I'm a nervous wreck right now Sad

Will it replace sex as a protected characteristic? Does that mean that women will have no legal protection at all?

I'm scared Sad.

Read this link. Just five minutes out of your time. If you still think the same, come back and let me know.

Genuine transwomen ? Who decides that then and how? Trans women who look acceptably 'feminine'? Trans women who wear a badge clearly stating that they are verified trans?

I give up. This thread has led to me posting a couple of things that I regret and that's not good. I also feel really sad about the way that some people think. I've said all that I want or need to say.

DianaMemorialJam · 09/03/2017 12:52

Datun maybe it is easier to deny it and put ones head in the sand. After all, if that's the stance of the CPS what hope is there. I'm so angry after reading that.

Good. Ta ta.

WankingMonkey · 09/03/2017 12:53

I don't get how a 'feeling' can be a protected characteristic at all if I am honest. 'Gender identity' is not something that you can see, that can be proved, measured, anything. As such, this makes no sense to me at all.

I couldn't agree more. Which is why sex is the only defining factor in segregation issues.

DianaMemorialJam · 09/03/2017 12:55

Because Monkey we live in the era of 'feelz'.

I feeeeeellllllzz it.

Post truth kool Aid sippin 2017 people.

CharlottaBronte · 09/03/2017 12:57

there is a petition here [never heard of the site though] citizengo.org/en-gb/pc/41304-say-not-dangerous-gender-identity-bill?tc=tw&tcid=33345637

VestalVirgin · 09/03/2017 12:59

Because Monkey we live in the era of 'feelz'.

And because the people with the womanfeelz are males and we live under patriarchy.

What an actual woman feeeelz like still is of no interest to anyone. See hereditary titles.

CharlottaBronte · 09/03/2017 13:00

I've read that link now. Unbelievable. Angry

Notmyname321 · 09/03/2017 13:02

Good. Ta ta.

And people still deny that dissenting voices get driven off these threads.

Iris65 · 09/03/2017 13:02

Just one more thing:
Someone asked about the data regarding violence against trans people.

'A conservative estimate, based on the information we do have, however, shows that transgender women face 4.3 times the risk of becoming homicide victims than the general population of all women.' From hrc-assets.s3-website-us-east 1.amazonaws.com//files/assets/resources/HRC-AntiTransgenderViolence-0519.pdf

Read the report and weep at where attitudes similar to those expressed on this thread end up. And no, its not about 'feelz'. Its about basic humanity.

DianaMemorialJam · 09/03/2017 13:03

Word.

Notmyname321 · 09/03/2017 13:03

The trouble with that petition and suggested letter is this:

Firstly, it seems to undermine equality before the law and gives those with “protected characteristics” – in this case, people’s “gender identity” – a special status and protection that the rest of us, who do not have a particular “protected characteristic” are not entitled to.

We all have protected characteristics in terms of both race and sex.

Forgive me for not wanting to converse with somebody that doesn't see a problem with penises in female changing rooms and refuges.

Hmm
Iggi999 · 09/03/2017 13:05

I do not know the answer to this so it's a very genuine question. What proportion of transwomen are involved in sexwork, and what proportion of women are? Are those figures even possible to come by? Maybe easier for one country rather than globally.

DianaMemorialJam · 09/03/2017 13:05

Because .... because...

Fuck knows Bev.

amispartacus · 09/03/2017 13:09

What proportion of transwomen are involved in sexwork, and what proportion of women are

I should imagine that some transwomen do go down the sex work line for many reasons. Finding themselves unemployable, needing money, being homeless etc.

And there are also plenty of men who do fancy transwomen and will pay for sex work. If you need money, people will often do what they can to get it.

VestalVirgin · 09/03/2017 13:10

IF WE VILE WOMEN ARE MURDERING THEM IN DRIVES WHY DO THEY WANT TO SHARE OUR LOOS?

No idea, Bev. No idea at all.

Especially since it is the violent "TERFs" they are so afraid of that they must threaten them with rape. Not males.

You'd think the TRAs would feel safer in the men's loos, all things considered.

CharlottaBronte · 09/03/2017 13:12

It just seems baffling that women are all saying, we are keen to protect the rights and safety of trans people, but transwomen, when we say, we won't feel safe if any man can 'identify' as a woman, and still be biologically a man, and come into safe female only spaces, get very angry with us. It is just utterly utterly baffling. Can they not appreciate, at the very least, that by merely self identifying as a woman, any man can access female only spaces and this is open to massive abuse?

MiddleagedManic · 09/03/2017 13:14

I wish I wanted to be female as much as trans women do
I love this!

VestalVirgin · 09/03/2017 13:14

Yes, and men who use prostitutes often kill prostitutes.

I would like to see one of those "murder of transwomen" statistics with the factors prostitution and being gender-non-conforming calculated out.

Butch lesbians are probably murdered at higher rates by violent males than gender-conforming women, too.

And considering how many women are murdered by violent males each year, I seriously wonder how, if transwomen are only such a tiny percentage of the male population as is often claimed, how the fuck there are any left with such high rates of murder AND suicide.

MercyMyJewels · 09/03/2017 13:14

I also think court is the only way to sort this.

I'm fucking RAGING today, especially being patronised by fucking handmaidens telling me I must make way.
