I'm not actually surprised at the genetic testing thing.

I used to do a bit of family history, but in the last few years I've completely scaled back how much material I share with anyone who might publish it (all these Share Your Tree buttons on the genealogy websites).

What might happen to that data has gone from a very theoretical question to a very real and current one. Ancestry now sells genetic testing "to find your ancestral makeup and family matches." But they keep the data and, if you've used the same account, can match it to your tree.

There's already at least one example of the police getting a warrant to use this data: www.legalgenealogist.com/2015/05/03/facts-matter/

Whilst that one case seems to have been conducted appropriately, I'm pretty sure this is the start of various organisations mining the combined genetic and family tree data in ways which will not turn out well for the Us, The People.

I liked Kate McKinnon's Jeff Sessions very much & that joins MelissaSpice in the pantheon of great Trump administration send-ups, though she seemed to be on the verge of corpsing the whole way through the sketch.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 10/03/2017 20:38

Pausing Shock I considered doing one of those genetic tests for DH for a laugh at Christmas, as he's notoriously difficult to buy for.

In a similar vein (tin foil hat donned), I always wonder whether they store those heel prick samples they take of every baby in the UK. That would be such an easy way to build up a complete genetic database of UK-born nationals.

Apologies for that off topic riff there.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 10/03/2017 20:39

That post should also have included 'newborn' - the tests are taken on the maternity ward.

cozie you mean about Flynn? Well, the person that notified him has spoken out that he notified Pence about Flynn months ago.

So @POTUS makes it known that he holds important meetings with foreign leaders at Mar-A-Lago, then raises the cost of joining. Hmmmm….

Guests at Mar-A-Lago brag about being close to action, post photos of guy with nuclear codes. It is quite literally $$$ for access to @POTUS
.@POTUS says he paid for hosting Shinzo Abe at the Mar-A-Lago. Maybe. But undoubtedly far less than he’s profiting from the increased dues.

Every major news outlet reports on Trump's meetings – and mention Mar-A-Lago. Trump also gets free press for his hotel on America's dime.

Trump used Mar-A-Lago dining room as open air Situation Room to discuss response North Korea missile launch. Still sounds crazy to type out!

This is just one property, one project, one ethical quagmire. Conflicts exist w/ practically every Trump family property. Wake up @HouseGOP.

Many of these conflicts put the President in direct conflict with the Emoluments Clause. See @tribelaw analysis: www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/dec/19/donald-trump-violate-us-constitution-inauguration-day …)

Because @POTUS is a walking, talking violation of the Emoluments Clause, profound questions arise that the Clause was meant to avoid, like:

Did China finally grant trademarks to Trump family after ten years, because @POTUS agreed to the "One China" policy?

Did @POTUS exclude certain countries from his Muslim ban because the Trumps are seeking or have real estate deals there?
Is the President putting America first, or the Trump family fortune?

Apparently Geoff Sessions has asked 46 US attorneys to resign - seems to be acceptable practice as they are political appointments.

The US seems a strange country - surely the attorneys should be apolitical and only following the law?

cozietoesie · 10/03/2017 21:24

Well in North Korea, they might not even get the chance to resign!

AcrossthePond55 · 10/03/2017 23:15

Whenever I read the way the Trump administration changes its stories from what they originally asserted I'm reminded of a clip I saw of Trump when he was fighting the wind turbines in Scotland. I don't remember who he was speaking to (a court?) but someone said "If you could just provide us with some evidence of your assertions...." and he interrupted with "I AM the evidence!!!!".

Everything they do and say is based on the fact that they all believe they have the right (and ability) to change the narrative at will. And that when they do, we are all supposed to immediately accept the new narrative and forget we ever heard the old.

I'd laugh if it weren't for the fact that it appears that they're succeeding with many ordinary people AND many people in power.

TheClaws · 10/03/2017 23:20

Ginger Thank you for posting the summary from @RepAdamSchiff. Puts things into perspective, doesn't it?

TheClaws · 10/03/2017 23:25

BTW, I have a theory: @roguePOTUSStaff is Spicer.

None of the tweets take aim at Spicer; they all come from someone with access to the inner circle; the latest ones are visibly frustrated that the press didn't take advantage of a supposed slip-up that Spicer made.

Given the account is legit, of course Grin

Yep, I remember, cozie. Looks like this Administration's attitude is more 'drink the Kool-Aid' than 'forget the chocolate' though.
