To wonder why England wants to keep Scotland?

Or am I being really thick? NS has been causing no end of grief the past few years always complaining about how bad Scotland has it (despite receiving more money for Scotland than Scotland gives back) also promising English votes for English laws and then changing that when something she didn't like can up. Her financial plan depends on the North Sea oil. If Scotland keeps rights to that it'll last fifty years tops before oil runs out. She just seems to be a constant pain and wants special treatment which wales and NI don't ever seem to get. I do love Scotland but right now I'm inclined to cheerily wave them off and wish the good luck.

And there's always this. This will persuade me to vote for them definately (sarcasm) 😂

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 20:49

And so many IRA ones I can't be bothered to dig them out...

Calyx72 · 19/03/2017 20:54

Gruffalo (hi again) so vote Conservative or Labour or Libdem or Greens. No-one is forced to vote SNP.

Independence isn't just about the SNP or party politics.

But I will vote SNP for the chance of independence

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 20:54

I have said it before and will say it again. Hitler rose to power on the back of national socialism.

ocelot41 · 19/03/2017 20:58

Snap Calyx.

I do think that any party member should be disciplined for anti English remarks, but that doesn't constitute racism. Because it isn't about the colour of your skin.

Redactio · 19/03/2017 21:02

Good point Head. One of the SNPs favourite tricks is claim that the Scotttish people act as one, and that they are the voice of the people.. This is patently not true. Plenty of Scots still vote Conservative, lots are happy to leave the EU, and most at the moment don't want independence.
Over the last few years the SNP have had a golden opportunity to demonstrate how well Scotland could govern itself, the end result would have been more devolution endinffg with de facto independence. They have spurned this opportunity to follow their agenda of grudge and grievance. The demagogue Nicola Surgeon and her husband have made a fortune on the way, paid for by the UK. She will continue to milk the Union for all it is worth, while taking her fellow Scots for a bunch of fools.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 21:03

No just your identity

Redactio · 19/03/2017 21:06

Ocelot - racism isn't just about the colour of your skin, look at the treatment meted out to white jews and gypsies over the years.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 21:07

Exactly

ocelot41 · 19/03/2017 21:09

That's a different way of looking at it Redaction. I guess I would call that antisemitism or Romany discrimination - not racism. But maybe the semantics of the thing don't matter too much. I agree that its unacceptable.

You have an odd understanding then of equality and anti- discrimination legislation.

I have to go through compulsory training as do my employees. If you were one of my employees I would be suggesting it's time for a refresher course if I heard you say that.

‘Race’ includes colour, nationality, citizenship and ethnic or national origins

When you are in a hole, it's better to stop digging.

I have said it before and will say it again. Hitler rose to power on the back of national socialism. Have a wee lie down.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 19/03/2017 21:16

I'm sure the woman who is married to my husband's brother didn't think she was racist when she used to talk about white settlers.

ocelot41 · 19/03/2017 21:23

Thanks for correcting me Lass.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 21:23

Yes and it is very racist.

Have a wee lie down

It is a fact

SaorAlbaGuBrath · 19/03/2017 21:25

This thread has descended into a farce. So far unionists have been labelled as racists, and nationalists have been compared to Nazis, the IRA and ISIS. Never mind independence from the U.K., I'm starting to think living on a desert island away from other humans might be the best option!

PlectrumElectrum · 19/03/2017 21:28

Agreed Saor.

ocelot41 · 19/03/2017 21:32

I think I am off too Saor. I don't really want to get into some heated thing, although I do understand people's concerns about belonging and discrimination. I will consider to read around and listen to all sides on this. It is a very important decision and needs research, time and thought. I continue to be interested in exploring independence as an option.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 21:34

The snp government have been accused with evidence of being pro IRA and anti english fascists. They also do have historical links to the famous nazi party and tried to form a puppet government ( similar to quisling) so it is a bit rich to call english people quislings imho.

See Arthur Donaldson.

SaorAlbaGuBrath · 19/03/2017 21:34

The thing is, I can be diametrically opposed to somebody politically and not be offensive to/about them. Just because I disagree doesn't mean I need to sink to the level that some on here (on both sides) have. And these same people bleat on about the hatred and divisions caused without having a fucking clue it's them who are the problem, not the politics. Ugh.
