I'm a nervous wreck right now Sad

Will it replace sex as a protected characteristic? Does that mean that women will have no legal protection at all?

I'm scared Sad.

Yes Onion that's right.

YANBU, and I will go to prison rather than go along with this bullshit. If I want a female/woman doctor or rape crisis counselor I will ask for one, and I will specify 'not a trans woman'.

OnionKnight · 08/03/2017 20:40

Fucking hell Shock

TheWorldAccordingToToads · 08/03/2017 20:40

I think you need to calm down.....

No I will not calm down.

Nor will I STFU about this.

Onion, yes. But because women are less strong than men and far, far less likely to be violent, statistically, it's likely to be more of a problem for women than for men.
Also, unbelievably, they're keeping an exception for hereditary peerages and estates, so if you're an older daughter of a peer and you transition to male, it won't matter, your brother will still inherit the money and titles.
It's pretty disgustingly sexist really.

ollieplimsoles · 08/03/2017 20:42

I still cant get passed a man saying he 'identifies' as a woman because he 'always felt like a woman'... But you have never been a woman, you don't know how it 'feels' Hmm

GeillisTheWitch · 08/03/2017 20:43

It scares me as the mother of a daughter how backwards our society is becoming on women's rights. We should all be kicking up a fuss about this. I don't want people with male genitals in women's changing rooms with me or my daughter.

SmileEachDay · 08/03/2017 20:43

Is that right Countess?

That adds a fresh new level of what the fuckness...

TheWorldAccordingToToads · 08/03/2017 20:43

Let's just say this law is passed and it replaces sex.

It means that your frail elderly mother or father wouldn't be able to ask to be bathed by someone of the same sex. They could only request someone who identifies as a man or a woman but might not necessarily be a man/woman.

Are you really okay with that? Really now?

OnionKnight · 08/03/2017 20:43

I am fairly supportive of trans issues but this is taking it a step too far, if it can even be called a trans issue.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 08/03/2017 20:44

YANBU. It's bloody terrifying.

Anyone concerned (and you all should be) please please please write to your MPs.

Those not bothered about it - are you happy for a male to share a shower space at your gym or swimming pool? If you object and speak out about it you'd potentially be committing a hate crime

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/03/2017 20:44

'It scares me as the mother of a daughter how backwards our society is becoming on women's rights.'

Yes, precisely.
I have a daughter and two sons and I weep for my daughter and the freedoms I have that she won't.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 08/03/2017 20:44

Or happy with a male carrying out your smear test when you request female? Because he self identifies as a woman?

These are very real possibilitiea

BenLinusatemyhomework · 08/03/2017 20:45

NO WAY! TheCountess I suppose you're in a position to know, I did not know that about hereditary peerages. Tells you all you really need to know about this agenda.

FlossieFrog · 08/03/2017 20:45

Has anybody actually seen the wording of the bill or know its contents? It doesn't seem to have been published yet. services.parliament.uk/bills/2016-17/genderidentityprotectedcharacteristic.html

TheWorldAccordingToToads · 08/03/2017 20:45

Can someone who understands more about this help me?

That is what this new bill means, right? Sex will be replaced with gender ID. That's how I understand it. Someone please tell me I'm wrong Sad

OP posts:
CherryChasingDotMuncher · 08/03/2017 20:45

Does anyone know when the bill is being 'heard' or whatever the correct term is?

FannyFifer · 08/03/2017 20:46

This is utter fucking madness.

ToastVacuum · 08/03/2017 20:47

Can I identify as my MP to vote against it?

FlossieFrog · 08/03/2017 20:47

Cherry second reading is tabled for 24 March.

OnionKnight · 08/03/2017 20:47

I'm thinking about all of the embarrassing invasive procedures that I could go through as a bloke and obviously I'd be more comfortable with a male doctor or nurse etc so the fact that it could be a female doctor doing it is worrying.

Obviously this applies to women too.

Fucking hell.

TheWorldAccordingToToads · 08/03/2017 20:48

But it's gender identity. That still means that anyone could say "I'm a woman" and that will have to be accepted and you couldn't challenge it. Even if they had a dick and full length beard.

Please tell me I'm wrong Sad

OP posts:
TheWorldAccordingToToads · 08/03/2017 20:49

Can I identify as my MP to vote against it?

That actually made me Grin Toast.

Thanks for cheering me up a bit Smile

CaptainBrickbeard · 08/03/2017 20:49

So when may this bill be passed and is there anything more than writing to our MPs that can be done about it?

refusetobeasheep · 08/03/2017 20:49

Nobody can tell you you are wrong yet as the text has not yet been released. Once it has then this discussion can take place.
