Where's Theresa?

Following the shocking news from London, where is the Leader of the U.K and what is her response to this?

OP posts:
DermotOLogical · 22/03/2017 18:41

Amber Rudd has made a statement, is that not good enough?

TM will be busy chairing COBRA and trying to find out what has happened. Give the woman a break.

BakeOffBiscuits · 22/03/2017 18:41

Blair would have been out and about by now, with an insincere, sickening "reassuring" little speech.

However I'd much rather the PM just got on with their job rather than speaking to the media.

Believeitornot · 22/03/2017 18:42

Actually I'm in two minds on this one.

Yes she has to chair the cobra meeting but she could have said something briefly. If she spoke to Donald trump then that's a bit Hmm

But I also think that she needs to be careful what she says although she has an army of advisors anyway so it's not as if she's needs to make it up herself.

Tough call.

BalloonSlayer · 22/03/2017 18:44

From the BBC website:

Theresa May leaves Downing Street ahead of cobra in the next few hours
6:28 PM - 22 Mar 2017

So Cobra isn't on yet.

user0000000001 · 22/03/2017 18:44

I want to hear from the leader of the UK following an attack at Westminster.

Oh shush.

She has more important things to do (like, assess whether the threat is over, or whether there may be further strikes, for one) and will give you your figurative pat on the head in due course.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 22/03/2017 18:44

Yes she has to chair the cobra meeting but she could have said something briefly. If she spoke to Donald trump then that's a bit hmm

Not hmm at all. Do you for example know the nationality of all those injured? She has a duty to do her job which is what she is doing!

JustAnotherSilentOldNumber · 22/03/2017 18:45

If she spoke to Donald trump then that's a bit

She will have informed all the leaders of what happened and shared information.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 22/03/2017 18:45

*So Cobra isn't on yet.

No but trust me security briefings will be

Hellothereitsme · 22/03/2017 18:45

Being that London is still in lock down it clearly hasn't finished yet. They don't know if he acted on his own, if bombs have been left etc etc, there is no way they can bring her out to report on it at this stage. Just gives publicity to any other terrorists.

user0000000001 · 22/03/2017 18:46

Rather, listen to assessments.

I'd rather she be on hand to make immediate decisions than record a bloody sound bite.

CaroleService · 22/03/2017 18:46

I think the COBRA meeting will be more effective, and TM chair it more effectively, if it is held with the benefit of all the info that can be gleaned. Which is presumably what has been occupying her so far.

user0000000001 · 22/03/2017 18:48

So Cobra isn't on yet.

No, but being that the SAS, MI5, Special Branch, Met, and every man and his dog is involved, I'm fairly sure there's enough to keep her busy.

Cadsuane · 22/03/2017 18:49

She is the Prime Minister not a press officer. A statement will be made at the appropriate time and you don't know enough to say when the appropriate time is.

Believeitornot · 22/03/2017 18:50

I am well aware she has a duty to do her job. I am also aware that she has shit to do. But having it heard from her for a while, it made me wonder how long does it have to be before we have a statement from the government? I think the Mayor of London said something quite early on. Which made me wonder.

I said it was a tough call.

OfaFrenchmind2 · 22/03/2017 18:50

I live in London, and I far more prefer a doer than a talker. I do not need platitudes, but we need thought-out responses.
OP, stop sharing the mind of your direct neighbours please.

cauliwobbles · 22/03/2017 18:53

I'd prefer a statement, which we got, from Head of Counter Terrorism.

How on earth do you know what goes through n inside a COBRA meeting?

BoffinMum · 22/03/2017 18:55

I would have expected her to put out a very short written statement around 6pm or so.

cauliwobbles · 22/03/2017 18:55

People have a lot more going on close to the action than reassuring someone who is more at threat from marauding fucking sheep too!

Really, think bout the families who have lost loved ones, the bystanders who will forever have the images of utter carnage in their minds eye.

eddiemairswife · 22/03/2017 18:57

I'm quite surprised that Tony Blair hasn't made a statement. He's not shy of publicity.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/03/2017 18:58

I don't think there is anything Theresa May could have added to the information that we were given, and I agree with the other posters, that she has had more important things to do than to do a press conference.

"This is the same sort of attitude that got people baying for The Queen's blood when she had 'abandoned her people' in London, rather than staying with her grieving young grandchildren in Balmoral."

@CountessOfStrathearn - I said exactly this, in those days after Diana's death. I could not understand the selfishness that wanted the Queen to come down to London instead of staying at Balmoral and helping looking after two boys who had just lost their mother.

wasonthelist · 22/03/2017 19:00

Yabu op what the fuck do you expect her to say?

MichaelSheensNextDW · 22/03/2017 19:02

Some people need to stop projecting. The question is being asked as in, 'what should we expect?', 'what's normal?' in these very thankfully extraordinary conditions.

"I got this" - TMthePM

llamadramas · 22/03/2017 19:08

I'm sure TM is personally ringing round all the nurseries in London to ensure they have adequate plans in place. As soon as she's called round all of them she will appear in-front of No. 10 to reassure London parents that she is on top of wrap-around childcare during terrorist attacks.

Then on to COBRA.
