To think I'm not a 'greedy pig' for eating this?

Been running about all day at work. I had an apple for breakfast and a small sandwich for lunch (at about 12!). Just got in and made myself a couple of toasties- two slices of milk roll and a small amount of cheese so in total I had four slices of milk roll and maybe a handful of grated cheese.

I'd just sat down to eat when my neighbour popped in to drop of a package for me. She saw what I was eating and said 'Oh I'd feel like a greedy pig if I ate that much.' The way she said it made it clear she wasn't talking about herself but was judging me.

I've had my issues with food in the past and now I'm wondering- am I a greedy pig? I've had a long, stressful day and I just wanted something quick to eat before I keeled over!

Am I being unreasonable what what I've had for tea or is she just a goady fucker?!

I'm in the uk and never heard of it. Lived in London, Manchester and South Wales.

AliceByTheMoon · 01/04/2017 08:32

I'm in the UK too but had to google- I've only lived in London and South East though.

JustDanceAddict · 01/04/2017 08:38

I've heard it it and seen it and mainly lived in south east.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/04/2017 08:41

YANVU for making me want to eat that right now! I love milk roll.

That is not greedy. And even if it were she's a rude woman for saying that. Ignore her!

hazelnutlatte · 01/04/2017 08:45

Hearts milk roll isn't much like wonder bread - they are both soft white bread but milk roll is thin round slices of bread and doesn't taste disgusting, whereas wonder bread shouldn't even be described as food!

Thinkingblonde · 01/04/2017 08:50

It's just white bread with milk added to the ingredients. Round in shape and the slices are smaller than a normal sized loaf.

Meeep · 01/04/2017 08:55

It's very soft too, milk roll.

I don't think you've eaten enough today! Really!

AnneTwacky · 01/04/2017 09:27

I take absolutely no notice of people who say "I couldn't possibly eat that much", ever since I had conversation with someone years ago, who couldn't possibly eat a whole cornetto, as they were too rich.

Don't get me wrong, if someone can't eat much, I'm not criticising them. It's they people who say things like this, specifically to make others feel bad for eating, I have a problem with.

specialsubject · 01/04/2017 09:40

The answer should have been ' I would feel a total dick if I made a remark like that'.

Ignore. The woman is a waste of good oxygen.

OliviaStabler · 01/04/2017 09:42

Oh god I hate women like this. I always seem to encounter women of a certain age who are determined to tell me how little they eat and how they could never eat whatever I'm having.

As well as telling you they only eat like a small bird...

VeryButchyRestingFace · 01/04/2017 09:42

Nothing sensible to add but am fascinated by the term "milk roll". I've never heard this before.

Google reveals something rather mundane though. 🙁

nigelforgotthepassword · 01/04/2017 12:29

I've never heard of milk roll! Im going to go and get some now to try.

lollypopcorn · 01/04/2017 12:50

If she ever pulls this shit again, she's a prime candidate for "did you mean to be so rude?"

It's really rude to say that to anyone though.

YourHandInMyHand · 01/04/2017 13:21

Milk roll is tiny slices! I give the toddlers I look after 2 slices, and I would have 4. Pretty standard for an adult as they're very small and thin slices of bread. I buy Warburtons milk roll every week. Smile

It's about 400-500 Calories which while a lot for a snack it's fine if you stay within you Calorie goal for the day.

If you didn't realize it would be that many Calories sign up to myfitnesspal and log what you eat for a few days. You should be getting around 1800 to not put on weight so while a 500 snack is a huge amount it's the total for the day that matters.

Gabilan · 01/04/2017 13:48

There's no fixed amount. It will depend on someone's activity levels, their size, age, amount of muscle they carry and so on. You can't just assume that 1800 calories is fine for everyone.

user1491049702 · 01/04/2017 13:53

Average women is about 1800, true I would suggest she get a Fitbit or the likes with a HR monitor to get her BMR, But unless she works out five days a week it won't be much more then 1800 Calories maybe much less if she a stay at home mom or office worker.

BaronessBomburst · 01/04/2017 13:59

I'd never heard of milk roll either. I'm from the south. I guessed what it is though because it's common in Holland; just didn't know it existed back home too!

Gabilan · 01/04/2017 13:59

The OP isn't bothered about her weight though - her neighbour thought she was greedy. It's a rude comment to make and I do wish people didn't feel like they can police others food habits. I'm not sure why you're now offering advice on the OP's calorie intake User when this thread started because her neighbour did precisely that - commented on the amount she ate, unsolicited.

user1491049702 · 01/04/2017 14:02

@Gabilan

Because therw is huge health crisis and she was making out her "snack" was nothing big maybe she didn't realise how huge the calorie intake it was. It's important we all look after ourselves so we don't over burden the NHS.

StealthPolarBear · 01/04/2017 14:15

It was her dinner! Read the thread maybe.

user1491049702 · 01/04/2017 14:19

It was tea it says so in the OP, Ie a after dinner snack, I am saying she can eat a 1000cal snack if she wants, she just needs to monitor her total daily calories.

She could eat a 1800cal pizza for breakfast if she wanted and as long as she didn't eat till the next day it would be alright as long as she din't make a habit of it.
