Found my dream dress today...it's over my budget by £800 but I'm not sure if my budget was U to start with as I seemed underestimate how much they cost!
How much was your dress?

OP posts:
AYankinSpanx · 01/04/2017 16:21

£2000, but had it made in Spain. My tiara was about £100 and shoes the same I think.

WhooooAmI24601 · 01/04/2017 16:21

Mine was a Sassi Holford Hailey so about £2,300 I think with alterations. It was the first and only dress I tried on and I just fell in love with it.

We went to Browns in Dublin while on my hen weekend and I tried on a Vera Wang. I was so, so tempted but it wouldn't have been better than my chosen dress and was 4 times the price. Instead I bought fancy shoes to go with the dress!

marshhmallowsandcream · 01/04/2017 16:22

£650 plus £100 alterations, last year

Curlyshabtree · 01/04/2017 16:24

£180 12 years ago. Not white or long

Littledrummergirl · 01/04/2017 16:25

£135. It's gorgeous.

Beelzebop · 01/04/2017 16:26

£230 and it was beautiful. I would say that of course. I personally could never justify spending more I feel it's not necessary.

pigsDOfly · 01/04/2017 16:26

Roses2 Can I ask you what website you used? My DD is getting married soon and she's fallen in love with a dress from one of these sites but we're not sure if they're okay.

The dresses look gorgeous but the prices are so low we're worried we're going to get something awful for our money.

Clearly you've had a good experience, so perhaps we're being silly not to go with the one she wants.

Sorry to hijack your thread OP.

£800 plus about £200 on alterations- veil was £50 handmade by a milliner so a one off, shoes & bolero from the Debenhams sale plus converse I already had
I saw some amazing 2k plus dresses but with hindsight glad I spent less

Xmasbaby11 · 01/04/2017 16:30

About 1200. It was lovely but I'm not sure it was worth that much.

I'm quite rotund though so very hard to get clothes to fit nicely, so I was happy i found a dress I loved.

Booksandmags79 · 01/04/2017 16:39

About £1800. Should have been more than double that but got it at outlet. Alterations were a couple of hundred elsewhere.
If you can genuinely afford it, don't mind spending the money and love it then go for it.
There is always an argument to spend less and yes I'm sure you can do other things with the money. But I personally don't regret following my heart and going with the dress I did. I felt wonderful in it, it suited me perfectly and I love it as much now. You may only actually wear it for one day, but you 'wear it' forever in the photos so don't go for any dress you're not 100% sure of.
Hope you have a wonderful day!

£750 including extensive alterations (found out I was pregnant after I'd chosen the dress!). It was originally £2,000 but it was in a sale. Petticoat (hid bump safely underneath) was £100.

AYankinSpanx · 01/04/2017 16:43

I want to see pics of all of these lovely dresses! Grin

n0ne · 01/04/2017 16:43

£500 from Etsy, made from scratch. But it was very simple, no embellishment or fancy materials. I'm not into that.

Dumbo412 · 01/04/2017 16:45

£990 plus £250 for alterations.
I had my heart set on one which was £2500, but it didn't suit me.

My wedding dress made my awful figure look almost nice!

Lollyb86 · 01/04/2017 16:46

Errr... £12.99 brand new on eBay from Hong Kong.. .5 years ago

SailAwaySailAwaySailAway · 01/04/2017 16:47

£40 in 1991. Laura Ashley sale and the first and only dress I tried on.

Stiddleficks · 01/04/2017 16:49

£630, I went to a shop that doesn't have any dresses over a thousand pounds so I didn't fall in love with anything over budget.

Shadowboy · 01/04/2017 16:49

£500 as it was a sample. Plus £120 of alterations.

MrsDc7 · 01/04/2017 16:50

Mine was £1700 but I got it on sale for £400 because it was last seasons stock (who cares). It was really beautiful as well

Shutupanddance1 · 01/04/2017 16:50

€500 from a boutique that makes dress in the U.K. (Including alterations) and I bought a snazzy belt to put on for €100.

Ordered online, it is a fabulous dress and I'd highly recommend them - Kitty and Dulcie, look em up!

Got married less than 2 years ago

MrsDc7 · 01/04/2017 16:51

I did have to pay about £150 alterations though

OhCarrieMathison · 01/04/2017 16:57

£980 then about £300 in alterations.
My husband kilt cost more to be made but he wears his to every wedding (slightly boring) and mine has sat in a bag in the attic for nearly 10 years !

Janey50 · 01/04/2017 16:58

£80. But that was in 1983. Which according to a money comparison website would be the equivalent of £188.74 today. So still a bargain!

BeachyKeen · 01/04/2017 17:02

It was free. We got married in '98, but the dress was brandom new never worn from 1973.
A woman's daughter was supposed to get married, didn't, so the woman kept the dress. The daughter did get married later (new man, new dress) so the original stayed in an attic.
She decided to sell it at a church basement sale, I tried it on and it fit perfectly, so she gave it to me as a gift.
My MIL made the blusher and the flowers

£750 from a dressmaker friend-of-a-friend. Alterations included; veil, shoes and underwear another £150. Well worth it for the uniqueness and being made-to-measure.
