To wonder why England wants to keep Scotland?

Or am I being really thick? NS has been causing no end of grief the past few years always complaining about how bad Scotland has it (despite receiving more money for Scotland than Scotland gives back) also promising English votes for English laws and then changing that when something she didn't like can up. Her financial plan depends on the North Sea oil. If Scotland keeps rights to that it'll last fifty years tops before oil runs out. She just seems to be a constant pain and wants special treatment which wales and NI don't ever seem to get. I do love Scotland but right now I'm inclined to cheerily wave them off and wish the good luck.

Bathsheba- the brexit vote is doing that on a hair thin majority.

AgentCooper · 19/03/2017 15:55

Agree, derxa.

And now we're adding Isis to the fascists? Really? You know, there are quite a few people in Scotland right now who know what it's like to live under a regime where they can't use their democratic rights, where they and their families are in physical danger if they say the wrong thing. Know who those people are?

Refugees.

I taught an Iraqi student a couple of years ago. He was from Mosul. Since ISIS had moved on, he had no idea if his parents were dead or alive. Oddly enough, I don't think he considers living under the SNP to be all that similar.

As I've said before, I was and for now am a No voter. But the level of discussion on here is getting depressingly stupid. If Scotland is so bad, there's always North Korea. Given that we live under a dictatorial regime here anyway, Pyongyang will probably be just like Glasgow but with better weather.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 15:58

The only thing holding her back from making it a reality is westminster

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 19/03/2017 16:00

But the level of discussion on here is getting depressingly stupid

Tbf that is happening on both 'sides' of the debate.

Calyx72 · 19/03/2017 16:01

Agreed Nyx

AgentCooper · 19/03/2017 16:02

I'm not saying it isn't, Piglet. And it's going to get worse if last time is anything to go by.

bathshebaneverdene · 19/03/2017 16:05

NYC, yup, I know, stinks doesn't it. There Is no way a 50.1% (or anywhere close to it) should be allowed to cause so much upheaval. It is very rare for referenda to be carried by such a narrow margin.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a cross remainer, but to me there is still a vast difference between pulling out of a mostly economic and fairly recent
agreement and tearing my country apart.

bathshebaneverdene · 19/03/2017 16:07

Whoops, did it again, computer keeps changing NYK to NYC, sorry.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 16:10

Bathsheba- the brexit vote is doing that on a hair thin majority.

Yes, but europe is not a country the uk is.

Separating a country on a thin majority is a recipe for war.

I'm sorry but that is the reality. You vote yes you are voting for death.

It is as though mentioning it I am being mean. If you look at history it is just a very likely reality. I can't support that and I will be voting no.

We can celebrate being scottish, there is nothing stopping us.

Was the separation of Ireland a pretty sight... and they had something to be pissed off with the uk about. We don't.

bathshebaneverdene · 19/03/2017 16:12

Agentcooper - agree - also annoyed by the ridiculous rhetoric from independence supporters about living under the Westminster jackboot.

Nyx · 19/03/2017 16:12

Gruff, WTF? Seriously? Vote yes and you're voting for death?

Nyx · 19/03/2017 16:13

Bathsheba, I haven't seen any jackboot rhetoric from Indy supporters.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 16:15

Yes it is the reality of separating a 300year union and breaking a country on a thin majority stoked up by divisive and dangerous rhetoric by our fm.

It will not be pretty.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 16:17

There are no examples with thin majority support that have not led to death

It is a reality that I am just pointing out

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 16:19

Follow her blindly if you wish. I will not be.

ny20005 · 19/03/2017 16:23

Gruff really - voting yes is voting for death !! I'm pretty sure that's not on anyone's mandate 🙄

Ireland did have death but that was nearly 100 years ago & mostly caused by British government who outlawed the new Irish government & the political party who won a landslide vote

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 19/03/2017 16:23

there is still a vast difference between pulling out of a mostly economic and fairly recent agreement and tearing my country apart

A point which seems to elude those wailing about leaving the EU. I voted remain. I'm disappointed by the result but leaving the EU bears no comparison to breaking up the UK.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 16:28

It may well not be on the mandate AT THE MOMENT....

It is blinkered to not see that it could be if this continues.

What we're the IRA then? Deaths certainly did not only occur as a result of the British. So you can knock that straight on the head.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 16:29

It is fueling infighting and there is certainly nothing so bad about the union that warrants it.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 19/03/2017 16:29

Norway and Sweden were United between 1814 to 1905.

A referendum on dissolving the union with Sweden was held in Norway on 13 August 1905. It was approved by almost 100% of voters, with just 184 voting against the proposal.

So almost as different as could possibly be.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 16:30

I reiterate that it is my view that voting yes is voting for death.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 16:32

There are no examples in history where this happens peacefully.

It is both blind and stupid to believe that it will.

ny20005 · 19/03/2017 16:34

In your opinion gruff, I disagree

I never said all the death caused in Ireland was due to British government, only that they started it

I'm away to enjoy the lovely Scottish sun with my family, I've had enough of you now gruff

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 16:37

Ok. I hope that if independence is achieved all the death will be avoided.

It is my considered view that it will not.

Enjoy the sunshine.

Thegruffalowswife · 19/03/2017 16:37

It doesn't only shine in scotland Grin
