Sorry if this already has been written about in a thread elsewhere.

I've just seen that Noel Fielding (the comedian from The Mighty Boosh) is confirmed as the new host of the Bake Off alongside Sandi Toksvig.

I'm quite surprised, to be honest. What does everyone else think?

To be fair to Noel, I didn't mind him in "The IT Crowd".

user1487175389 · 17/03/2017 06:45

Argh, he's enough to put anyone off their food!

The80sweregreat · 17/03/2017 06:52

Why would Noel Fielding even be doing this? The only thing i can think is the producers want more young people watching it - i know he isnt that young , but he is seen as cool and a bit edgy so might attract more 30 somethings to tune in! Really think its odd.

cowgirlsareforever · 17/03/2017 06:54

I hate him after I heard him take the piss out of people who have to wear 'special shoes' once.

carabos · 17/03/2017 06:58

I think the new line up is very Channel 4. They're obviously not trying to replicate the BBC GBBO style, it'll be quite different I reckon and NF is probably central to that.

FumBluff1 · 17/03/2017 06:59

I won't bother watching now

NiceCuppaTeaAndASitDown · 17/03/2017 07:00

I'll be watching. I really warmed to Noel after watching Travel Man in Copenhagen - and actually, after seeing him visit a local bakery in that I can see why they might have gone with him!
Lovely man.

Bananamanfan · 17/03/2017 07:02

Ds told me it would be Richard Ayoade, i am very disappointed it's NF, he doesn't really do anything iykwim :-(
Sandi Toksvig will be good though.

The80sweregreat · 17/03/2017 07:09

They will turn it all hipster now with the cakes - ( remembers the wanky things everywhere thread a few weeks ago..) and yes to lots of product placements for icing sugar and flour - and annoying ads for them that will go on forever - plus a ' win a trip to france to visit their world famous bakeries' or some such nonsense.

WateryTart · 17/03/2017 07:09

I've never watched it in the past but I have a crush on Noel so may start watching now.

I have never seen bake-off.

I might make an effort now though just to see how fucking weird making cakes can get.

That1950sMum · 17/03/2017 07:20

I can't watch that preening twat. Shame because I think Sandi's great!

SootSprite · 17/03/2017 07:25

No one could replace Mary so, for that reason alone, I won't be watching. I can't stand Paul Hollywood.

It's all a bit of a train wreck now.

RebootYourEngine · 17/03/2017 07:32

I wont be watching. I am not a fan of Paul, Sandi or Noel. Noel is ok on shows like big fat quiz but i dont think he is right for bake off.

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 17/03/2017 07:36

I love both of them. Let's hope the contestants are a bit better than the last lot too.

MyOtherNameIsTaken · 17/03/2017 07:39

I like Noel so I'll be watching it for the first time ever 😁

skerrywind · 17/03/2017 07:41

A train crash.

MagicMarkers · 17/03/2017 07:41

I think they're all good choices and I'll probably watch it. I'm more likely to be put off by the adverts (I fast forward over those anyway) and the endless recaps of what we just watched three minutes before. It's like we're so thick that we can't remember what happened before the adverts.

I'll probably also try the new BBC cooking challenge show with Nadiya too.

I like Paul Hollywood.

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 17/03/2017 07:45

I like Paul Hollywood too. Was never keen on Mary.

mateysmum · 17/03/2017 07:52

I will be open minded enough to watch one episode but I'm not hopeful.

I think Pru will be fine - nobody can doubt her expertise. Sandi - not sure. She can be very quick, but she's not funny in the warm way Mel and Sue are. Noel - really? He just seems so outside the Bakeoff tent in more ways than one. Mel and Sue managed to be funny whilst not taking over the show, not sure Noel can manage that.

It'll be v interesting to see the dynamic between Sandi and Noel - seems a weird combo to me.

Chippednailvarnishing · 17/03/2017 07:52

Should have been Jo Brand.

diddl · 17/03/2017 07:52

Never watched it-might start.

Florrick · 17/03/2017 07:53

I don't watch X Factor et al due to the drama and back stories, and had the great misfortune to catch the end of The Voice recently.

Someones future came down to Will.I.Am.Not's decision and he over milked it with prolonged indecision and drama. These programmes are all the same.

Why NF when there are some far better choices out there????? Nooooo....Sad

expatinscotland · 17/03/2017 07:56

Nah, not going to watch it. Paul Hollywood's a twat.
