It wouldn't hurt to get a few extra food supplies in (of the non perishable sort). Would it?
Or is it being ott.

I bet the shops love people like me Hmm

I was toying with the idea of doing some prepping and have a good stash of prosecco behind the sofa , but have decided that on the whole I would rather not survive if it means having to live with preppers.

Tenementfunster · 07/04/2017 20:10

The preppers shall inherit the (scorched) earth. Fair play to them too

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 07/04/2017 20:11

I have a plan, but not prepping yet! There are certain criteria for me to put my plan(s) into action, and depends on which End of Days scenario I think most likely. I would want to look after my dc and make sure they survive, that's the reason I need to survive.

SerialReJoiner · 07/04/2017 20:27

We are starting to out together 72 hour packs; something quick to grab in an emergency like flooding or police evacuation due to gas leaks etc. Basic supplies to keep us going for a few days.

After that's sorted, we'll focus on food storage. I'm not planning to survive an apocalypse, but having enough food to keep us going in case of redundancy or huge price increases would be nice.

Imaystillbedrunk

Bury it, or if you have a fireplace burn it at night to hide the smoke. Or sneak out at night to dispose of it somewhere

Google bug out bags

SerialReJoiner · 07/04/2017 20:31

Oh yes, I've heard of that term. I'll have a look.

M0nica · 07/04/2017 20:44

Would gas masks be useful?

Tobolsk · 07/04/2017 20:46

Gas masks are useful but be careful the police don't like you having them as you are immune to tear gas!

They are legal but frowned on

Bellebullerebelle · 07/04/2017 20:47

Fuck me i need a stiff drink! Imagining my kids being left to fend for themselves while I've died from radiation sickness (although they're smaller so maybe they'll die first!). Where's the whiskey?

barefoofdoctor · 07/04/2017 20:49

I shall take heed and stock up on bottles of Sainsbury's own Baileys while it's only £10 a litre. If the shit hits the fan i'll relax the 'only at Christmas' rule and die fat pissed and happy.

yolofish · 07/04/2017 20:58

we live within sight of a nuclear power station. therefore hoping the 4 of us and all pets are at home and it goes up quick!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 07/04/2017 21:15

Well the cat won't go hungry, he's got about 3 months worth of food stockpiled! It's good stuff so I suppose DH and I could share with him.

We also won't run out of toilet roll as I ordered a pack of 24 from Tesco, not realising we already had one.

wasonthelist · 07/04/2017 21:15

People mock, but the Preppers will have the last laugh, if there were to be trouble.

Good luck with that - there wouldn't be much to laugh about would there?

OP YABU prepping is daft.

I'm just on the red zone border. Don't think I'll bother asking my GP for extra burn dressings though. ("How many?!" "Er, enough to do me head to toe come a nuclear explosion? No? Ok, just the usual then...")

Er, for context, I have to keep a small supply of mepitel at home to dress any burns (unless I do something really dramatic) straight after cooling & then take myself along to the practice nurse the next day for wound check. My skin & immune system & ability to heal are all a bit faily. I don't have a pet dragon or anything super-exciting like that.

londonrach · 07/04/2017 21:16

Think im going to need more wine!! Lots of chocolate too.

Tenementfunster · 07/04/2017 21:22

Kicking self for not buying in zone 2. Even parts of zone would see me evaporate.
Somehow I don't think germolene is gonna cut it

Thinkingofausername1 · 07/04/2017 21:32

Is there something I've missed? Ww3??

BarbarianMum · 07/04/2017 21:32

In the event of nuclear war, the preppers will die of radiation poisoning just like everyone else. They'll just have a choice of dehydrated meals to enjoy whilst they wait.

Lweji · 07/04/2017 21:34

Exactly, Barbarian.

A gun and enough bullets for the whole family would be more useful.

Iris65 · 07/04/2017 21:52

Fascinating site. You can check out the effects of different types of bomb and different sizes on any place in the world. You can also check out the effects of air burst or surface explosions: nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/

lazytuesday · 07/04/2017 21:55

if ur gonna prep for anything prep for flooding!! I keep loads of massive bottles of water and candles and things in case of that. Tinned food etc.
Because many many people i know got hit by flooding around here and there houses had never been flooded before.

I think thats far more likely than WW3

Lweji · 07/04/2017 21:58

Flooding, earthquakes, zombies... that's worth prepping for, yes.

ZebraOwl · 07/04/2017 21:58

I've noticed that even in a nuclear blast South London's getting the shitty (nuclear wastey?) end of the stick on this one: FAR more of N London is getting evaporated. Feckers. You get the tube, you get obliterated, IS THERE NO JUSTICE?!

Wriggler79 · 07/04/2017 22:03

Better to die quickly, or to try to exist and die eventually anyway? Better to fight, or to give in?
Not sure what choices I'd make. Depends on who is around me and what was happening. Maybe good to have a peaceful end plan. Dark times.
