To think that the word 'tits' (as in 'breasts') is a little too vulgar ?

I'm quite prepared to be told I'm being prudish or precious on this subject. For years I've been uncomfortable using the word and so I don't. Fair enough. But plenty of people I know say tits without reservation in ordinary conversation, regardless of company and it just grates with me. I'd be surprised if many people outside the medical or lingerie businesses, for example, routinely say breasts. And there's a few less offensive breast pseudonyms such as boobs and bosoms which I'm happier with. Similarly, when people refer to a penis as a cock - I really can't stand that. Of the alternatives, I've yet to make up my mind which is the least worst between willy and knob.

What do you think ? Am I over-thinking this ? BTW, I am male, mid-forties.

Some people would be suspicious that you just wanted the laydeeez to say naughty words for tits for your..amusement. Not me though.

pnutter · 30/03/2017 16:41

I use tit as an insult usually to the cat when he trips me up
Funbags is awful. I can imagine Keith Chegwin saying it and that makes me queasy for some teas.
My worstest is however, rack. As in "you have an awesome rack luv" urgh

pnutter · 30/03/2017 16:42

Not teas ! Reason * 😂

VladmirsPoutine · 30/03/2017 16:42

Are you sure you're not just after getting a load of women to talk openly about tits? Maybe it gets you off?

Bambambini · 30/03/2017 16:44

Maybe it's that when i've heard "tits" spoken it's mostly been by men, often leery men and never sounded innocent.

I use boobs more often - just sounds less threatening or leery imo.

Justmuddlingalong · 30/03/2017 16:54

Remember Ronnie Corbett in ‘Sorry' back in the day. His DM always said 'Language Timothy!' That's what springs to my mind. Grin

Cindersfurslippers · 30/03/2017 16:59

Vlad I suspect so.

I only use tits in the phrase 'gets right on my tits' otherwise it's bangers or breasts.
Cock is a word I use, a lot.

almondpudding · 30/03/2017 17:14

Breasts - acceptable and pleasant term.
Bosom - breasts that are being hoiked into a bra.
Tits, boobs - no
Cock, dick- acceptable to an adult
Todger- this is not the eighties.
Vag - horrific.
Cunt - acceptable to some adults.
Bits- comedy term for genitalia of both sexes.

Weebleswobbles · 30/03/2017 17:23

I work in IT and there is an awful phrase used often 'tits up'

I don't know why but I hate it

tanfield90 · 30/03/2017 17:48

VladimirsPoutine. No that is not the case and I resent the suggestion. Same goes for Cinders. The majority of posters on this thread have expressed their opinions without pointing a finger of suspicion, which is the sort of response I was seeking. You both seem to have overlooked the fact that I mentioned my discomfort with the word 'cock' ( vulgar slang for a part of the male anatomy) and many posters have also expressed their opinions on this word. In other words, this thread isn't solely concerned with a female-oriented issue.

DS1 called DS2 a titface a few months ago. I was deeply unimpressed as it's a word we don't use. When I suggested another sort of word because 'tits' didn't sit right he called him a massive twat. Titface it is.

Cindersfurslippers · 30/03/2017 18:10

It's still a man, asking women to talk about tits.

I wouldn't be comfortable in real life, and I'm not comfortable online.

I tried to report your OP, but just got an error.

Dearlittleflo · 30/03/2017 18:19

wanking frenzy

Dearlittleflo · 30/03/2017 18:21

I'll try that again-

wanking frenzy

caz323 · 30/03/2017 18:34

Have no wish to voice an opinion on this, but for some reason, you have reminded me of the funny Benny Hill name for a bra:

An 'over the shoulder boulder holder'!! Have not thought of that for years. Grin

ArriettyClock1 · 30/03/2017 19:46

Ew. Didn't notice OP was a man.

Weird.

If my husband was posting this on Mumsnet I'd think him weird and a bit pervy.

I can't read the work norks without hearing Hugh Dennis.

OwlDoll · 30/03/2017 23:06

But the OP didn't have to tell us he was a man. Why would he out himself if all he was wanting was to get off on reading about various words used instead of tit.

Did anyone else ever call them diddies? Thats what we called them when we were young. It was quite a naughty word and you def wouldn't have said it in front of an adult. Mind you this was NI in the 80s, when anything even vaugely related to sex was taboo in polite company.

bionicant · 30/03/2017 23:08

use thrupenny instead

LordTrash · 30/03/2017 23:10

Tits is horrible a la Readers Wives porn of the 70s/80s.

But cock is magnificent. No other euphemism will do.

kali110 · 31/03/2017 00:07

Nope no problem with tits.
Probably use rhe word boobs more though.
I too can't stand the breasts.

NightWanderer omg there's a tittytwister by you?? An actual tittytwister!

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 31/03/2017 00:13

Check out this dude's name though Grin

To think that the word 'tits' (as in 'breasts') is a little too vulgar ?
rollonthesummer · 31/03/2017 00:15

Breasts
Bosoms
Bust
Bazookas
Boobs
Jugs
Tits
Titties

I think bust is the least rude actually. That's a dressmaking term ;)

What about norks and knockers?!
