To wonder why England wants to keep Scotland?

Or am I being really thick? NS has been causing no end of grief the past few years always complaining about how bad Scotland has it (despite receiving more money for Scotland than Scotland gives back) also promising English votes for English laws and then changing that when something she didn't like can up. Her financial plan depends on the North Sea oil. If Scotland keeps rights to that it'll last fifty years tops before oil runs out. She just seems to be a constant pain and wants special treatment which wales and NI don't ever seem to get. I do love Scotland but right now I'm inclined to cheerily wave them off and wish the good luck.

Tim Farron also has said he would go into government with the Tories again.

Nyx · 20/03/2017 12:02

Saying the system is set up so the SNP could have a majority. I do apologies.

Nyx · 20/03/2017 12:02

*apologise.

Headofthehive55 · 20/03/2017 12:02

Id like an apology please nyx.
"finding someone funny" is rather rude in a serious debate.

Headofthehive55 · 20/03/2017 12:03

Cross post. Thank you.

Nyx, my family members and friends working within NHS Scotland and NHS England state that NHS England is in a much worse condition than NHS Scotland.

I would point out that Hunt et al have privatisation in mind (in the opinion of many not just me/my family), he actually wrote a book about this.
The first step it getting people to accept the destruction of socialised health care, is to defund and destabilise it to the extent that it's not safe... it's pretty much reached that point now. Private health care companies (many of them American) will come in to save the day, and we will all end up paying a lot more money for a lot less health care. It's instructive to have a wee look at the financial interests of current members of government (and their spouses and close associates), and see the many millions of ££££ they stand to gain (and in some cases, have already gained) through healthcare privatisation deals.

So far, the effects of the above are a bit more muted in NHS Scotland, but I believe NHS Scotland will fare better in and independent Scotland than within the U.K. after Brexit.
Yes, health is devolved and NHS Scotland is a legally separate entity from NHS England, but our funding is set with reference to what's happening with budgets within healthcare in rUK, and post Brexit it's likely that massive, increasing pressure is going to be applied on the UK gov by the American gov to open up the NHS further to private health care providers.

You're right though, I am probably not taking this particular thread seriously enough now so I will back away. Sorry for offense given (really I do mean this) and best of luck to all.

PlectrumElectrum · 20/03/2017 12:07

Tim Farron also has said he would go into government with the Tories again.

did he learn nothing from the last election & how that worked out for the LDs? I had a tiny glimmer of hope that we'd get someone to take up residence in the void between hard Brexit & independence & he's just pissed all over it with that comment.

Calyx72 · 20/03/2017 12:07

I can't take this thread seriously Nyx and you weren't as rude as some.

Calyx72 · 20/03/2017 12:10

Serious debate Grin

Calyx72 · 20/03/2017 12:11

There are some serious enough debaters but I had to laugh.

'A vote for yes is a vote for death'

WhatWouldKeanuDo · 20/03/2017 12:11

I think the confusion was over how Holyrood was set up to create coalition. This has been accepted from its inception. SNP in majority wasn't anticipated and indeed has since reverted to an SNP green coalition. Maybe this is why Nyx thought a joke had been made?

WhatWouldKeanuDo · 20/03/2017 12:13

And I'll never forget "The English are racist"

You have to laugh or you'd cry!!

Calyx72 · 20/03/2017 12:13

Keanu that's what I thought as well.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/03/2017 12:15

Let's face it, Plectrum, with absolutely no chance of gaining a significant amount of power in their own right, some LimpDems will do anything - anything at all - as long as it offers a chance of a place at the big boys' table

They remind me of little kids squealing "let me play ... oh, pleeease let me play ... I WANT A GO NOW!!"

Thegruffalowswife · 20/03/2017 12:45

I still maintain that it is likely to end in conflict.

Breaking up a 300year old union by means of divisive an ugly campaigning and without a large majority support will lead to conflict.

So yes in those terms a vote for yes is seriously running the risk of deadly conflict.

Thegruffalowswife · 20/03/2017 12:47

But yes "the english are racist" is Hmm

Thegruffalowswife · 20/03/2017 12:57

I think the whiter than white cloak will get mangled in the wash.

dangermouseisace · 20/03/2017 12:59

for those complaining about English being on the receiving end of 'hate crimes' in Scotland it's sad, but it works both ways.

When we moved to England locals were unbelievably hostile (we moved to a 'local place for local people' shithole). I got verbal abuse from people whom I had never even spoken to! Thankfully I moved to more cosmopolitan areas after dealing with years of abuse for being bloody British and I now like England. However, my parents have had to call the police on occasion- physical damage to property, letters, verbal abuse and events were registered by them as 'hate crimes'. The last incident was only about a year ago. I'm concerned that this sort of devisiveness is just going to stir things up, as the margins of England look increasingly inwards Sad

Headofthehive55 · 20/03/2017 13:06

Presumably if enough people vote for the SNP they would be in the majority. Or do somehow voting rules not allow that?

Thegruffalowswife · 20/03/2017 13:06

I completely agree danger mouse. This is exactly what I am trying to explain.

It is stirring up the idea of differences and hatred when there is no need at all.

When I lived in england people were not at all unpleasant towards my scottish parents, but I can see that it will change with the likes of tasmina belittling "little britain" etc. An the snps quisling comments.

The SNP have a hell of a lot to answer for.

People need to get a grip. The only way this will happen is to work together.

Thegruffalowswife · 20/03/2017 13:07

They were a majority but lost it last time
