To get toddler DD's hair cut into a pixie?

tvtate · 11/03/2017 18:53

Is it mean? To make her look like a little boy? She hates her hair being done and there are some really lovely pixie cuts that would work. I have a DS (who was once a toddler!) and his haircut would work on her...

YANBU. Go for it.

Little girls don't all have to look like Rapunzel, regardless of current trends.

WaitrosePigeon · 11/03/2017 18:55

No, I wouldn't.

A short bob will be fine.

witwootoodleoo · 11/03/2017 18:55

Sounds like she'll be much happier with a pixie cut. No need to subject her to long hair that has to be faffed with just because she's a girl.

TheOnlyLivingToyInNewYork · 11/03/2017 18:56

It's only hair, it really doesn't matter. Do what you like. You don't need to advertise that she is a girl via her haircut.

PamBagnallsGotACollage · 11/03/2017 18:56

Not mean at all. Go for it!

IamFriedSpam · 11/03/2017 18:57

YANBU, why not? It'll grow back enough for a short bob fairly soon why put you all through to ordeal of sorting it out while she doesn't even care what her hair looks like anyway.

Winniethepooer · 11/03/2017 18:57

Why make your dd look like a boy??? Confused

Trim, wash, condition & comb the childs hair on a regular basis.

Winniethepooer · 11/03/2017 18:57

Yes its mean!

DaisyQueen · 11/03/2017 18:58

How old is she? If youve shown her pictures of the haircut and she's up for it then of course yanbu. I'm sure there are apps that you can change hair on to give you a rough idea

DorotheaHomeAlone · 11/03/2017 18:58

It's fine if you think it's necessary but I had one as a kid on my Mum's insistence, hated it and hate how it looks in photos of that time. Is there a reason a short bob won't work? They are super cute on kids.

TheOnlyLivingToyInNewYork · 11/03/2017 18:59

How is it mean?
And why is looking "like a boy" such a terrible thing anyway? Hmm

tvtate · 11/03/2017 19:00

Winnie I do that, what makes you think I don't? Hmm she is constantly getting her hair out of her face when it's down and when she has food on her hands/paint, etc. she ends up with it all in her hair. She hates it tied up, she cries when I do it.

Have you sought DD's opinion, shown her pictures etc?

I was given mandatory short haircuts as a young child because long "didn't suit me" and I would cry every time it was cut. It didn't stop my mum from dictating my hairdressing requirements until I was about 12.

To make matters worse, my DSIs who was all of a year older than me always had very long hair and was allowed to keep it that way.

KoalaDownUnder · 11/03/2017 19:01

Why make your dd look like a boy Confused

Females of all ages can have short hair, you know.

CatsRidingRollercoasters · 11/03/2017 19:01

Of course it's fine! Plenty of women have pixie cuts and look fantastic.

Why would it be mean to give your dd a practical, stylish haircut? Are pp worried she'll grow a willy? FFS.

parmavioletmartini · 11/03/2017 19:02

I had one at my mums insistence and until I was 14 I was not allowed anything longer than a bob. I hated it.
She told me it was to make her life easier. I was made fun of constantly. Don't do it. Just brush it, go bob or slightly longer if you must. Your the adult.

tvtate · 11/03/2017 19:02

She's 2, almost 3.

This is one of the few reasons I miss Princess Diana.

Every single little girl has to have long hair now. It's boring and sexist.

tvtate · 11/03/2017 19:04

I love her long hair Hmm I enjoy doing it, why are you assuming I'm too lazy to sort her hair out??? She can absolutely have it longer when she's old enough to not wipe her dirty hands into it when it's in her face or cry when it's tied up and pull it out. It's a nightmare at nursery. Why are you assuming I'll make her have it short the rest of her life? Hmm

tinyterrors · 11/03/2017 19:05

It depends on whether your dd wants short hair or not.

A mum of a girl in my dc's nursery cut her long hair into a short pixie cut because the girl didn't like her hair being tied up. The poor girl refused to take her hat off at school as she hated her hair so much.

If your dd is happy to have it short then go for it. If she doesn't want it long but hates it tied up then put clips in/use a headband to keep it out of her face.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 11/03/2017 19:05

If your dd is in agreement I think it's a good idea. It would be more practical for your dd by the sound of it and much easier to keep clean and tidy.

I'm chuckling at the suggestion that a girl with short hair looks like a boyGrin

Winniethepooer · 11/03/2017 19:05

After 3 dd i have never felt the need to cut their hair off. I just wondered what else you could do.

The point is tbe Op is the one who asked if it was mean to make her dd look like a boy.

How old is your dd Op?

Winniethepooer · 11/03/2017 19:07

Why do irritated Op?

tvtate · 11/03/2017 19:07

How do I get approval off a 2 year old and make sure she is in agreement??

Go for it! I've got a pic of me and my mum when im about 2 or 3 and I have a pixie, it's really nice and I've cut my hair into a pixie twice as an adult. Really quick and easy from washing/drying but need really regular trims to stop the mullet look!
