I've never been abroad, things have just gotten better financially, it's meant booking a few holidays.. I wondered of anyone would care to share what their favourite destination has been?

We love Florida.

But we had a great time in Salou. We love theme parks and Port Adventura was the bees knees for us and kicked started the kids love of theme parks.

We had a great holiday to Playa Blanca in Lanzarote.

Morocco
Zanzibar

thehousewife · 12/03/2017 09:34

With DD, we loved Florida.
For relaxing, Mauritius and kefalonia.
One of my favourite holidays was a cruise though, thought it would be crap and I'd hate it, bloody loved every second.
We are doing a California road trip this year.

WaywardOn3 · 12/03/2017 09:40

Mauritius - not the tourist areas. A nice little b n b in a quiet village. Island hopping, scuba diving, walking and sight seeing, plus loads of lovely local food and shops.

Would love to go back :-)

With young children I really recommend camping (Static Mobile homes preferable and available) - but down in the very south of France - there are beautiful beaches- wonderful family friendly parks with facilities galore = so WOW !!!
in the school hols they also have live evening concerts, fireworks displays and so much for your children to take part in - and the swimming and activities are million miles away from anything anyone does in the UK - Center Parks do not come close!! The further south you go, the hotter the weather becomes!! We have been all over France - (with occasional deviants to California and Florida) but there is such a different holiday vibe there than there is here! I definitely would have no hesitation in recommending this as a go to great holiday destination - got the pics to prove it!!

Graceflorrick · 12/03/2017 20:28

libbyb - are you able to give any specific suggestions, it sounds amazing and you've made me want to go Grin

mayhew · 12/03/2017 20:29

South Africa!

Loved Laos, Thailand, sri Lanka and Thailand but was actually a bit bored in the Maldives. I realise how spoilt I sound but 2-3 days would have been fine. It's gorgeous but unless you love snorkelling, diving or just baking on the beach, there's nothing to do or see apart from admire the admittedly gorgeous view. Thailand has the incredible beaches with so much more to do besides.

For city breaks, Prague, krakow, Rome, Venice, Berlin, Budapest, Copenhagen, Vienna, so many amazing cities within a couple of hours flying time.

I'd probably start off with a Greek island if you haven't travelled before. Kefalonia, skiathos, Corfu, Rhodes and Crete are all lovely but I've never had a bad Greek holiday.

Enjoy. Travel is just the best thing. Smile

Fiji

Stunning scenery, lots of activities if you want (diving, rafting, jet ski, waterfall hikes), or so many beautiful islands to relax on if you prefer. But the atmosphere is amazing, I've be st been somewhere so laid back and happy. And Fijians were some of the nicest, friendliest and most genuinely warm people I've ever met. I still close my eyes and imagine dining on a beach, fresh seafood while the staff sing and play guitar beautifully!

Epic flight but soooo worth it. I'd go back in a heartbeat if I could

Lemondrop09 · 12/03/2017 21:05

My second favourite place in the world is totally different - Orlando! We love Universal Studios, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is my 'happy place'.

I'd also highly recommend Cambodia. Much preferred it to Thailand.

Figgygal · 12/03/2017 21:13

Sri Lanka and Borneo were something else
Love turkey too though met dh there

BeaverLasVegas · 13/03/2017 09:29

Agree with Della, the Alps in summer are fab.
Morzine in the French Alps, in the summer, a few years ago was brill. We took ski lifts up mountains and hiked, got a bus ride from Les Gets around the mountains, hired a pony for an hour with the kids, high ropes in the trees for the kids, great outdoor pool complex, swam in and canoed on Lake Mondriand, Avoriaz Centre Parcs-type pool complex and a mad luge race down the mountainside. Tourist office puts on various free events in the summer; we stayed in an apartment overlooking the central square which was noisy at night but exciting.
Check out en.morzine-avoriaz.com but at the moment is geared up to skiing so might be better in a few months time - take a look at Summer Activities to get an idea.

JungleInTheRumble · 13/03/2017 09:51

Margaret river region of Australia is my favourite holiday destination. We always have an amazing and relaxing time when we go there.

Second what someone said about a cruise as well! I thought it would be a bit naff but it was fantastic!

Cambodia I found too hot and definitely wouldn't want to spend more than a long weekend there.

joanopie · 13/03/2017 09:53

Hawaii without a doubt

roseteapot101 · 13/03/2017 10:14

to be honest the best holiday i have been on was a simple trip down the by the sea in Weymouth.I know it was self catering but we still ate out at nice places, enjoyed the simple summer weather and had the most lovely time exploring. Abbotsbury tropical gardens are absolutely beautiful.

I have been abroad san fransico was a lot of fun and Boston in the usa was great round christmas. But some of my best memories are a English summer were its not over bearing heat with lovely sunshine

Deidre21 · 13/04/2017 20:02

Maldives and Thailand (stayed at the same hotel company and that's what helped make the holiday in both places the best) Maldives is divine as a destination such a beautiful place.

Rainydayspending · 13/04/2017 20:07

NZ. Fantastic place, very diverse choice of things to do and see. A long way to go if you're after a beach holiday though.
Also good old Cornwall (just after the summer season).

tabbymog · 13/04/2017 23:17

The Cevennes, France. High limestone plateaux, deep gorges, lots of white water, fabulous cave systems with guided tours, amazing sunsets. Really, really wild and woolly. Great hiking. This is getting as far away from it all as I think you can get in France. Wonderful. Rent a gîte, shop in the village market. Ferry crossing Portsmouth/Le Havre is best, south past Orleans down through central France, climbing up into the Auvergne feeling the air getting crisper all the time. French autoroutes are really good for children, the services are about every 15km, sometimes just a play area and a drinking tap, sometimes full service, usually something in between.

Another bit of France, but further away – Reunion. A lot like the Maldives but speak French. Great beaches, surfing and scuba diving.

littlepeas · 13/04/2017 23:29

Vancouver Island - particularly Tofino.
Sri Lanka (went to maldives too, on the same trip, but found it a bit dull)
Mauritius is my favourite of the Indian Ocean destinations (although haven't been to the Seychelles) - lovely, vibrant culture, beautiful place - we went with smallish dc, it was fab. Think we are going to road trip around California next summer (Mexico this year). Spain, France, Italy and Greece also have lots to offer if you choose your destination carefully.

I really want to go to Hawaii, South America in general tbh, but particularly the Galapagos Islands, New Zealand - I've been precisely nowhere in South East Asia and really want to. The world is huge and amazing - you can't go wrong really.

Thattwatoverthere · 13/04/2017 23:57

God I want to go on holiday after reading all of that!! I haven't travelled much but mine are;

Ibiza - not just a party place, it's beautiful
Majorca - mainly Palma or surrounding beach resorts
Dubai - went with my mum but could see the romantic potential if with a partner. Much a concrete city (the bits I saw anyway) but so luxurious
California - did road trips there when I was younger and not all that appreciative but would love to go back now I'm old enough to take it in better

trixymalixy · 14/04/2017 00:01

Hotel botanico San Lazaro on the amalfi coast. Would love to go back.
