To wonder why England wants to keep Scotland?

Or am I being really thick? NS has been causing no end of grief the past few years always complaining about how bad Scotland has it (despite receiving more money for Scotland than Scotland gives back) also promising English votes for English laws and then changing that when something she didn't like can up. Her financial plan depends on the North Sea oil. If Scotland keeps rights to that it'll last fifty years tops before oil runs out. She just seems to be a constant pain and wants special treatment which wales and NI don't ever seem to get. I do love Scotland but right now I'm inclined to cheerily wave them off and wish the good luck.

Do you anticipate freedom of travel its to the rest of the U.K
That will depend in negotiations between Scotland/EU and rUK. But having a passport checked at the border is hardly onerous.

Whisky2014 · 18/03/2017 18:28

The fact is the circumstance significantly changed and we are well eithin our right to have another referendum. The whole "best of 3", "neverendum" childish mentality is pathetic. Its one more because if massive change. That is the final say. Of all the people i know any dont know vote was swayed by that fucking vow.

What was the need for that vow again and what happened to it?

Headofthehive55 · 18/03/2017 18:28

It's the division, the unhappiness within families, that NS obvious doesn't care about. Clearly its doesn't think there was division!

I don't get the "independence" bit either. Scotland is not ruled by England. Both countries are ruled by OUR parliament.

Headofthehive55 · 18/03/2017 18:30

its freedom to work over the border?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/03/2017 18:31

Clearly its doesn't think there was division!

Of course there was division, and still is.

I don't get the "independence" bit either. Scotland is not ruled by England. Both countries are ruled by OUR parliament.

In which, due to our smaller population, Scottish MPs have little or no influence. We are effectively ruled by WM.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/03/2017 18:32

its freedom to work over the border?

Again, that would depend on negotiations between Scotland/EU and rUK.

LagunaBubbles · 18/03/2017 18:32

Mirror the SNP have a mandate for independence, it's no secret, shock or great surprise that they want another referendum. So if people don't want one they shouldnt vote a party in that will do this.

mirrorisnotmyfriend · 18/03/2017 18:34

Pro-independence parties have a tiny majority in the parliament, you don't seem to be understanding that not everyone who voted SNP (who could not manage to get a majority on their own) and Green voted them in on a pro-indy platform. There are many reasons people voted SNP and Green, not all of them to do with independence- perhaps because they felt their local candidate would do the best job for their local community.

However there was ONE reason why people voted No at the last referendum, one reason only, and that was because they wanted to remain part of the UK.

As for 'having your passport checked is hardly onerous'. Honestly. A border, between England and Scotland. Queues of cars either side, having to go through fucking passport control to go even a short distance through a border that is now only marked by a sign. What a sad, depressing future your independent Scotland promises.

Headofthehive55 · 18/03/2017 18:34

Having your passport checked at the border - well it's not that simple if you are from outside of the EU. Visa and long queues I believe.

You have no guarantee of England allowing freedom to move and work elsewhere to further your career.

Whisky2014 · 18/03/2017 18:36

Or we could just mutually agree free movement? Again, stop being so pesimmistic. We will be flying cars soon enough :)

Whisky2014 · 18/03/2017 18:36

Always jumping to the negative unforseen futures. Thats the mentality of No voters. Scared of change.

Headofthehive55 · 18/03/2017 18:37

Yes it would depend on negotiations. Don't forget divorce is rarely amicable.

Whisky2014 · 18/03/2017 18:38

Lol point proven

Headofthehive55 · 18/03/2017 18:39

The prevailing thought in England though is that there should not be freedom of movement. Just saying.

Whisky2014 · 18/03/2017 18:40

Anything can change. Its amazing what people bow down to when they want something that might benefit them.

mirrorisnotmyfriend · 18/03/2017 18:41

I do not think that you will find the rest of the UK willing to be remotely generous to an independent Scotland in the divorce negotiations. In indy fantasy land it will all be super friendly and England will be so keen to help little newly born indy Scotland on its way.

Back in the real world, you will find that UK, as the supremely more powerful partner in the negotiations, will give zero fucks about ensuring that Scotland does well out of the divorce process. They will care only about making sure the rest of the UK exits the relationship with as little damage inflicted to them as possible.

Nyx · 18/03/2017 18:41

Border - is that what happens when visiting the isle of man? Or Ireland from NIreland?

Thegruffalowswife · 18/03/2017 18:41

It is strategically important to keep scotland. Please do not underestimate how infiltrated and extreme the political landscape is up here. You are better off keeping us so you can keep an ear to the ground on what is going on.

I am in scotland and currently scared Shotley at what is happening to scotland at the moment. People are completely brainwashed. Please help us to stay and fgs get rid of holyrood. The SNP are not representing people and their politics is the sort of shit you would expect in the Gambia not the uk.

Have you read this from the telegraph today

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.express.co.uk/news/uk/780829/SNP-shame-extreme-right-activist-Neo-Nazi-sympathiser-Konrad-Rekas-Zmiana/amp

Whisky2014 · 18/03/2017 18:41

And whatever the "prevailing thought" is it means jack shit anyway. It all does until we have a result and negotiations start. Whatever you or i say basically means fuck all.

Nyx · 18/03/2017 18:42

GBs 3rd way is a pile of poo because it will never be enough, NS wants independence nothing less. Its either in or out, same as with the EU.

GB's third way is basically what NS offered TM and was ignored on. Which is why we are where we are now.

Thegruffalowswife · 18/03/2017 18:42

Shotley? Sorry I meant shitless

mirrorisnotmyfriend · 18/03/2017 18:42

'Scared of change'.It's yes voter bingo!

I'm so terrified of change, that's right. Been a while since that desperate cliche was trotted out on here!

You'll be accusing us of scaremongering next, and I haven't heard the words Project Fear for a while...

All useful ways of distracting from the lack of coherent argument on the yes side....

Headofthehive55 · 18/03/2017 18:43

We could singularly decide no freedom of movement. That's the point. We don't have to negotiate with Scotland on that. You could decide freedom of movement coming into Scotland if you want.

Whisky2014 · 18/03/2017 18:43

You have no idea. You just think it will. Lets just wait and see, no? Why be all antsy about it when you have no idea the negotiation results?
PROJECTION. Stop it.

Whisky2014 · 18/03/2017 18:44

"Could". Mhmm
