To think that the word 'tits' (as in 'breasts') is a little too vulgar ?

I'm quite prepared to be told I'm being prudish or precious on this subject. For years I've been uncomfortable using the word and so I don't. Fair enough. But plenty of people I know say tits without reservation in ordinary conversation, regardless of company and it just grates with me. I'd be surprised if many people outside the medical or lingerie businesses, for example, routinely say breasts. And there's a few less offensive breast pseudonyms such as boobs and bosoms which I'm happier with. Similarly, when people refer to a penis as a cock - I really can't stand that. Of the alternatives, I've yet to make up my mind which is the least worst between willy and knob.

What do you think ? Am I over-thinking this ? BTW, I am male, mid-forties.

What exactly do you have to be offended about?

OhhBetty · 30/03/2017 13:24

Meh, it's just a word. Just sounds strung together!

Justmuddlingalong · 30/03/2017 13:24

I think if the words tits and cock offends you, the AIBU thread is a brave choice.

Dearlittleflo · 30/03/2017 13:27

In my head, I am reading the OP in an Alan Bennett voice.

tanfield90 · 30/03/2017 13:28

It's difficult to put my finger on what I don't like about these words. That's one reason I'm asking the question on this site.

In my head I'm thinking what a tit

CaoNiMartacus · 30/03/2017 13:28

I don't personally find it offensive as a term, but I agree that it's more vulgar than "boobs". In my mind, the hierarchy of vulgarity, from least to most, goes:

Breasts
Bosoms
Bust
Bazookas
Boobs
Jugs
Tits
Titties (ugh)

I made myself laugh writing all those down!

Gets me right norked, it does.

MaidOfStars · 30/03/2017 13:31

I don't like "tits" either. I think the sound of the word is harsh and almost sour? I use "breasts" in all regular conversation; I might use "boobs" in a deliberately childish conversation.

I'm no prude. "Cock" is my go to for "penis" (unless a more formal description is necessary). And "pussy" for "vulva/vagina".

Sodomeyes · 30/03/2017 13:32

In our house we say "breasticles" and "cock-a-doodle-doo"

DH's bollocks are the "lefticle" and the "right-on hairy one"

We are really weird. But at least we're not saying "tits" and "cock"

NightWanderer · 30/03/2017 13:33

There's a bar near my work called Titty Twister. I wince every time I see it.

SeldomNeeded · 30/03/2017 13:33

Grin at the hierarchy of vulgarity. Where does "fun bags" fit in?

Amar1na · 30/03/2017 13:34

I would never use either so I'm with you OP! There is no need.

Dearlittleflo · 30/03/2017 13:35

I keep saying "bellend" in polite conversation (to refer to an idiot rather than part of a penis). I think I've subconsciously forgotten how rude it is.

Doyouwantabrew · 30/03/2017 13:36

sodom Grin he names his bollocks?

Tits reminds me of the 70s, haven't heard it for ages.

Neverknowing · 30/03/2017 13:37

The word makes me cringe too for some reason, idk why though. I don't think it's more vulgar I just don't like it! I do, however, quite like it when someone calls someone else a tit Grin

Doyouwantabrew · 30/03/2017 13:41

I called my 26 year old ds a tit head last night. Most gratifying

Sodomeyes · 30/03/2017 13:44

DoYouWant Oh yes.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 30/03/2017 13:47

I think my username suggests my feelings on using this word. Grin

PortiaCastis · 30/03/2017 13:48
Grin
ThePiglet59 · 30/03/2017 13:49

Boobies!

Scoose · 30/03/2017 13:52

What do you think of using the word baps? I quite like it myself

SodsLaw2017 · 30/03/2017 13:54

Tits and cock in this house!
Penis sounds too...clinical.

Sodomeyes · 30/03/2017 13:54

DH calls my boobs/breasts/tits my bangers. Every time I'm getting changed he goes "Wahey, whip ya bangers out". He's a 34 year old very senior professional Hmm
