Or at least tell me if it's just me that when I look at the baby names boards and I'd say a good number of names I've never heard of and TBH I find some strange and wonder if it's a wind up? So I'm wondering if it's just me perhaps in my own little boring bubble?

LionKing no that's not the point of my thread and I don't see how reading it you could get that idea, if anything I was thinking it may be taken the opposite way with the examples shown. The point of the thread was to find out essentially names of general children and adults that posters know, as when I look at baby names I rarely see names that I'm used to seeing I'm real life and wondering if I'm just just in my own bubble or not. I also said I'm not making judgements on the names as no doubt there will be people with those names or have used those names and it's personal preference

Well, I don't know that many children, cos mine's only a baby, but my peers growing up were called things like:
Amy
Rachel
Sarah
Sophie
Lucy
Claire
Laura
Alice
Louise
Matthew
James
Andrew
Robert
Stephen
Daniel
David
Philip
Christopher
Thomas
(Now, of course, they're all Matt, Andy, Chris, Dave, Phil, Steve, Tom ...)

Dixiestamp · 31/03/2017 02:22

I missed out multitudinous Evies, Maisies and Ellas as well! Lucas and George crop up often too.

Atenco · 31/03/2017 03:21

I live in the Southern USA and out of the 140 children in my DC's year at school there are no names as odd as the ones daily suggested on the Baby Names board

There you go, I always think the names suggested on the baby names board are incredibly boring.

Really Atenco? Personally I haven't quite got over the poster who wanted to call her child Huckleberry.

nooka · 31/03/2017 04:26

I can't really see the point in asking about adults names as children (at least in the UK) aren't generally called after their parents or given names from their parents generations. I work with a Michelle for example, I can't see that being a popular choice for another 20 years at least. Plus 30-50 years ago names were rather more homogeneous than they are now (for a variety of reasons).

SuperBeagle · 31/03/2017 04:51

Ava is the most popular name among babies I know, with Evie and Indie coming up close behind.

For boys it's a more even mix. I know a couple of Noahs, I know a couple of Olivers, I know a couple of Finleys and Finns.

SuperBeagle · 31/03/2017 04:53

And the most popular names where I was growing up (rural NSW, Australia) were Madeleine and Amelia for girls (out of my grade of 70 people, we had 5 Maddies), and Joshua, Matthew and Benjamin for boys.

mathanxiety · 31/03/2017 05:04

You're thinking Judas Maccabeus, High (AKA Judah Maccabee). Led the Jewish revolt against the Seleucid Empire.

Broccolirevolution · 31/03/2017 05:12

WomanScorned Jude Thaddeus is the Saint of difficult/impossible situations. I must live in a Christian area because I know two and they were both born in difficult circumstances, hence the name.

kiwimumof2boys · 31/03/2017 05:43

Basically all the kids that live around here, and DS's Friends that I can think of at the moment . . . I have 3 boys hence why I know more boys names. (My DS's names are all in list).
Folk around tend to favour more traditional names with no crazy spellings. Makes it easy when it comes to writing birthday cards! I, on the other hand seem to have about 15 friends called Nicola, Nic, Nikki, Nicole etc. Also several Sarah, Natalie, Rebecca, Emma. Showing my age haha.

TwatteryFlowers · 31/03/2017 09:19

My dc's friends all seem to be called Evie, Milly, Thomas, Elise, Jacob, Jack, Lewis, Sonny, Isaac, Grace and Gracie.

The only time I've heard the names mentioned on here in real life was when I had given birth to dd. In the postnatal ward the family in the bed next to me had a baby dd they'd called Ottily and an older dd called Isanthe (-sp?).

Rainydayspending · 31/03/2017 09:26

My DD is friends with:
Faith
Charlotte
Niamh
Kal'el
Evie
Logan
Manvir
Honey
Anthony
Samuel

My friends:

Any use?

DefinitelyOdd · 31/03/2017 09:29

The most unusual one is Tiana Kandi. And moat responses to that name were negative.
