I've never been abroad, things have just gotten better financially, it's meant booking a few holidays.. I wondered of anyone would care to share what their favourite destination has been?

Langkawi (with DD)

Mauritius! I thought it was going to be a relaxing, lie on the beach type holiday, which it could be but it was sooo much more! We went quad biking in the mountains, visited a crocodile park, ports, a nature reserve island where the worlds only rare pink pigeons live. Dodos were originally from Mauritius & sugar cane is grown there.
The kids club in the hotel was the best I've EVER put my kids in. They did glass bottom boat trips, paragliding, banana boats, horse riding, you name it. The hotel we went to was great but isn't there any more.
The mauritanians speak French & they drive on the same side of the road as us in the UK. Food is amazing, weather great, people are friendly. The island is small enough to visit all over & you can hire a taxi & driver for the day for a reasonable price.

On a more boring note Fowey and the Languedoc. We loved the latter so much DH bought the house we rented. We are boring farts though - if having a second home nestling against the Pyrenees is truly boring.

New York, my spiritual home 😍

Depends what you like but I love the hustle and bustle. Big buildings, lots of people, bright lights, music, so many options for entertainment and food and it just. Never. Sleeps. !!

I'm getting all teary reminiscing - need to get away from my boring hum drum life and live like Carrie from S&TC 😭

TheUnicorns · 09/03/2017 00:23

Also big bonus for me is no language barrier and very few customs we don't do or recognise here in U.K.

Washington, Vegas and California are on my bucket list, then I can die happy.

If they weren't such a mess over there I'd be moving like a shot.

Gambia. Paradise. The huge Atlantic waves crashing onto the deserted beach next to our hotel were simply breathtaking. Raw nature at it's best. We were there 27 years ago before many hotels were built - the nearest hotel to ours was a good 30 minute walk down the beach. I close my eyes and I can still hear the sound of the drums. Such lovely, lovely people, a very magical and humbling place and I will go back one day.

SorrelForbes · 09/03/2017 00:49

USA (Hawaii, Chicago, Cape May, New York).

DickToPhone · 09/03/2017 00:50

I was about to post Gambia as well.

You have to be tolerant of pushy 'bum boys' though.

malificent7 · 09/03/2017 00:53

Nepal
Trinidad and Tobago

Although both were more gap yah related than holidays... both stunning.

Also enjoyed Manorca and Ibiza.

80sMum · 09/03/2017 01:11

A 5-week road trip in a motorhome , touring the great national parks of the Western USA. We visited the Grand Canyon (South and North rims), Zion Canyon, the Black Canyon, Brice Canyon, Arches, Natural Bridges, Cedar Breaks, Monument Valley, the Rocky Mountains, Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Yosemiite, Kings Canyon, Sequoia, Glacier, Badlands, Mount Rushmore, Death Valley and many other places in between.

It was a fantastic trip; truly the trip of a lifetime.

GuiltyPleasure · 09/03/2017 01:18

City - New York. I've been several times & always discover something new.
Tropical - Antigua or Aruba.
European - Ibiza (in my youth for the nightlife, now I prefer the quieter resorts & amazing sunsets).
In this country I love the Yorkshire Dales & Whitby (for amazing fish & chips)

Aebj · 09/03/2017 01:39

I have enjoyed
Chicago ( but this was 1993, so would of changed)
Amsterdam ( again along time ago 1992)
Oludeniz , Turkey ( 2000)
Prague as a weekend break ( 2003)
Honolulu ( 2012 but think Australia is better)
Now live in Australia and it's beautiful here. Places to visit if you come here
Cape Le grand near Esperance
Margaret River ( great wine 🍷)
We have driven from Perth across the Nullarbor to Canberra. That was kind of fun!!

New York, Thailand, Cambodia, Italy, Barcelona. Too many great holidays. If you haven't been abroad before I'd recommend starting in Europe...So many great places to go, you can work your way up to the Maldives .

NoArmaniNoPunani · 09/03/2017 04:07

Costa Rica was absolutely amazing.

mmgirish · 09/03/2017 06:42

Burma. Hands down best holiday ever. So much to see and do.

alcin · 09/03/2017 06:50

We are just starting to venture a bit further away now dc are older.

Best so far has to be Lapland - so good I've been twice & in looking into buying a cabin there.

PeterIanStaker · 09/03/2017 06:50

Kauai, Hawaii. So beautiful and relaxing 🍹

Also Lanzarote, which surprises some people.

Eastpoint · 09/03/2017 06:52

Hawaii is beautiful & there was lots to see & do, far more than I'd anticipated. Great diving, volcanoes, fantastic views.
South Africa for a riding safari - amazing seeing giraffes & antelope close up. Safari in a jeep to see lions & elephants was pretty good too.
Indonesia for amazing sea life - diving.
Mauritius with small children, interesting, stunning scenery & very kind people.
Cambodia for historical buildings - Siem Reap
Japan for somewhere completely different to anywhere else.
