Following the shocking news from London, where is the Leader of the U.K and what is her response to this?

OP posts:

MichaelSheensNextDW Very inappropriate, given the circumstances, meme, follows - but like you I am not a Mail follower, or a goady fucker. Just posting my credentials after a lot of 'get you' and fuck off with your thoughts.

As if any PM, male or female, has an actual clue about how the Security Services respond, or what they direct the Military to do in the event of an attack on the capital - yes of course, TM (or any other PM) obviously has the experience, training, and knowledge to solely co-ordinate a full scale counter terrorist attack.

There was, and still is, an opportunity to hear from the leader of the UK following an event that will have a significant impact on many people in the days to come. Not Theresa baiting, not Tory baiting, just puzzled.

I can only reiterate that I AM deeply sorry for the families and friends of those affected by today, and the wider difficulties and concern experienced by those who live and are travelling within all affected areas.

Where's Theresa?

OP, there is no comparison in seriousness between 9/11 and the July 2007 bombings in London. Geographically, only a small part of London has been affected and, while the deaths and injuries are distressing and to be regretted, they are not on the scale of the other attacks.

Toadinthehole · 22/03/2017 19:12

I see Nicola Stugeon was quicker off the mark. She issued a short statement in which she mentioned "Scotland" or "Scottish" seven times. Most impressive. Is that what you'd prefer OP?

Danglingmod · 22/03/2017 19:13

You do know she was Home Secretary for 6 years, OP?

I think she has a pretty good grasp of how the security services work.

Let her do her job.

TizzyDongue · 22/03/2017 19:14

No point her appearing on TV a few minutes after the incident just to say 'oh deary me, this isn't nice is it. No idea who or why though. Not sure if there's more to come either,, but still feel better now as I've spoken'

Plus there's the fact that intelligence may think she's a target so at risk.

Also it really hasn't been that long in reality.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 22/03/2017 19:14

Please stop...

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 22/03/2017 19:18

Far better that the PM focuses on the job at hand.

The statements from the police seem to be sufficient for the time being.

AyeAmarok · 22/03/2017 19:19

I find it disgusting how quick some people are to try and score cheap political points on the back of a terrorist attack where innocent people have been killed.

I suspect you're some sort of Nat.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/03/2017 19:19

OP: AIBU

Rest of posters : YABU - and this is why.

OP: No, I am not being unreasonable.

Repeat ad nauseam.

derxa · 22/03/2017 19:20

Reported this thread. It's disgusting.

user1490123259 · 22/03/2017 19:21

A speech from the heart, and hip, would be appropriate from May, No?

NO

absolutly not.

you want the head of government to take a break from running the country to concentrate on sound bytes and spin?

To be honest, I would have no respect for any such cheap meaningless media tricks.

Where are your priorities?

user0000000001 · 22/03/2017 19:21

As if any PM, male or female, has an actual clue about how the Security Services respond, or what they direct the Military to do in the event of an attack on the capital -

Ummm.. take it from someone who knows a little about this sort of stuff.

Yeah they do.

NotYoda · 22/03/2017 19:21

I don't think her saying anything right now would make any difference either way.

And I would respectfully advise that there's absolutely no point in worrying about this. There is literally nothing that will be improved by you or I worrying.

I am not coming out in support of this PM, by the way.

SuffolkBumkin · 22/03/2017 19:22

Has Sadiq Kahn given a statement?

NotYoda · 22/03/2017 19:25

I wonder if you being 400 miles away is making you feel more in need of reassurance. I am in London and I don't think anything TM would say would reassure me

rumblingDMexploitingbstds · 22/03/2017 19:25

I'm not sure at this point what TM or Sadiq Kahn or anyone can say other than the standard platitudes about thoughts and prayers. The police have been making regular statements and they have actual information people need to know, the news channels are also turning out actual information and interviews. What else is needed?

TattyCat · 22/03/2017 19:28

I would think that those with more time on their hands will be the ones making statements. I have more confidence in a PM who gets on with the job than one who offers platitudes.

Unfortunately, the advent of the Internet has also given idiots a voice.

Do you also chase ambulances, op, because you need to know what's going on? What, exactly, would 'reassure' you at this point?

PennyPickle · 22/03/2017 19:29

What would you like TM to say at this point? There is nothing she can say except to share her heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have lost loved ones.

Let her gain relevent information before she addresses the nation. I'm sure she will when the time is right -and she actually has something to say

TattyCat · 22/03/2017 19:30

But then again op, I suppose you might say Tony 'Bliar' was a great leader. Because he made really good, reassuring speeches, in a timely manner!

Gah.

MichaelSheensNextDW · 22/03/2017 19:32

C4 now reporting that Mrs May will make a statement shortly after the COBRA meeting, and that in the interim she has said that she is thinking of the victims and their families.

No bitchy 'is that good enough for you' comebacks are necessary, thanks.

user0000000001 · 22/03/2017 19:34

Never has the saying "Those who know don’t talk. Those who talk don’t know" been more apt.

AyeAmarok · 22/03/2017 19:35

Nicola, is that you?

Believeitornot · 22/03/2017 19:35

I think her statement was perfect. No more no less needed.

Embekkisson1 · 22/03/2017 19:35

Actually the COBRA meeting is underway now and questions will be asked . In fact the first question will be " are the right questions being asked ?" And Theresa May will be fully aware of that question .

paxillin · 22/03/2017 19:40

It is 5 hours after the begin of a terrorist attack.

I think it looks weak not to have shown her face and given a brief "it is in hand, carry on" comment. She does not need to outline the anti-terror policies planned for the next four years.
