2K where people thought systems would fail, planes would fall out the sky, all sorts of stuff. So I recall stockpiling water, becoming self sufficient learning how to grow veg. Foraging would be another good skill to have, so you know what treats can be eaten in a forest or grassland, there's more than you would think.

Also we have 2 water butts to collect water for the plants, plus flushing the loo.

In the US it's a bit of a craze. We can't do it here, but getting guns and going on survival courses.

In all honesty if it was to happen, I remember my Dad saying during the Gulf War, that WW3, given nuclear weapons, it would be the end of the earth.

We have candles a plenty, fire starting stuff, the only thing I think may be OTT is collecting food, as it'll more than likely go to waste.

For me it's about my faith more than anything. That's something that's very individual. I wouldn't want to hold up hubby and the children, so would leave them to it, if they sought a better area to survive.

I think essentials are:

*Tent & blankets
*Plastic cover
*Wind up torch / radio
*Solar lights
*Multiple lighters / matches
*Maps of country area
*Route plan to get somewhere avoiding busy roads / main routes
*Compass
*Swiss arm knife / basic tools
*Bungee cord
*Spare fuel for car
*They say tampons can be used to filter water, as if it goes on long enough you'll run out.
*First Aid kit
*Books on foraging / surviving in wild
*Freeze dried food
*Multipurpose pans
*Water filtration kit
*Collection of wood
*How would you cope without meds, stockpile paracetamol & others

There's probably lots more but that's what comes to mine. I'm sure more research you do, you'll know essentials etc.

I do believe if it got that bad, we'd likely be wiped out anyway.

you missed weapon of that list

Grin angelofthenorthcircular

Theres a case for thinking it will be more of a whimper than a bang scenario - life just getting poorer and increasingly circumscribed and dull.

Teatimebear · 15/04/2017 20:29

Even the smallest nuclear bomb dropped on London would level my house. I'm just going to stock up on wine.

BeyondUser24601 · 15/04/2017 20:46

I've done my prepping bit for the week - we've put some fruit trees out the garden. That totally counts Grin

Lweji · 15/04/2017 20:58

Realistically, do you really think Russia would ever bomb London, at least with anything that would go much beyond 10 Downing Street?
Too many Russian oligarchs and Chelsea FC. Maybe North London or even West Ham.
Likely Manchester.

In any case, look out for too many rich Russians suddenly going on holiday.

LurkingHusband · 15/04/2017 21:30

Might make more sense to bomb the countryside. It would make food scare, prevent people from fleeing the cities, make it impossible to move around the county, and leave the cities intact for invasion and occupation.

nocoolnamesleft · 15/04/2017 22:33

I would probably prefer to die promptly. Though I guess I have enough useful skills that there'd be a fighting chance of a post apocalyptic community considering taking me in.
