To wonder why England wants to keep Scotland?

Or am I being really thick? NS has been causing no end of grief the past few years always complaining about how bad Scotland has it (despite receiving more money for Scotland than Scotland gives back) also promising English votes for English laws and then changing that when something she didn't like can up. Her financial plan depends on the North Sea oil. If Scotland keeps rights to that it'll last fifty years tops before oil runs out. She just seems to be a constant pain and wants special treatment which wales and NI don't ever seem to get. I do love Scotland but right now I'm inclined to cheerily wave them off and wish the good luck.

Fuck me there's cliches everwhere. Best of 3 and neverendum. Seriously! All so high and mighty. Oh god!

Headofthehive55 · 18/03/2017 18:46

Er prevailing thought means the general drift of the country. England voted for Brexit. Part of the argument was to reduce people of other nationalities freedom to travel and work here.

Not a great leap to suggest that if you aren't prepared to let a Frenchman here why would you let a Scot?

Whisky2014 · 18/03/2017 18:48

Yes, so insular and backwards.

Whisky2014 · 18/03/2017 18:49

England men and women only please. Ha! Pathetic! The English are racist as cleary seen by the results.

Thegruffalowswife · 18/03/2017 18:49

Please don't be like that hive. I am hoping to come to england. I am so frightened about what is happening here and that probably speaks for at least half of us. Did you read my post above.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 18/03/2017 18:52

@Whisky2014 How about you stop being so goady and grow up.

Whisky2014 · 18/03/2017 18:52

So Hive can you tell me why i should vote to stay if England hate us and we are a leech to society? Its either: "you will get nothing from us if you leave" or "scotland has nothing and wont succeed" so i feel like we cant win?

Whisky2014 · 18/03/2017 18:53

If you have a problem with my posts please report them.

Thegruffalowswife · 18/03/2017 18:54

Whisky I am not racist and am an english person living in scotland. It is the SNP cosying up to fascists at the moment.
Some of my own family have been brainwashed by them and I am terrified.

Whisky2014 · 18/03/2017 18:55

Is it only "brainwashed" because you dont agree?

Thegruffalowswife · 18/03/2017 18:56

I don't agree with any form of fascism no

Thegruffalowswife · 18/03/2017 18:56

My family (some) do and they are affiliated with the snp.

Whisky2014 · 18/03/2017 18:58

Sadly Labour has utterly imploded in Scotland. In Fife - Council decision on their budget recently, Labour Councillors voted with Tory councillors to cut almost 100 teachers and de-fund other aspects of their education staffing budget. The Greens and the SNP are our go-to parties here for social justice, environmentalism and a more modern, consensual way of doing politics.

Toadinthehole · 18/03/2017 18:59

Because none of it is true. English people don't hate Scots, Scottish people don't hate the English, despite the grievances that have been stoked up lately.

Please can people watch their language, and think before they post.

There is of course racism in both England and Scotland. By and large, however, neither place is notably racist compared to the world generally.

Scotland is not a drain on the UK. It just doesn't follow that it would be wealthier if independent. This is not a zero sum game.

NameChanger22 · 18/03/2017 19:02

When they had their last referendum I thought Scotland should save themselves from the evil Tories. Turns out I was right.

Now I think Scotland should save themselves from the evil Tories and brexit. Their situation is infinitely worse now.

I'm not sure where that leaves us in England though; but it can only mean we will be weaker.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 18/03/2017 19:02

Exactly.

Calling a whole nation racist is factually wrong and deliberately inflammatory.

Please be realistic about the evil tories and take a look at who the snp spend their time with. There will be nothing that can save us without the evil tories at the moment.

Headofthehive55 · 18/03/2017 19:05

I am just saying about The lie of the land down here.

I think English people do wish the countries to be in a union, but should they split I don't think they will get any favours.

These issues of travel have to be thought about. It affects more than people who live in Scotland - that's why I'm annoyed that Scottish people living elsewhere are not given a vote.

For example DH would have a Scottish passport. In England you gain your nationality through your father. It's messy. I have children and live in ENgland.

Thegruffalowswife · 18/03/2017 19:06

There are also many IRA supporters and recently they took on a member of settler watch that was a convicted anti english racist.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 18/03/2017 19:06

How much time has NS spent at SNP conference talking about education for example?

Anon1234567890 · 18/03/2017 19:09

So only 1.661 million Scottish people voted to stay in the EU, which means that 2.256 million of the electorate didn't. That's only 42% of the Scottish electorate. Hmmm so not a majority of the Scotland people as NS likes to say.

Should we respect democratic referendums or should we ignore them and push our own agenda?

Hypocrite much?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/03/2017 19:11

Pro-independence parties have a tiny majority in the parliament, you don't seem to be understanding that not everyone who voted SNP

And you don't seem to be understanding that a second referendum was in their manifesto. Yes people may have voted for other reasons, but you'd have to be pretty daft to vote for the SNP (described throughout this thread as a single issue party) if you were utterly opposed to another referendum. They have a strong mandate.

Whisky2014 · 18/03/2017 19:11

Gurffalo - its not an amazing article really is it? Hes friends with so and so on fb and has off the record talk with NS....riighhhtttt. im sure the tories are up to worse and also no party is perfect are they?
Wrt to voters not living in the country...no i think thats fair. Why should they get a vote on how the country progresses if they dont even live there?

Thegruffalowswife · 18/03/2017 19:13

Nobody in their right mind will want to soon.

Headofthehive55 · 18/03/2017 19:16

I don't think there is any bad feeling towards Scottish people in England so I don't think you need worry thegruffalo as you are a fellow countryman. However, should Scotland separate, logically scots would not be.
