The only thing I liked on nm was that you could actually ask a qualified health visitor if posted in the drop in bit of the forum.
So was good if you had a query about your child that wasn't urgent.
But that has gone now so don't go on there anymore.
I think it's just what you like tbh,Some people prefer this site some the other and some use both.
Really don't see the problem with it, we are all adults at the end of the day don't get why people got to bash one over the other its a bit pathetic and childish really.

EpoxyResin · 31/03/2017 15:42

I've always really liked NM for pregnancy and baby stuff. I'm not even sorry.

But then again they're two very different beast really aren't they; MN is much more a frank discussion site for everyone on all topics with sections for pregnancy etc., whereas NM is more a support site for all things babies/parenting with little subsections for other topics.

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 31/03/2017 15:42

If MN is for the highly educated MC .I'm not quite sure what I'm doing here.

Hoppinggreen · 31/03/2017 15:56

I was very briefly a parent supporter on Netmums
Couldn't hack not being able to tell people they were idiots - or couldn't find a "supportive" way to tell them they were idiots actually!!

x2boys · 31/03/2017 15:58

Yes but the last thread like this there were some nasty bastards who deliberately went onto netmums so they could giggle smugly back on mumsnet about how much better they were than them it showed no one in a good light tbh and rightly got deleted eventually, seriously its just another forum yeah its a bit boring but if you dont like it dont go on it.

silkpyjamasallday · 31/03/2017 16:52

Well @riversleep I am 22 and use MN not NM, but you have highlighted the one positive of NM - I think they are less judgemental about younger mums, but those young mums would probably get better advice here as long as they don't post their age because god forbid someone would chose to have a baby under 30 and they are put off coming to MN because of that. Not all young mothers are uneducated 'chavs' living off benefits. It would have been useful to me for getting other young mums experiences and advice but the site hurts my eyes, and I do prefer a nicely laid out and grammatically correct post. I don't really understand how with autocorrect and predictive texting you can write so appallingly but meh.

Also as the internet allows for relative anonymity so why you'd want everyone to know the exact ages of your children and your real name I don't know, especially when posting about stuff you can't talk to anyone about in real life. I don't have social media because I want to retain a modicum of privacy.

Also a lot of the fucking stupid 'am I pregnant?' 'is there a line?!' And 'what sex is my baby from this blurry scan picture' are posted just as much here too, and people do engage with it.

I do think it mostly comes down to a class divide, but it's interesting that the generally middle class MNers are so disparaging of working class NMs and not the other way around. If you don't like it, don't read it, you have to make an active choice to visit the page and trawl through just to poke fun at them.

organixeveryday · 31/03/2017 17:36

@silkpyjamasallday I'm with you on that one , same age , doesn't need to be a prerequisite for a shitty mother who doesn't know when to shut her legs. But then everyone here has a pair of judgy pants in their wardrobe !

Riversleep · 31/03/2017 17:49

I meant the textspeak and 'hun' business when I mentioned the age but can see where it could be seen to refer to young mothers so apologies Blush

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 31/03/2017 18:22

I think they are less judgemental about younger mums

As long as they intend to live on benefits and have more babies (there is nothing wrong with that IMO, by the way).

My experience is proof that they hate young mums wanting to continue education. They were so unsupportive - MN was where I found actual support.

x2boys · 31/03/2017 18:43

i,m a member of both Ovaries and have seen a lot more bitching on netmums about people living on benefits then on here but anyway ,i just cant understand why slag off another forum different strokes for different folks .

JustDanceAddict · 31/03/2017 18:57

I used to frequent NM 10+ years ago and did meet - through local meet-up board - one of my now-closest friends so I can't slag it off too much!! Used local boards for recommendations too but didn't post on forums really. Hate all that 'hun' rubbish!

Mummyoflittledragon · 31/03/2017 20:33

Mumsnet -please help, my DH is shagging The au pair
Netmums - please help, Hubby is in prison*

God forbid you call your husband "hubby" on mumsnet, some posters would see this as a bannable offende grin]

Liked the patio your husband post too, very very drole.

Mummyoflittledragon · 31/03/2017 20:33

Oops bannable offence Grin

BabychamSocialist · 31/03/2017 20:45

I've always felt like MN is people who don't want to be defined by being mothers, whereas NM is people who absolutely want to be known as just a "mum".

I only say this because when I used to have a look on there, people putting their kids into daycare so they could go to college or go back to work was looked on very dimly. Maybe it's changed since then, I don't know.

NM local is very good though, apparently.

Oh also, you can't say cunt over there, so that's it ruined for me!

BabychamSocialist · 31/03/2017 20:51

I do like MN more though because I prefer the plain layout - it doesn't hurt my eyes to read. On NM it was all profile pictures and sparkly banners, which is painful when scrolling. I mean, fine if you like that stuff, but I prefer something plain. It's why I preferred Facebook to Myspace.

haveacupoftea · 31/03/2017 21:05

NM is full of idiots making stuff up. Eg:

'my period is late and my GP did a test but it was negative.. could i still be pregnant?'

Mumsnet: you are almost certainly not pregnant. Wait for your next period to come.

Netmums: OMG that happened to my husband's sister's cousin and she didnt get her BFP for 6 months after BDing you could totally be preggo hun your GP is an idiot good luck xx

ThymeLord · 31/03/2017 21:12

Honestly, I don't think they are that different anymore. It's very 'hun' here these days. The differences that made MN far better have all but gone, in my opinion.

TitaniasCloset · 31/03/2017 21:20

Oh shite. I'm working class, little ejumacation as granny used to call it and poor as fuck.

Apart from the swearing I think I'm on the wrong fucking board!

But I like the feminism chat, that's why joined, bit scared to post on there sometimes though. They are all a bit brainy and I is not. Learned a lot though.

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 31/03/2017 21:24

I remember when some of us invaded headed over during Jeffreygate. Those mods were quick off the mark editing posts where someone had got round the swear filter.

We were allowed to stay once we promised to leave as soon as MN came back up.

BabychamSocialist · 31/03/2017 21:27

I've always said that the UN should look at the MN/NM situation to solve the conflict in Israel and Palestine. We're managing to live in peaceful coexistence... well, just about.

Majorgoodwinschickenbeatstrump · 31/03/2017 22:14

It's full of thickos. Sorry to be blunt and rude but there you go.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 31/03/2017 22:18

MN is the Waitrose to NM's Asda SmartPrice.

CakesAreBiscuitsToo · 31/03/2017 22:59

Hmmm. These "slag off Nethuns" threads used to get deleted for not being "in the spirit" are we now allowed the slagfest?

Sparklingbrook · 31/03/2017 23:02

I was wondering that Cakes.

ProjectGainsborough · 31/03/2017 23:18

What was Jeffreygate??
