Found my dream dress today...it's over my budget by £800 but I'm not sure if my budget was U to start with as I seemed underestimate how much they cost!
How much was your dress?

£350, bought last year off the rail so cheaper than it would have been normally. Although I did end up buying 2 dresses as I ended up pregnant 3 months before the big day and had too big a bump for my first, tight fitting dress Blush

Sourpuss123 · 01/04/2017 15:33

£1400 last year. Love it though

RiversrunWoodville · 01/04/2017 15:34

125 in Debenhams in 2010

Mine was £499 and then I got about £40 of Monsoon vouchers back in my card.

But the thing about wedding dresses is, it's up to your budget and how much you think spending on one important dress is reasonable. I'm on the "it's only one bloody day" side of it and would cheerfully have spent much less, only I really loved mine and was less keen on the cheaper ones. Because mine is heavily beaded which was kind of what I'd wanted from the start. It didn't help that I wasn't a fan of the heavy meringues when I tried them on.

But if you love it, and you can afford it, and you think it's a reasonable amount of money to spend on one dress for one day, have at it and enjoy it. Those are all purely personal.

£18 from Lindy Bop sale in Dec ish for last week.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 01/04/2017 15:40

Just over £1k ten years ago for the first one, and then £200 plus about £100 alterations for the second one. The second one goes in the washing machine! I flogged the first. It was stunning. It didn't matter much second time around; a lot more fun was had and a better husband.

£1200 8 years ago

Getting married in June. My dress is vintage couture 60s gown. It set me back £450, but apparently would have been wildly expensive back in it's day.

PolarBearGoingSomewhere · 01/04/2017 15:47

Mine was £230 including alterations, I didn't really have a budget but the very expensive dresses I tried on looked silly!

Apairofsparklingeyes · 01/04/2017 15:47

£400 in 1986

£80 in 2008. I preferred the cheaper one because it was far more comfortable to wear on the day!

Brollsdolls · 01/04/2017 15:49

£200 10 years ago.

ILikTheBred · 01/04/2017 15:49

€6k in 2008. I absolutely adored it. No regrets.

£450 cost price 29 years ago. My friend had a bridal shop and let me have it at cost price

Reading this thread has made me realise it was a lot of money way back then, didn't give it a thought at the time

cashmerecardigans · 01/04/2017 15:53

£2500 of Vivienne Westwood fabulousness. I felt truly amazing.

hazeyjane · 01/04/2017 15:56

To be fair, NotYoda, it was a find a couple of witnesses in the car park - an impossibly gorgeous American couple who were better dressed than dh in his Nirvana tshirt and I in my jumble sale dress - then eat brownies and drink a bottle of champagne by the river, wedding. Our evening reception, was dh and I in Pizza Hut!!

Blerugh · 01/04/2017 15:59

£1750 with 10% discount as it was was a "designer day." Properly peed my pants coming to terms with paying that as I had budgeted £1500 max and still thought it was crazy. Absolutely no regrets and you can always sell it after!

MissAdaSmith · 01/04/2017 16:04

nothing. I just wore a dress (not bridal style) I already had. but my entire wedding was cheap. I wouldn't have been able to spend £££ on a dress and find it beyond pointless to spend huge amounts of money on a dress which will be worn only half a day. But I am super pragmatic Grin

DramaAlpaca · 01/04/2017 16:07

£450 in 1990. It was the first one I tried on.

LittleGreyCatwithapinkcollar · 01/04/2017 16:09

£395 from a factory outlet pace in Hinckley 5 years ago. Fit perfectly though I did have to put back on the 10lb I lost after I bought it as I didn't want to pay for alterations. Luckily I got married in the spring so I just maintained my Christmas weight!

harrietm87 · 01/04/2017 16:10

£500 + £125 alterations, last year. It was in a sample sale in a posh bridal shop, reduced from £2k because it was massive and half the buttons were missing. Some (fairly straightforward) alterations later and it was perfect!

MrsMarmite1234 · 01/04/2017 16:11

£750 plus about £80 in alterations. It was quite plain with not a lot of embellishment etc though. I budgeted £1200-12500.

MrsMarmite1234 · 01/04/2017 16:11

Should be budgeted £1200-1500

Eclecticmama · 01/04/2017 16:14

£70 in a charity shop... Then spent about £400 having it altered, including changing the skirt. 😀

PageNowFoundFileUnderSpartacus · 01/04/2017 16:18

£175 + c.£50 for alterations about 15 years ago.

nokidshere · 01/04/2017 16:18

£120 from John Lewis back in 1987
