To think that the word 'tits' (as in 'breasts') is a little too vulgar ?

I'm quite prepared to be told I'm being prudish or precious on this subject. For years I've been uncomfortable using the word and so I don't. Fair enough. But plenty of people I know say tits without reservation in ordinary conversation, regardless of company and it just grates with me. I'd be surprised if many people outside the medical or lingerie businesses, for example, routinely say breasts. And there's a few less offensive breast pseudonyms such as boobs and bosoms which I'm happier with. Similarly, when people refer to a penis as a cock - I really can't stand that. Of the alternatives, I've yet to make up my mind which is the least worst between willy and knob.

What do you think ? Am I over-thinking this ? BTW, I am male, mid-forties.

I think if the words tits and cock offends you, the AIBU thread is a brave choice.

In my head, I am reading the OP in an Alan Bennett voice.

It's difficult to put my finger on what I don't like about these words. That's one reason I'm asking the question on this site.

I don't personally find it offensive as a term, but I agree that it's more vulgar than "boobs". In my mind, the hierarchy of vulgarity, from least to most, goes:

Breasts
Bosoms
Bust
Bazookas
Boobs
Jugs
Tits
Titties (ugh)

I don't like "tits" either. I think the sound of the word is harsh and almost sour? I use "breasts" in all regular conversation; I might use "boobs" in a deliberately childish conversation.

I'm no prude. "Cock" is my go to for "penis" (unless a more formal description is necessary). And "pussy" for "vulva/vagina".

In our house we say "breasticles" and "cock-a-doodle-doo"

We are really weird. But at least we're not saying "tits" and "cock"

I would never use either so I'm with you OP! There is no need.

I keep saying "bellend" in polite conversation (to refer to an idiot rather than part of a penis). I think I've subconsciously forgotten how rude it is.
