I've never been abroad, things have just gotten better financially, it's meant booking a few holidays.. I wondered of anyone would care to share what their favourite destination has been?

Aitutaki in Cook Islands or Tokoriki
Just stunning. It was 10 years ago on honeymoon tho.

Barbara1956 · 10/03/2017 20:39

Driving along the Pacific coast of USA was superb, we did a big circle coming back down through Washington State, Idaho, Utah and Nevada.Closer to home , Greece is always great. For holidays in the U.K. , especially with young children, the Isles of Scilly is a brilliant place, beaches like the Carribean !!

sherazade · 10/03/2017 20:40

Long haul : New York , Florida , key islands
Short haul : Italy/ Swiss border - Lugano

YourDaughterHasATattoo · 10/03/2017 20:49

Borneo was out of this world (honeymoon). Stayed in the rainforest, trekked through the canopy, went to orang utang sanctuary, saw turtles laying eggs, watched them hatch and helped release the babies into the sea, went on many river cruises to see the wildlife including Pygmy elephants, then stayed at sipidan which is built on the reef like the sea gypsys do, spent a week there diving with sharks, turtles and every other form of sea life. Most amazing 3 weeks of my life! Can't wait until the kids are bigger and we can go back! People are amazing (never had customer service like it anywhere)
Maldives is beautiful, if you like lying on a beach or diving. Bit samey, I get a bit bored unless it's activity based!
Thailand is beautiful - hate Bangkok (not a city fan), but Koh Samui and Phi Phi island are amazing as is Chang Mai in the north.
Australia is great, just so much to do there, could visit 100 times and still have something new to do. Darwin is lovely - the wildlife there is fab, live aboard off Cairns diving was great too.
Egypt is brill all round, people there are so warm and friendly. Stay away from touristy areas if you want to see what it's really like. Croatia is stunning, such a contrast with the old city architecture, war damage inland, gorgeous beaches and sea fronts, island hopping and fab people.
I love travelling - miss it quite a lot now, but will get back out there (with my winning lottery ticket!) Grin

Been round the world (literally) so places I've loved;

Singapore (best airport, clean, friendly and shopping good too Grin )
Hong Kong (slightly scary with all those people & stayed in the SARS hotel!)
Cape Town (Table Mountain and seeing where Mandela was incarcerated all those year)
Australia - camping in the outback and listening to wild dingoes, climbing Sydney harbour bridge, holding a baby wallaby, drinking tea from Daintree, snorkling the reef)
Auckland - so far away yet the scenery very reminiscent of home at times
Hawaii - beautiful beaches, cocktails and relax
Canada - the rockies are simply stunning (Peyto lake, athabascan glacier, white water rafting), Toronto is fun as is Vancouver. Edmonton though, meh...it's a large shopping mall and that's about it.
Thailand - hot, lovely people and Thai cooking surrounded by soldiers with machine guns and a South Korean magazine photo shoot!)
Gornogratt switzerland - where hubby proposed
Bryce Canyon (US) - just stunning if you get up early and hike to the bottom
Helicopter over Geand Canyon (front seat by the pilot)
San Franciso - waiting on another boat off Alcatraz as Japanese tourist had died on the island and his body was being transported back with just his wife and crew Sad
Munich - teddy bears and strong schnapps

Paris - pregnant and happy, DDs first holiday abroad
Croatia - first foreign holiday (with Yugotours), returned with DD and did the same trip to Venice and Lipica stud farm (horses).
Vegas - it is what it is and what you make it. Loved the free shows (dancing waters, treasure island and volcano). Lost $10 but took an hour to do so
Seattle - rains a lot but best Phillicheese burger in the world!

Hated the town of Niagara Falls (though the Maid of the Mist was good). Niagara on the Lake is much nicer

Met lots of interesting people from all walks of life and want DD to experience different cultures.

Would love to go to Japan. DH wants to see New York (post Trump though).

DD wants to see Disneyland (any of them). Paris beckons this year but after that...who knows, heard Shanghai is meant to be good Grin

Kiman

We lived in Singapore for four years

GinUrgentlyRequired · 10/03/2017 21:08

Another vote for Costa Rica here. Beautiful country with the most welcoming people. Stunning scenery, amazing biodiversity and a real dedication to conservation. We've been twice, and would love to go back!

HesSpartacus · 10/03/2017 21:08

Quebec and Montreal - beautiful, friendly and fun.
Sumatra - dawn over the paddy fields from a rickety train is the loveliest thing I've ever seen.
Whitsunday Islands, Australia - quiet, white sands, stingrays
Zimbabwe - so many animals, ruins of Great ZImbabwe, and the eastern highlands that look like Scotland. Probably all eaten / trashed by now. Makes me so sad.
Iceland - we loved it, kids loved it. Tip - get a guided tour by super jeep. The locals know so much it's fascinating.

Would love to go to Japan, Sri Lanka and Maldives.

Holidays....I love them!!

Came back from Tenerife!! Amazing place.
Coast £1000 for a family of 4(Higher car,7days in a 1 bed apartment,flights,1 week car park at Gatwick)
We stayed on the south which had temperature highs of 25 and lows of 15 degrees .What a beautiful place! We enjoyed sight seeing, a trip to Loro Parque which was the best Zoo ever! Kids loved every single moment of it....we were there by 0800 and left when it closed.Aqua Land was amazing too...the trip up the mountain was out of this world! Soo beautiful! Crazy tight and steep roads but what an experience...we will deffinately return for a longer duration!
Beaches up North were amazing but a little crowded.Amazing people there!

Cairnes in Australia was good...loved Gold coast!! Beautiful long beaches!
Port Douglas was quaint and cheaper! We self catered.Best outdoor Cinema...lying on massive bean bags munching away as we watched a film....pure bliss!!!
Palm cove was awesome...tiny and quiet.

Egypt was great...snorkelling in the Red Sea with warm currents and cristal blue waters! I loved the trip to bedouin night in the mountain riding camels...DH bollocks were on fire...lol so we went back on quads...so fun! The Egyptians are lovely!
Dissapointed with the trip to Cairo...took too long(8 hrs) From Sham the British Penisula.Visit to the museum was worth it...Hated going down the tombs as there was no order...and had a mini panic attack!! Not good! The Sphinx looks better on pics.Shame the sights are following into disgrace... :( and the pyramids are eroding.

Mombassa Kenya is great..a little pricy but all inclussive in south of Mombassa was great! Lovely cottages and warm clean private beach...amazing food and staff!

6 Days in Rome is all you need...beautiful churches.Vatican is tiny but lots of history! Tne churches are so beautiful inside...the town is a little unkempt with lots of stray cats.Stay in town center and walk everywhere. The sights are closer to each other! Get a portrait done...best ever! Enjoy dressing up in tbe night and go for special dinner!

Iceland! Blue lagoon is a must visit! make a day out of it! Lots of cheap deals on Booking.com

I must stop now otherwise i will write all night!!

Mapenzi · 10/03/2017 21:38

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 10/03/2017 21:55

Zanzibar was without a doubt my fave place, closely followed by the Maldives. Adore Kenya & Cuba is a must.

Halle71 · 10/03/2017 21:56

My current recommendation for an interesting, exotic, family friendly break that doesn't break the bank, would be Sri Lanka.
It felt safe, the people couldn't be more friendly, both in land an dthe coast are stunning, we found out of the way beaches , swam with turtles, ate amazing food and took what is supposed to be the most beautiful train journey in the work from Ella to Kandy.
We did 10 days in a villa with friends, then travelled for 5 days staying in 'cheap as chips' guest houses and a boutique hotel in the hills.

You can travel around cheaply in taxis (our longest journey was 5 hours for £50) which makes everything accessible.

DH is from NZ so we go there every couple of years and also amazing if you can afford the time.

Mazmamm · 10/03/2017 22:01

I loved the Datai, Moose. And hated Vegas.

Mazmamm · 10/03/2017 22:03

I loved Zimbabwe and Zambia Ginurgentlyrequired. Microlighting over Vic falls, amazing.

clarabellb · 10/03/2017 22:07

Thailand - island hopping

Or

India - Kerala (get a driver and stay on a houseboat for at least one night)

Mazmamm · 10/03/2017 22:08

West coast, Sri Lanka
Nelson, South Island NZ
Mount Manganui North island NZ
Byron Bay, Oz - fab for families and close to the Gold Coast.

Get an Air NZ flight to Oz, with some flight deals you get 2-3 free stops via LA (we picked Tahiti, Rarotonga and NZ). Treble the joy!!

clarabellb · 10/03/2017 22:09

Actually...New York and Miami were pretty awesome and I think Norwegian Air are starting cheap flights from U.K.

kateandme · 10/03/2017 22:15

france.wales.europe.but as soppy as it sounds the best holiday will be anywerhe my family make it so

Orangebird69 · 10/03/2017 22:18

Vietnam is amazing. I stayed in Ha Noi, but did a lot of trips/cycling and also a 3 day cruise around Ha Long bay. Just stunning. Amazing country. I could happily live there. Short break wise, I adore Hungary - Budapest is so so beautiful.

tixismum · 10/03/2017 22:29

Dominican Republic by far. Would go every year if I could afford it ♡

HoneyBeeMum1 · 10/03/2017 22:35

I have been to many amazing places all over the world, but nowhere compares with the Outer Hebrides.

The peace, the purity of the air, along with the beautiful beaches and scenery is beyond imagining. There is no where I would rather be.

mumindoghouse · 11/03/2017 00:35

Olu Deniz Turkey
Cornwall

Love both.

Jazzywazzydodah · 11/03/2017 00:36

Cuba, hands down

LoupGarou · 11/03/2017 03:06

Without a doubt Russia. I lived there for a lot of years and I adored it, I would have happily spent the rest of my life there if it wasn't for meeting DH. We still go back several times per year to see friends.

St Kitts, my favourite island in the Caribbean.

Tanzania for a driving safari was absolutely amazing.
