Sorry if this already has been written about in a thread elsewhere.

I've just seen that Noel Fielding (the comedian from The Mighty Boosh) is confirmed as the new host of the Bake Off alongside Sandi Toksvig.

I'm quite surprised, to be honest. What does everyone else think?

I was a bit taken aback at first but I'm definitely interested in watching it.

mycatisginger · 16/03/2017 22:46

I am very excited by this news!

NetballHoop · 16/03/2017 22:48

I'm not really bothered. I won't watch it because I do hold a grudge and they shouldn't have been so greedy.

Buttercupsandaisies · 16/03/2017 22:51

I think he's fab do quite excited!

TiggyD · 16/03/2017 22:52

Sandi will be great. Noel might be a train wreak.

I'm sure they've done a screen test and it went ok. Hmm

ToadsforJustice · 16/03/2017 22:54

Disaster. RIP GBBO.

Megatherium · 16/03/2017 22:54

I can't see it working with Noel Fielding. The reason it worked with Sue and Mel was that they were not only funny, they empathised with and supported the contestants. Noel Fielding will make it all about him.

5BlueHydrangea · 16/03/2017 22:56

No thanks. I thought the other 2 (Mel and Sue) were irritating, these will be much worse!

5foot5 · 16/03/2017 22:57

Well there wasn't much going for it before but this has utterly killed it. Sandi Toksvig is a good egg but Noel Fielding is a grinning idiot too far

Justmuddlingalong · 16/03/2017 22:58

I think it will be a bit mad and chaotic. I have a feeling Paul Hollywood's already tarnished reputation will be thrown out with the eggshells.

PamplemousseRouge · 16/03/2017 22:59

I'm a bit worried about Noel Fielding presenting it - I feel like he's a bit too 'kooky' and quirky, and the whole point of GBBO for me was a comforting and cosy show that I found genuinely funny when Mel and Sue were in charge. Really want to like the new GBBO but I'm not sure :(

Channel four dumb everything down. Did you watch the Paralympic coverage they did. It was like watching an episode of Mr tumble. I won't be watching GBBO again.

Bluntness100 · 16/03/2017 22:59

How bizzare. I didn't even know who he was and had to google him. I also find Sandi a strange choice, she's spectacularly unfunny but I think maybe has potential.. But meh from me and I might watch the first one if nothing else on and I remember. Poor hosting choices in my opinion. Guess they had budget issues.

ImFuckingSpartacus · 16/03/2017 22:59

This news makes me more interested in watching it on C4, but its a surprising choice.

5foot5 · 16/03/2017 22:59

megatherium said what I meant

Nydj · 16/03/2017 22:59

The irony of Sandi, one of the founders of the Women's Equality Party being added as someone who will be 'alongside' Noel as opposed to being a co-host.

I will watch at least one episode out of loyalty to Sandi.

PamplemousseRouge · 16/03/2017 23:00

I miss Mary, Mel and Sue already!

Megatherium · 16/03/2017 23:07

I find Sandi Toksvig very funny, and I think she's given QI a new lease of life. However, I'm not sure her fairly dry style of humour will translate to BakeOff.

I think what is liable to kill it is just the fact of being on commercial TV. Either they'll have to have a shorter programme to accommodate the ad breaks, which will spoil it, or they will have to lengthen it which will reduce the chances of people sticking with individual episodes. Having the programme broken up by ad breaks will be a pain in the neck, there'll be loads of product placement, and I suspect we'll find themes being dictated by what advertisers want rather than by what makes for an interesting and good quality programme.

^Simon Amstell nailed it.

It is a shame Julian Barratt is not co hosting.
They could have called themselves The Mighty Amuse-Bouche
Wink Grin

I will watch it of course, rubbernecker what I am. But I do wonder regarding Fielding being appointed whether producers picked up on the Ooh Richard Ayoyade fanfare when that rumour did the rounds and thought: Okay, he's never going to do it, let's brainstorm...

viques · 16/03/2017 23:12

Hope he ties his hair back, nothing so offputting as long black hairs trailing in the ganache

PamplemousseRouge · 16/03/2017 23:12

Ahh I love Simon Amstell Gin! Wonder if he'd be up for hosting?? And that's so true about the ad breaks Megatherium, I didn't even think of that. I wonder how they'll get round it?

I can't STAND Noel Fielding - so won't be watching.

The guy's an idiot. I'm not even sure where he came from apart seemingly being on every panel show.

RIP GBBO

WorraLiberty · 16/03/2017 23:15

It's a strange choice.

I'm expecting many many space cake recipes Grin Torch

Tbh I don't think it's going to work no matter who takes over.

On a different note, I seem to be in a minority on MN but I thought Mel and Sue were cringeworthy shite.

Butterymuffin · 16/03/2017 23:15

I love Noel Fielding but I'd never have picked him for this in a million years.
