Is this the most sexist front page ever?

I never ever post in AIBU but I have just watched newsnight and could not believe my eyes when going through tomorrow's front pages of the newspapers.

I don't read said publication so will not post a direct link, but will leave this here instead:

Oh my god she did lol...

I also liked her tweet about her footwear. I'd like to see more of this in the media please Grin

rogueantimatter · 28/03/2017 14:01

Men being perved on in papers doesn't make women being perved on in papers any better.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 28/03/2017 14:06

No it doesn't, but interestingly the OUTRAGE and the screams of SEXIST is missing.

rogueantimatter · 28/03/2017 14:07

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGHHHHH

There's a scream of outrage from me. Grin

rogueantimatter · 28/03/2017 14:10

I'm also straight and also have a crush on Ruth Davidson btw. I see she exchanges tweets with Susan Calman, who has also tweeted a picture of her legs.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 28/03/2017 14:10

Thanks rogue.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 28/03/2017 14:13

Wow!!

I'm not going to google it just in case google picks up on it and starts bombarding me with pictures of politicians legs.

Ruthies were enough for me today :)

rogueantimatter · 28/03/2017 14:18

You're very welcome Nippy.

I was so annoyed by the DFail article I considered going to my corner shop, buying all the Fails and burning them on the pavement. But only briefly. I'm far too cowardly to do anything like that. Sad

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 28/03/2017 14:25

I hope they put Ruthies in tomorrow, she went to a real effort as well. I liked the bubbles.

If we had any good male politicians perhaps they could be included..

Perhaps Neil Findlay. He's been pretty good lately.

howabout · 28/03/2017 14:36

Someone posted a splice of Boris Gove and JC in shorts on RD's twitter. No-one needs to see that.

DeleteOrDecay · 28/03/2017 14:38

this is a front page of a national newspaper with our two most senior politicians being reduced to body parts in a way that two men never would.

This is the crux of it for me.

Just because men have been perved on in the papers before (arguably to a lesser extent than women) doesn't somehow make this acceptable. Let's not forget the near constant updates from various 'news' outlets criticising TM's hair, make up, clothes. It never happens to the same extent to males in a position of power.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 28/03/2017 14:38

Jesus!!!

I'll give it a few days before I go back for a look. I'm not sure I'd recover from that.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 28/03/2017 14:41

I love her style, she wears statement clothing so it is understandable that it draws media attention.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 28/03/2017 14:43

I really disagree. Corbyn and trump have taken a real blasting for their "Style".

It is childish. If you are not a childish person you buy a different paper.

WaegukSaram · 28/03/2017 14:51

WTF?! Nauseating.

They wanted their legs in the photos.

Hmm
BartholinsSister · 28/03/2017 14:58

Why should women have to wear trousers to be taken seriously?
To be fair, so do men.

BertrandRussell · 28/03/2017 15:20

Where are all these men being peeves on? Must have missed them.

BertrandRussell · 28/03/2017 15:23

.......perved........

SherlockPotter · 28/03/2017 15:31

I wouldn't expect anything less from that shit rag.

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 28/03/2017 15:34

Upthread guardian...

Trudeau

There was also quite a bit of attention for Obama...

Prince William anyone?

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 28/03/2017 15:36

Well yes quite, but you can't exactly ban it if you want to live in a free world. I think many tabloids are the same childish nonsense. If you don't like it you don't buy it.

SherlockPotter · 28/03/2017 15:44

You are right, I don't buy it. Media is very biased, so I tend to steer away from it including those trashy weekly celeb magazines.

shovetheholly · 28/03/2017 15:44

I think there's a lot that can be done short of "banning it" - putting pressure on advertisers via organisations like Hope Not Hate, for instance.

The DM is repeatedly a tool for ideological violence like this - sexism, racism, and occasionally homophobia. To call them out on it isn't disrespectful to the principles of a 'free world', quite the reverse. Just to sit there and accept it is quiescent in the extreme.

BakeOffBiscuits · 28/03/2017 15:50

The male equivalent wouldn't be senior politicians in shorts, as men's legs aren't "perved" over. It would be a picture on the front page comparing their their muscle thighs, arses or chests.

The DM have released a statement which is a blatant lie. They have said "Oh get life", yes, really they actually said that. They then went on to say it was only on the sidebar of shame. It's on the fucking front page!

GrumpyOldBag · 28/03/2017 16:01

It did say 'lighthearted' on the cover.

Later editions amended the streamlines to show it was Sarah Vine (i.e.a woman) being 'lighthearted' after a stream of complaints about sexism to the Fail.

They really are utter cunts.
