Just had war with my next door neighbour.

I posted a thread here last week about Neighbours dogs coming into my garden- shifting everywhere, harassing my two and digging up flower beds.

General consensus was to board up the hole in the fence between our own gardens- which I did do. I also posted a receipt from the garden last weekend from the plants I had brought that her dogs dug up just hours after I planted them with a note explaining that as they had damaged my garden, could she please drop the cash in to go and replace the plants.

Neighbour returned from holiday last night and nothing was said. Went out this morning with the DC and have come back to find the fence panel has been taken out- so a) they have entered my property without permission as it was nailed in from my side (yes I probably shouldn't leave the gate unlocked) and b) have damaged something else of mine. Dogs have been in the garden again as well as DD stood in a dog shit on the patio.

Anyway went and knocked on neighbours door and produced her with the receipt for the fence panel as well. She ranted and raved at me, spat in my face and slammed the door in my face.

She has now gone out and left her mutts dogs in the garden so no doubt we will get a visit again from them this afternoon.

Take a photo or video of them and then stick them in the pen. Their on your land and out of control. Owner has no 'rights' over their animal in that case.

Ring the council and ask to speak to the dog warden and tell them you've got two dogs in your garden which don't belong to you and children are scared.

I had dealings with the dog warden a couple of years ago and they were brilliant. Slightly less urgent situation than you're in right now and they still came out the very next day and tore the owners off a strip and told them their dogs have to be contained or confiscated.

Star the aforementioned gold star that I had forgotten in my pp

NeedABumChange · 07/04/2017 14:26

I think you are perfectly within your rights to contain dogs that are on your property. Dog wardens normally come out pretty quick for dogs that are an easy catch rather than just wandering the streets. She will get a fine, £70 a dog in my area and maybe another one if they aren't chipped.

DianaMitford · 07/04/2017 14:26

Yup, dog warden at the council. RSPCA won't do anything I wouldn't have thought.

A friend was looking after my dog once and he broke out of her garden and ended up with the dog warden more than once. I think I paid £25 to get him back. I bet she wouldn't let it happen again!

BonnyScotland · 07/04/2017 14:28

be strong and keep reporting this nuisance... x

SecretNetter · 07/04/2017 14:28

Can't believe the number of people suggesting that you open your gate and let them run off. They could well run off straight under the nearest bus...how bloody heartless can you get? In all of this, it's not the dogs fault.

aneres · 07/04/2017 14:29

Please don't open your gate, it's not the dogs fault they have a crappy owner.

Hissy · 07/04/2017 14:31

Absolutely contact the LL/Letting agent

EpoxyResin · 07/04/2017 14:32

If you called the dog warden and said "there are two strange dogs in my garden" they'd come straight round and get them?

user1483387154 · 07/04/2017 14:34

Good job with contacting 101. I hope they are helpful and supportive.
Yes I would put the dogs in the pen if possible and throw the shit back over the fence to their side.

TisMeTheLadFromTheBar · 07/04/2017 14:35

She took the panel out again because if she didn't her dogs would sh1t in her own garden and she would have to clean up after them.

Inertia · 07/04/2017 14:38

Hope you've rung the dog warden to remove the dogs that are on the loose.

Nojellyintrifle · 07/04/2017 14:38

Don't open your gate and let them run off, it's not the dogs fault. They could also cause an accident that injures humans too.

Finola1step · 07/04/2017 14:39

Blimey, some people really do have more front than Brighton (as my DGrandad would have said). Well done for reporting this nasty piece of work.

EffinElle · 07/04/2017 14:43

Where I live dog warden wouldn't do anything, they will only collect 'strays'.

emmyhNL · 07/04/2017 14:44

I'm glad you called the police. I'd definitely call the dog warden and Landlord next. The LL needs to be responsible for their property and the destruction their tenants are causing. I'd also be sending the bill to them!

EffinElle · 07/04/2017 14:45

Strays off the street

HeeHighls · 07/04/2017 14:48

Please don't let the dogs run wild as they could cause a vehicle to swerve and kill or injure someone.
Take photos of the dogs in your garden. not much point pushing them back and blocking the gap if PC coming round in an hour. Best leave the evidence for them to see.

The spitting will be taken as assault. I and four other properties lived through a year of abusive Hell from a neighbour whose house we had to pass to get to our houses. Only after he came out and gobbed over my windscreen as I drove past was action taken.
He was bound over to keep the peace. We all shouldn't have been such kind witnesses as every one of us said we didn't want him punished, just for it to stop.
Hope it stops for you, as the mental anguish after a hard day at work, turning into the lane and not knowing what he'd done that day was very stressful.

HappyFlappy · 07/04/2017 14:50

Our dog warden will come to collect a stray/out of control dog from a house.

I had to ring once about a lovely dog which I found wandering. I took him home in case he had an accident - he did have a collar and a contact number, but I phoned three times at different times of the day and there was no answer, so I called the dog warden who came and took him away.

I felt like murderer . . .

Lynnm63 · 07/04/2017 14:53

I'd take them and drop then miles away or just leave your gate open, shoo them out and call the police to say they're lose and you're worried for people's safety. It's not your responsibility to keep other people's dogs safe.

Itaintme · 07/04/2017 14:54

Stupid advice sayiing to take them and leave them miles away. It's not the dogs fault.

Lynnm63 · 07/04/2017 14:56

It wasn't advice however it's what I'd do. I'd report them as loose though.

Lynnm63 · 07/04/2017 14:57

My advice was to shoo them into the street then the dog Warden will pick them up, frankly the owners aren't great owners the dogs have a shit life anyway.

Pigface1 · 07/04/2017 14:57

Jesus Christ!!! Spitting??? Wtf????

HeeHighls · 07/04/2017 14:59

" I'd definitely call the dog warden and Landlord next."
Police are coming, I'd leave it to them.

I hope the OP will be getting new neighbours.

More bad dog news for LLs. This is why those of us with a totally silent, well behaved dog aren't allowed to rent.
My agent said last week after I've lived here for four years, "If I didn't know you had a dog I'd never guess, as there's no damage, I've never heard him and no doggy odour."
