I've never been abroad, things have just gotten better financially, it's meant booking a few holidays.. I wondered of anyone would care to share what their favourite destination has been?

wheatchief I totally understand your viewpoint and honestly I don't think I could handle more than 5 days for a beach holiday either. But at the same time I have always dreamed of having one of these romantic private island getaways once in my life - DH and I got married last year but haven't had chance to travel on a honeymoon until now due to his work commitments. So I'm very excited to go to the Maldives.

Usually I would prefer a city break too, especially with DH as he likes to explore and be active when travelling. But as I'm now pregnant and easily exhausted, I think a beach chilling holiday is exactly what's needed! DH is planning to pack his PlayStation in case island life is just too dull for him anyway 😂

I've loved Iceland and Lisbon.
Also a city break in Paris exceeded expectations.
Greece is lovely.
Anywhere with good weather, scenery and food. So much choice

bruffin · 09/03/2017 18:28

Waffling why are you surprised about Californian?
For Yosemite alone its a wonderful destination, we also loved San Francisco and San Diego

WafflingVersatile · 09/03/2017 18:35

No, it's good. I'm always looking for new places to go. Will have to look into California now.

Charter holiday: Sozopol, Bulgaria

Travelling holiday (by which I mean travelling round for a longer perio) it's a tough call between Oz and USA. Both beautiful dramatic scenery, great modern cities, quaint rural towns, not stressful, great food.

Flucker · 09/03/2017 18:50

I absolutely love Crete and some of the other Greek islands for a short haul break.

I did Orlando last year but only for a week - we had an amazing time and saw lots and I'd be back there in a flash. If I had to choose between the theme parks then universal wins hands down!

Angela0413 · 09/03/2017 18:53

Borneo was amazing - we did 3 weeks travelling around the north. There's mountains, beaches, jungle! Seriously has everything was amazing - flight wasn't that expensive and cheap as chips when you're there.

Closer to hope Cape Verde great for winter sun,

Greek islands - kefalonia is our fave.

Majorca / Ibiza great for families

Antigua fave carribean island for chilling, Jamaica really fun for doing stuff

Recently got back from Mauritius which was beautiful.

Literally world is your oyster! If you've never flown before though maybe try short haul first!

MyPatronusIsABadger · 09/03/2017 18:56

Tioman, lovely beach/hiking/scuba holiday

EnglebertSlaptyback · 09/03/2017 19:02

Oh costa rica is stunning. We only stayed in one location, but it was just everything we wanted for our honeymoon. It has been our favourite holiday, even coming second to Canada (Whistler) where we got engaged! Both beautiful.

howrudeforme · 09/03/2017 19:06

South Africa. Go Cape Town, then cat safari - the contradictions in that country are breathtaking.

loveka · 09/03/2017 19:06

Paxos, an island off Corfu. Specifically Loggos, a tiny village with a beautiful harbour, fabulous restaurants and 2 bars with the best views over the sea.

Eolian · 09/03/2017 19:07

New Zealand, Rome, Amalfi Coast.

Elendon · 09/03/2017 19:11

I forgot the Azores, on the way to Cuba as a 13 year old. To be honest, I wasn't in the best of moods but Cuba (brief glimpse of the capital and onto a house) was great because of the local people who worked to provide us with great meals. (I'm uncomfortable admitting to this).

I like my islands. I want to go to Iceland.

bertsdinner · 09/03/2017 19:21

I love the Mani area of Greece, the Peloponnese. It's got fantastic ancient sites, cities, churches with medieval wall paintings, and beautiful scenery. I love Greece full stop, it's never let me down. Crete is lovely too. I like the old city of Rethymnon.
In the UK, I liked Northumberland, I'd like to go back.
I also have a soft spot for Peurto Del Carmen on good old Lanzarote. I love the beach, clean and goes on for miles.

Frazzled2207 · 09/03/2017 19:22

Safari in Kenya. Absolutely out of this world.
For a city stay you can't beat Hong Kong. Though Barcelona, Boston and Washington DC are great too.

MuseumOfCurry · 09/03/2017 20:06

We had such a memorable family holiday in Washington DC

We also had the most amazing time in Taormina & Prague.

I basically live for our holidays.

bogofeternalstench · 10/03/2017 13:11

Croatia has been my favourite destination so far. Especially the Plitvice Lakes national park & staying in Dubrovnik old town. It's a gorgeous country.

I went to the Maldives on honeymoon and whilst it is truly beautiful and I'm very glad I went, honestly I was a bit bored and it was too hot for me. I wouldn't go again.

Top of my wish list are Argentina and Iceland, but at the moment a weekend in Whitby is out of my league so I shall continue to dream.
