To wonder why England wants to keep Scotland?

Or am I being really thick? NS has been causing no end of grief the past few years always complaining about how bad Scotland has it (despite receiving more money for Scotland than Scotland gives back) also promising English votes for English laws and then changing that when something she didn't like can up. Her financial plan depends on the North Sea oil. If Scotland keeps rights to that it'll last fifty years tops before oil runs out. She just seems to be a constant pain and wants special treatment which wales and NI don't ever seem to get. I do love Scotland but right now I'm inclined to cheerily wave them off and wish the good luck.

ItsAll:
The SNP might not directly snipe about England or the English, but their supporters certainly do. Scottish nationalism is underpinned by a racist hatred of the English.

I wonder sometimes if people have really thought through the economics re running duplicate organisations. For example professional organisations overseeing the registration of nurses for example. Scottish nurses would have to fund their own, and neither country gets economies of scale. Furthermore separate countries will gave much less clout with large drug manufacturers naturally leading to higher costs for both countries. I don't see it helping healthcare at all.
I agree. Brexit and this possible independence. Just an absolute field day for bureaucrats and lawyers and big companies. Well it has to benefit someone the usual suspects

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 18:23

It was a dressed to english people not from them

Redactio · 19/03/2017 18:24

Nyx perhaps you should tell Stugeon that, she is going out of her way to make enemies.

Calyx72 · 19/03/2017 18:24

SNP were elected and on a manifesto for Scotref if material change such as Brexit happened. It happened.

Other parties have independence campaigners eg Greens, Labour for Independence etc. It's not just an SNP issue (although I vote SNP even though I don't agree with all their policies, so that we might get independence)

They do speak for those in Scotland who feel as I do.

Redactio · 19/03/2017 18:26

Calyx72 - what percentage of the vote did the SNP get?
If it was less than 50% it doesn't really constitute a mandate does it?

Calyx72 · 19/03/2017 18:26

Gruffalo did the SNP drag us into illegal wars like WM?

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 18:27

When I say we voted to remain I mean in the uk.

The eu referendum was uk wide and we voted to leave.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 18:27

They couldn't but they would if they could 100%

Calyx72 · 19/03/2017 18:28

Redactio - you state SNP supporters hate the English. I am a member of the SNP and I love England and the English. So....

I just want self governance for Scotland and to escape Tory government and Brexit.

Redactio · 19/03/2017 18:29

Calyx - what illegal wars did the Scottish supported Labour Government in WM drag us into?
Just because you didn't support it doesn't make illegal.

Calyx72 · 19/03/2017 18:31

Who said anything about Labour? Blair took us into Iraq of course

Redactio · 19/03/2017 18:31

Calyx read some of the SNP supporting websites like Wings Over Scotland, the racism comes over loud an clear.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 18:32

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/politics/2015/apr/08/nicola-sturgeon-vote-snp-general-election-not-second-scottish-independence-referendum

People who did not expect us to leave europe thought it would be ok.

Redactio · 19/03/2017 18:32

Calyx, would that be the Scottish educated Tony Blair , supported by his Scottish born chancelor?

Calyx72 · 19/03/2017 18:33

Funny but when I mention Wings (well referenced articles re: finances and pointing out flaws in MSM reporting) I'm told I cannot be serious and won't be listened to. Others have been told that too. Wings is an English guy himself FFS.

Calyx72 · 19/03/2017 18:33

I said Westminster. SNP voted against.

Babymamamama · 19/03/2017 18:34

Whisky. I have absolutely no hatred of the scots believe me but if something is repeated over and over it starts to become ingrained. If there was a UK wide referendum you and I would vote the same way. For some reason you are allowed to, but I am not because apparently I would do it out of hatred. Do you see the irony of this
? And why the rest of the UK will tire of NS if they haven't already? I wish no ill on Scotland or Scottish people but if they wish to be separate why should Westminster stand in their way?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/03/2017 18:35

Scottish nationalism is underpinned by a racist hatred of the English.

Interesting, I'm English and in Scotland and I completely disagree with this.

Wings Over Scotland, the racism comes over loud an clear.

I don't see any racism on his site?

Whisky2014 · 19/03/2017 18:36

piglet it's clear from the brexit vote results by area that they are racist. Even TV interviews of the voters stating they didnt want them immigrants coming over here, stealing their jobs and cant speak English. The whole result was based on immigration and no one thought about what the bonus of being in the EU actually meant.

Redactio · 19/03/2017 18:36

Calyx. The WoS guy (Stuart Campbell) is Scottish born and bred, he just lives in Bath. Check your facts.

Redactio · 19/03/2017 18:37

Whisky2014 - over 50% of the English are racist? Get a grip.

Flyingbellycopters · 19/03/2017 18:38

I cannot believe some of the bile against SNP and Scotland here and such blatant misunderstanding of the country, its politics, its people and economy. And a fair bit of misunderstanding for England too especially how Westminster works. It's so depressing.

EnormousTiger · 19/03/2017 18:39

Don't forget Cornwall. An Eu body has said the UK is not doing enough to help the Cornish minority, only 500 people the language and the BBC should put out more programmes in Cornish.

I hope the UK can stay united as one country. The Scots are a good influence in England and we all tend to get on fairly well with each other.

Calyx72 · 19/03/2017 18:39

I don't care where he was born. It doesn't matter. Or Blair or Brown. It's about what you believe in.
