She may also be unable to work for some time. The cost to repatriate him will be very high. Sad

doublesnap · 23/03/2017 19:37

*"Very heartening to see that 221k has been raised for Keith palmers family, such a shame it's needed though."

Eh? Who say's it's needed?*

Me. His family have lost a father and a husband in terrible circumstances and if people want to donate to support the family then that's their choice.

Do you also begrudge the three children of the couple who both died of cancer recently the donations that they received?

ShamefulDodger · 23/03/2017 19:38

Fucking hell.

I know that's how the system works over there but I just wish it could be a bit more 'human'.

That poor family has been through enough.

Doyouwantabrew · 23/03/2017 19:38

Do you think Trump could actually be shamed into helping with the bills? It would be good publicity for him and that would suit him.

originalbiglymavis · 23/03/2017 19:45

He actually has no shame.

HeeHighls · 23/03/2017 19:45

Four people died yesterday in the terror.

Five people died in unrelated road accidents.

Five more died today.

Five more will die tomorrow and so on.

Makes you think, I hope, and of course some are children.

Knee jerk reaction is to send cash, even when you can't afford to.

Please look after your own.

Unless you have more than 2m, keep your money in your pocket.

PortiaCastis · 23/03/2017 19:47

Bugger off I donate my money as I choose

originalbiglymavis · 23/03/2017 19:50

What a creep. Hope you never need anyone to reach out and help you.

Can you even imagine being in their shoes? No, because you have no empathy.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 23/03/2017 19:51

HeeHighls

What a selfish attitude.

Grow up

expatinscotland · 23/03/2017 19:54

'Please look after your own.'

They are our own.

Cannot believe this thread has been corrupted by bitter haters like this.

Doyouwantabrew · 23/03/2017 19:55

original you have a point there he doesn't.

Hee what a charmer you are and quite see why you wouldn't donate.

originalbiglymavis · 23/03/2017 19:55

Just idiots amusing themselves.

Doyouwantabrew · 23/03/2017 19:56

We should stop feeding shouldn't we just gets under your skin on such a bloody sad day

ShamefulDodger · 23/03/2017 19:57
Shock

They are 'our own'.

Fuck me, this is getting ridiculous.

ShamefulDodger · 23/03/2017 19:58

True, sorry I should have ignored it

RJnomore1 · 23/03/2017 19:59

I think the money is more than the money. It's a collective outpouring of suppport for those who have been hardest hurt by this. It's a way of saying FUCK you who did this, we stand against you. It's a chance for those far away and feeling frustrated to do something proactive and be part of something.

And I bet every person who receives money this way would swap it all in s heartbeat to have their loved one back. But I hope they draw comfort as well from knowing so many people thought of them and stand with them in their grief.

......................................

You all donate. I just don't like to see a poster promising a contribution when she gets paid. It's obviously a struggle. I have first hand knowledge of the Police Federation and his widow and children will want for nothing.

As for the three children funded by donations? Nothing to do with me as a private matter. Nor are they funded by the most powerful union in the UK. Different matter entirely.

My concern is hard up mums contributing when the widow is in line for a million pound pay out or possibly double.

At least hang back when you've not two brass farthings to rub together.
I should hope that they refuse a single penny but donate it to a good cause.
We'll see.

SexTrainGlue · 23/03/2017 20:26

"Do you think Trump could actually be shamed into helping with the bills?"

What bills? Emergency treatment is free on NHS, irrespective of residency or nationality.

Soubriquet · 23/03/2017 20:28

No one is forced to donate.

There's no one saying you must give x amount or your an embarrassment

The mothers who don't have a brass farthing to rub as you so put, probably won't donate. They will show support in other ways

But what people choose to do with their money is their business and if they want to donate a small amount to help with the financial burden of losing a loved one in the line of duty that is their choice.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 23/03/2017 20:28

When they return to the USA. The gentleman will also need to be repatriated.

I actually think on this one that Trump will actually do it.

FlappinSwazy · 23/03/2017 20:29

HeeHigh

No one "promised" to donate when the got paid. I can't see that anywhere in this thread.

Where people choose to donate their money has absolutely nothing to do with you.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 23/03/2017 20:29

I should hope that they refuse a single penny but donate it to a good cause

Absolutely nothing to do with you and not your call to make in any way shape or form.

originalbiglymavis · 23/03/2017 20:30

If they need long term care in the states the NHS won't be paying then will it?

HeeHighls · 23/03/2017 20:31

"Your own" as in your children, not others who are being cared for by the Police . I don't think you realise just how the Police are cared for.

FlappinSwazy · 23/03/2017 20:31

A. They may not have had travel insurance.

B. NHS is not free for American tourists - they, or their travel insurance company, will be billed.

C. Like I said, it can be used to compensate other relatives who have flown to the UK to be with them.

D. For the woman with the two girls - I hope the money raised will lessen the impact on the Dad suddenly becoming a single parent, either in the short term or the long term. He doesn't have the support of the Police Federation behind him.
