To wonder why England wants to keep Scotland?

Or am I being really thick? NS has been causing no end of grief the past few years always complaining about how bad Scotland has it (despite receiving more money for Scotland than Scotland gives back) also promising English votes for English laws and then changing that when something she didn't like can up. Her financial plan depends on the North Sea oil. If Scotland keeps rights to that it'll last fifty years tops before oil runs out. She just seems to be a constant pain and wants special treatment which wales and NI don't ever seem to get. I do love Scotland but right now I'm inclined to cheerily wave them off and wish the good luck.

You know it's gruffalo don't you? Not gruffalow.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 21:43

Yes

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 21:44

Was a typo and by the time I realised there was no point changing lol...

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 21:44

Good job I'm not the US president eh...

Headofthehive55 · 19/03/2017 21:50

People don't normally react without division when both sides passionately want incompatible goals. It's human nature I'm afraid. Particularly when the result is close.

I do think however there is a lot of skating over the issues that separation brings. One of the benefits of belonging to a union is that you have a say in making regulations. And it's standard. Scotland will have to fall in with regulations made in London in order to trade but without any ability to influence them.

In some ways I don't think in a global world there is such a thing as independence as the picture that is presented.

That is a rather petty point isn't it? The misspelling of an appropriated username might be a typo or a private joke. Adds nothing to the discussion to point it out.

ocelot41 · 19/03/2017 21:59

That's a good point Head. I see it as the (relative, not absolute) freedom to lobby for the kinds of alliances you want. All of those will have limitations. Is the EU or EEA a better deal than the UK? Hard to tell without seeing exactly what is on the table.

Whisky2014 · 19/03/2017 22:00

Tbh gruff you talk about the company SNP keep. What about the peados, coke sniffers and prozzy users down in westminster? Theres never a perfect party is there? Or please tell me which one is squeaky clean?

AgentCooper · 19/03/2017 22:05

This thread has descended into a farce. So far unionists have been labelled as racists, and nationalists have been compared to Nazis, the IRA and ISIS. Never mind independence from the U.K., I'm starting to think living on a desert island away from other humans might be the best option!

V much agree, Saor. You'd get more sensible debate in a first year Modern Studies class. If I recall correctly, it took at least until 2014 for things to get this ridiculous on MN last time. Sad to see it's starting early.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 22:08

I don't care if politicians snort coke all day long and fuck dead pigs etc. as long they are not proto fascists, which I think is infinately more dangerous.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 19/03/2017 22:10

Well Saor having attempted to scale the moral high ground lost footage with the unnecessary comment on Gruff's username.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 22:11

I am warning you of the dangers. This sort exist sadly within my own family. They have a large network and are very snp.

I am not condemning you for wishing for independence, but voting snp in order to get it is a disaster.

What are you talking about?

Headofthehive55 · 19/03/2017 22:14

It's normal to share freely with ones partner. For example some patients travel to English hospitals for specialist treatment. If Scotland were to separate these patients would not have that easy option as they would be overseas patients. Those sort of things do affect people's lives, and chances of them living them!
Specialist centres are by and large concentrated in certain areas as you need the throughput of patients. I would feel more concerned about being in a smaller population as the it would be unreasonable to expect the same level of expertise in a smaller population. It's a bit like not being able to go outside Yorkshire for treatment.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 22:14

I find fascism frightening yes..

Whisky2014 · 19/03/2017 22:15

I dont care if SNP are in power or not. I want independence and at the mo the SNP are asking for it. Its highley unlikely they will stay in power forever. NS is hardly gona be around forever. Since uk voted to brexit we are entitled to check again how scottish people feel. That is fair imo.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 22:15

I agree head of the hive, but the things I have mentioned above about the snp worry me more.

It all worries me tbh

ocelot41 · 19/03/2017 22:19

I see your point Head. At the same time, I gave birth in an English hospital and the overcrowding was so bad, very serious problems were not spotted - we could have both died. One of the reasons I am interested in independence is to protect our health service which is seriously under funded and overstretched.

justnowords · 19/03/2017 22:20

goodness me, calls of banning the snp, death to yes voters, 'keeping' Scotland. Honestly Gruffalow, when the people who agree with your unionist views accuse you of being a yes plant, does that not make you stop and think how ridiculous you sound? However, as a yes voter, I insist you go on with your incredulous rambling, does more good for the Yes Vote than any Independence rallying Grin

Tapandgo · 19/03/2017 22:24

No idea where the myth began that Scots who want independence hate the English. Husband is English and happily lives in Scotland - never had any abuse about being English other than in jest - just as I, a Scot, get when in England.

A once independent nation has many people in it who feel their future is better having independence again. Many (not just snp supporters) resent having a Tory government again, when they did not vote for it and only elected one Tory MP. They resent being dragged out of the EU when they voted to remain in it. Small wonder they want to control their own future.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 22:28

death to yes voters

Who said this?

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 22:32

It is certainly not a myth. Please see above articles of snp members

I have nationalist family members. I know what I am talking about. There are of course yes voters who want independence and are not racist. I just think if they do not support fascism the snp is not the way to go.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 22:33

I agree with banning separatist governments

Minstrelsareyum · 19/03/2017 22:35

She just seems to be a constant pain and wants special treatment which wales and NI don't ever seem to get.
Nor England.

And why is English devolution never discussed.
