I've never been abroad, things have just gotten better financially, it's meant booking a few holidays.. I wondered of anyone would care to share what their favourite destination has been?

Nassau in thr Bahamas Smile

ineedwine99 - the Atlantis in the Bahamas has sun, sea, gazillions of pools, kids club, walkable to Nassau town, shopping, the Caribbean's largest casino, etc etc. Part of the hotel is Harborside which has its own enclosed swimming area and a more family friendly vibe. It's self catering so less expensive than staying in the actual hotel. We love it!

Chamonix - Chamonix - Chamonix...... discovered it a few years ago - adore it - amazing views - great for hiking if this was for a summer holiday - I've been back 3 or 4 times a year over the last 4 years and love it in every season - so much we even bought a place there - it's heaven - proper Alpine town not just ski in ski out - so lots to do - mountains are breathtaking...... so close! And only 1 hour from Geneva!

Juan Les Pins.

In terms of travelling rather than package holidays - 3 weeks in cali spending time to get to know San Fran then hiring a car and going down route 1, and also Mongolia trekking were two outstanding places I recommend for adventure.

For package holidays Mexico all inclusive comes pretty high up the list in terms of activities and high standards of service for good value. Even better value deals now cos of zika (if you aren't planning on ttc)

Not read the whole thread so sorry if this has been covered. If you just want a relaxing beach holiday it has to be Benidorm. Ignore the bad reputation. The beaches are lovely, it does have the typical lager lout Brit area. Half a mile upntje road and the old town is lovely and very Spanish. You can get a boat to Benidorm island or Calpe, there's a theme park called Terra Mitica and a water park. There's a lovely market twice a week. Singers, comedians everywhere.

DH and I have travelled a lot and without a doubt South Africa was the best holiday destination we have been too. We drove from Capetown down the Garden route via hermanus, Gansbaii and Mosselbaii to knysna. Then to Stellanbosch via the little Karoo and back to Capetown. We saw Whales, penguins, seals, went on a day safari and saw a whole host of other animals. We stood at the very tip of Africa where the Indian ocean meets the Pacific ocean....we smam with penguins at Boulders Beach and had an encounter with a cheetah. It was an amazing place and we are planning a trip back for next year

Katelios, Kefelonia where we return to every year (yes we do have a last minute booking in September) totally away from it all, an island of 80% returning visitors where you can stop the world and get off it. 11 weeks and 3 days until we go again as I post and counting

I think South Africa has been one of my favourite ever holidays - the Kruger safari was amazing, Cape Town and the beaches were wonderful and the wine, food and scenery was brilliant.

But, I also loved the Maldives, Turks and Caicos and my grandparents lived in Antigua in the late 70s before it became touristy and I remember going there when I was about 4 or 5 and the beaches being beautiful (and empty!).

My most interesting holiday was driving through and camping in what was then Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland and East Germany - though it rained a LOT and we ended up driving south to Italy to get some sun after 3 weeks!!

I also spent my gap year in the US, travelling with a friend. We tried to do every state, but I think ended up doing "just" 43 of them before going to Vancouver and staying with my cousin who was living there at the time - that is an amazing city.

Has anyone said Fiji, beautiful islands, fabulous accommodation for every budget. The people make it, they are always smiling and happy with their lot. Go soon, with global warming/rising sea levels it won't be here forever.

Supernothing22 · 10/03/2017 19:19

Vietnam especially Hanoi

Barbados

ljc7 · 10/03/2017 19:20

Northern Norway, just come back, amazing aurora borealis

Oysterbabe · 10/03/2017 19:24

Barbados, snorkelling with the turtles was amazing. Lovely people and so beautiful.

pandarific · 10/03/2017 19:24

Oh so hard - Vienna was gorgeous. We went around the time of the Christmas markets and it was wonderful. All the lights and walking around the city in the cold exploring, drinking hot chocolate and schnapps... it was so lovely.

I would also say, there is a very beautiful place called barleycove in west cork in Ireland, down on the vey southernmost tip of the island, right at the edge of the Atlantic. There is the loveliest beach with a salt marsh and a tidal river that snakes out of the bay down into the sea. I love it there.

falange · 10/03/2017 19:34

Benidorm. Mock all you like mumsnet but I went last year expecting to hate it and I loved it.

fatimashortbread · 10/03/2017 19:35

Corsica

Jeanneweany · 10/03/2017 20:00

Crete wonderful.
Cornwall
Lytham St Anne's
Tunisia
Cuba

falange · 10/03/2017 20:09

Why do you think saying you like Florida is lowering the tone littlepig?

MaidOfStars · 10/03/2017 20:15

Florida is beautiful. Maybe not Orlando (although it has its own charm) but the beaches man, stunning! And Miami is ace if shooty

Devina · 10/03/2017 20:20

Oh definitely the Maldives! I've been there so many times I've lost count :)

If you are looking for active holidays though, nothing to beat South America - Peru, Costa Rica, Argentina are all amazing!

Rowenag · 10/03/2017 20:34

The Amalfi Coast in Italy was breathtaking and fun. Miami Beach was glamorous and fun. Disney World and Universal Studios in Florida was an amazing holiday. I really enjoyed Rome as a city break and Southern Spain was good as a closer to home holiday too. New York is a must do if you have never been. And finally, for appreciating nature, Australia was really different with loads to do.
