Things that can never be saved

Am I the only one who thinks that corn beef is just one of those delicacies that can never be saved, it does not matter how much you try to make it taste nice, it is just awful? Followed by the pointlessness that is tomatoes(boring and acidic) and oranges(hate how it explodes in the mouth and untidy to eat)?

The only time I make corn beef (once a year maybe) is frying onions and adding corn beef, then adding tinned tomatoes and sweetcorn. Loads of salt and pepper and serving with white rice.
Dp will not eat corner beef or mince.

FoodGloriousFud · 16/03/2017 11:31

I was going to say a relationship after cheating!! Haha. Totally missed the point

Totally agree about corned beef. I don't think pasta tastes any where near as good the next day.

SuperManStoleMyPants · 16/03/2017 11:31

Mmmmmm...corned beef and tomato sandwiches with mayo on soft white bread...Yabu

Renaissance2017 · 16/03/2017 11:32

Oh hell. I love a corned beef and tomato sandwich. Does that make me the Devil?

CigarsofthePharoahs · 16/03/2017 11:33

Corned beef is grim. Its too dry and has a weird texture.

Trifleorbust · 16/03/2017 11:33

Corned beef mixed in with mashed potato - mmm!

Mulberry72 · 16/03/2017 11:44

Corned beef & picallilli sandwiches with a packet of salt and vinegar square crisps! Heaven!

fruityb · 16/03/2017 11:46

Corned beef, salad cream, lettuce and onions in a sandwich. Or with potatoes fried with a fried egg.

I love the stuff.

OwlinaTree · 16/03/2017 11:47

Corned beg and Branston pickle is a child hood memory. Yum yum!

onthettcbus · 16/03/2017 11:48

You are wrong about tomatoes and oranges, sorry.

LeMontane · 16/03/2017 11:49

I am convinced my tastes are better Halo

White under wear under white outer wear can never be made to look angelic classy- I did this mistake earlier this week - I sort of knew it looked revealing for work but I thought I could get away with it - not!

Thank you Guinness for giving me a great idea for my lunch! Off to the shops now, corned beef, tin potatoes, sweetcorn, check!!! Might share some with the dog.

liz70 · 16/03/2017 12:00

I don't eat meat now, but when I was younger, I used to love mixing corned beef with buttered mashed potato and tinned sweetcorn, with a bit of brown sauce stirred in. It was rather yummy, but admittedly, not very sophisticated. Grin

Talith · 16/03/2017 12:03

YABU Yum to corned beef. Most tomatoes are tasteless but if you get proper sweet scent full home grown ones they are a delight. I like soaking tomato slices in balsamic vinegar with a spoon of sugar. Absolutely yummy as heck.

I don't see the point of rice myself. Pointless bland filler. Ditto those gnocchi pasta ball things. Also non-streaky bacon. It is just salty cardboard. Also controversially, chocolate. Waxy oversweet cloying yukkiness. Grin

Zaphodsotherhead · 16/03/2017 12:08

LeMontane I am with you on tomatoes. It's taken me fifty six years to decide, but I really don't like them.

Also rice, pasta, potatoes and bread. Boring boring boring, only edible if slathered in butter and/or cream.

I don't think anything realy tastes nice served up twice. Can just about take roast beef cold the following day, everything else is just...flat, somehow.

ppeatfruit · 16/03/2017 12:10

No you are RIGHT about tomatoes and oranges. When I stopped eating and drinking them my eczema got better almost immediately.

So did my aching joints !!!!

Corned beef Yuch Yuch Yuch it looks like dog food and the smell Shock OMG

AnoiseAnnoysanOyster · 16/03/2017 12:10

Corned beef with tomato, lettuce and squeezey mustard in a sandwich is delicious. Yabu sorry!

QuimReaper · 16/03/2017 12:17

Oranges are AWFUL, I have never understood people who eat them! I'm traumatised by having them forced on me as a child, I always seemed to end up covered in cold sticky juice and chomping through six inches of pith, what on earth is the appeal?

SparkleTwinkleGoldGlitter · 16/03/2017 12:17

Corned beef is grim. Its too dry and has a weird texture If your corned beef is dry you are buying the wrong stuff! Corned beef with pickle on fresh thick sliced white bread is a thing of beauty.

I with you about tomatoes, I can eat them cooked in a pasta sauce or similar but I can't eat a cold tomato hate the taste, hate the texture

DJBaggySmalls · 16/03/2017 12:19

You forgot mangoes and pomegranates. Any food where you end up with more on your arms and the rug than in your mouth is pointless.

skerrywind · 16/03/2017 12:20

Corned beef is lovely, I can eat it straight from the can.

Also fantastic in stovies.

cantkeepawayforever · 16/03/2017 12:20

Corned beef heated up with about a zillion steamed sliced runner beans from my grandfather's garden ... camping food....

Stormtreader · 16/03/2017 12:20

Corned beef sandwiches with chicken soup is a classic, dont know why it works but it does!

Nannplum666 · 16/03/2017 12:21

the Northern delicacy that is Corned Beef Hash was a stable in our household as kids - still request it when go my Dad's for tea!

got to have ketchup on it though

ppeatfruit · 16/03/2017 12:21

Sparkle Aren't you referring to salt beef which is generally eaten with a gherkin on rye bread ? That's ok ( I don't eat it though).
