to wonder why the fuss about Easter and the national trust?

Theresa May has been quoted as being "furious" about the national trust removing easter from their egg hunts. Because she's the daughter of a vicar and a NT member Hmm

Now I had a look at the national trust poster and it clearly says Easter in big letters. They've just called the activities "egg hunts" but it's very clear it's happening at Easter.

AIBU to think she's massively over reacting over a non issue and might well be reminded that Easter was originally a pagan festival

well that's just not true is it delete it's been clearly removed from some of their publicity. I don't think it is ridiculous to be upset about this, so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Applebite · 04/04/2017 12:08

has anyone else got an advert for this exact event in their sidebar? I had to laugh at that...

ShatnersWig · 04/04/2017 12:09

Notice people saying "the website says Easter" - how many looked at it before the "news" broke? Because Twitter shows a photo of the website clearly stating "Cadbury Egg Hunt" and this morning this has been updated to read "Cadbury Egg Hunt this Easter".

Suggests to me NT taking this "supposed backlash" a bit more seriously than we are!

NoLotteryWinYet · 04/04/2017 12:14

oh it was a deliberate decision by Cadbury's:
Cadbury, which sponsors the event, said that it wanted to appeal to non-Christians, saying: "We invite people from all faiths and none to enjoy our seasonal treats."

Can you imagine Hindus saying they wanted to rebrand Diwali into the 'Yankee Candle Show' to attract more non-hindus?

If Teresa May is that concerned about Christian values, she might want to take a harder look at the impact of what her government is currently doing taking benefit support off bereaved families from 6th April....Angry

Peregrina · 04/04/2017 12:18

But interesting that when Blair backs the church, it passed without much notice. But when May does it it's bad.

Blair wasn't a vicar's son. Brown was a 'son of the manse' but he didn't parade his religion or religiosity in the way that May does. Meanwhile May is busy courting the Saudis and has presided over benefit cuts to the sick and disabled, and has even taken money from the bereaved. This does not seem like Christian Charity to me.

squoosh · 04/04/2017 12:19

But NT don’t manage Easter for the nation. They’re just one organisation. Getting upset over a Cadbury’s sponsored NT egg hunt makes as much sense as getting upset over a McVitie’s (or any other big brand) sponsored RSPCA Christmas event.

People are bonkers.

scottishdiem · 04/04/2017 12:21

And yet on twitter we can see tweets sent in March from Cadbury and National Trust referring to the Easter Egg Hunt as well as promotional graphics. One line on the site didnt have it and no reference to the dozen plus that were there already and suddenly the secularists have won and Easter has been cancelled. None are so thin skinned as Christians in this country really.

Lumpylumperson · 04/04/2017 12:23

Could any christians on this thread please explain to me what is the reason for having chocolate eggs on zombie jesus day? Are we meant to throw the chocolate eggs at zombie jesus akin to silver bullets on werewolves or do we eat them because chocolate to zombie jesus is like garlic to a vampire, every vicar I ask wont answer grin

Well I'm not surprised you won't get answered if you ask in such an arrogant, ignorant, offensive and sneery way. Hmm

FWIW it doesn't take much brain power to link eggs and new life together.

For future defence, a teeny bit of reverence doesn't go amiss. I'm not a Muslim but I'd never talk about their faith in the dismissive, mocking way that you speak about Christianity.

How very narrow-minded and bigoted of you.

Hoppinggreen · 04/04/2017 12:23

Easter is based on a pagan rebirth and fertility celebration anyway.
It's been hijacked by Christians

Peregrina · 04/04/2017 12:23

Crosspost with Liverpoolone.

A helpful piece of scripture for Mrs May:
Matthew 7:15-20New King James Version (NKJV)

15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

Mrs May's 'fruits' are taking from the sick, disabled and bereaved, whilst condoning tax cuts for the wealthy.
Will v 19 come true for May?

squoosh · 04/04/2017 12:23

A certain section of white UK Christians love nothing more than pretending they're being victimised. It's almost a hobby.

Believeitornot · 04/04/2017 12:25

Notice people saying "the website says Easter" - how many looked at it before the "news" broke?

It said Easter on the posters I had seen - which was before the news broke hence my Hmm

Cadbury must be delighted with Theresa May for all the free publicity.

DJBaggySmalls · 04/04/2017 12:33

If TM wants to claim Christian values maybe she should call off the Saudi arms deal before worrying about chocolate.
Or stop making people so poor they die.

CaoNiMartacus · 04/04/2017 12:34

Well they could hardly call it "Shitty-palm-oil-excuse-for-chocolate Egg Hunt", could they? Which would be the honest option.

NoLotteryWinYet · 04/04/2017 12:36

or 'hunt for chocolate that's nowhere near as good as it used to be'

Owllady · 04/04/2017 12:36

I'm ready confused as I can see EASTER in big letters
Is EASTER the emporer' s New clothes?
Is EASTER wrote in a special ink and font that only heathens can see? Confused

DeleteOrDecay · 04/04/2017 12:38

Changed website see

If that were accurate (because let's face it anyone can edit a screenshot and post it on Twitter) I still don't see what the big deal is.Confused

Owllady · 04/04/2017 12:39

Can the word EASTER only be seen by non NT members? :( NT are rubbing it in aren't they?
Showing us EASTER but not letting us EGG HUNT.
Is egg hunt a euphemism and those that can't see the Easter are actually cunts?

Epipgab · 04/04/2017 12:41

Could any christians on this thread please explain to me what is the reason for having chocolate eggs on zombie jesus day?

Why should they answer a question put like that? Confused Lumpy is right. I'm sure most Christians are happy to give their perspective, but they're not obliged to respond to goading.

Footle · 04/04/2017 12:42

I wish I had our PM's worries.

Owllady · 04/04/2017 12:46

I keep thinking of my old man's a distant

My old man's a Vicar, he wears a vicars robe
He took us to the national trust, he didn't walk, he drove
The Christians passed the eggs, the Muslims passed them back
No one could say Easter, it may as well be crack

And IF you wonder why I've mentioned Muslims, it's because this all started a few days ago under the guise of Halal chocolate hatred

Owllady · 04/04/2017 12:47

Dustman not distant.
