And yet, these oh so 'religious' insurance companies who feel it's morally reprehensible to pay for contraception will gladly pay for Viagra!

If God has decided that it's time for me to get pregnant and it would be a 'sin' to pay for pills to contravene that, then doesn't it stand to reason that the same God has decided that it's time for a given man's penis to stop working and it would be a 'sin' to pay for a drug that would give him an erection? Hmmm? Well, answer that, religious right! Idiots.

There really is just too much going on. Trump's general insanity, Russia, Wikileaks/CIA, ACA repeal, the silencing of the MSM. It almost seems like a concerted effort to overload the US public into 'psychological numbness'. We can't let it happen. We need to speak and keep speaking! Choose one issue if you can't keep up on everything, but learn it and speak!

I feel sure that my friend @RandPaul will come along with the new and great health care program because he knows Obamacare is a disaster!

AcrossthePond55 · 08/03/2017 00:25

It's as if he sees his twitter feed as the only true source of real news - the horse's mouth, so to speak - and anything else is not to be trusted.

That is it in a nutshell Claws. He feels that he should be the only source of information. Not because he feels everyone else is 'fake news', but because he only wants us to know what he wants us to know. He doesn't want his plans or his beliefs to be questioned. What's the best way to do that? To stifle any information outlet that might point out inconsistencies or lies.

In essence, his answer to any questioning of him, his methods, or his agenda is that old parental nutshell paraphrased; "Because I'm the President and I said so, that's why!!!"

cozietoesie · 08/03/2017 00:36

Elected in the 'sacred' election, no less.

I'd so like to know what kind of torturous and twisted justification would be given for that blatant hypocrisy!

cozietoesie · 08/03/2017 00:57

And him, his methods and his agenda are about to be sorely tested, I suspect. He's not the only person with an..........interesting mindset.

Keep calm, Across. Just keep thinking '2018' to yourself.

TheClaws · 08/03/2017 01:29

What is he talking about in that latest tweet? Who is @RandPaul?

cozietoesie · 08/03/2017 02:06

I assume the Senator? He's wooing him at the moment. Wink

TheClaws · 08/03/2017 02:19

Yuck. Wooing.

Does Rand Paul require wooing? Because that tweet is more embarrassing for him, I'd have thought. It could have the opposite effect that DT intended.

TheClaws · 08/03/2017 02:22

Fox News: the state of Hawaii has announced it is challenging the new travel ban. (This links through to a tweet with a video from the Tucker program.)

Both Martina's twitter account and the gelded horse have made me feel better today.

Rand Paul has apparently been complaining that the new plan is too close to Obamacare.

CaveMum · 08/03/2017 06:19

Across you speak a lot of sense on the contraception/viagra issue.

Reminds me of a line from the West Wing when someone (I think Toby) rebukes representatives of pharmaceutical companies in a meeting about lowering drug prices in Africa by saying "There's more money in giving a white man an erection than curing a black man of AIDS."

CussingQuim · 08/03/2017 07:02

Wow. Trump's supporters think the CIA stuff vindicates him in every way and shows Obama as an ultimate evil mastermind.

(Twitter etiquette question for anyone who knows - if you've been off for a few days do you still reply to someone's tweets from a few days ago? Or would that be weird?)

How much of that CIA list stands up to scrutiny/is backed up by wikileaks? It reads as heavily 'editorialised'.

Also, does wikileaks ever spill the beans on other foreign powers, or is it solely US focussed?

Pieces of Trump dossier check out despite investigative dearth
Rachel Maddow notes that while the dossier of intelligence about Donald Trump ties to Russia remains unconfirmed, pieces of it have checked out upon investigation by the press, though the primary government investigators are former Trump campaign officials. Duration: 22:36

I went viral about a year ago..Daily Mail and everything, I still get replies to the tweet and retweets. I do think that's strange.

BiglyBadgers · 08/03/2017 08:39

Also, does wikileaks ever spill the beans on other foreign powers, or is it solely US focussed?

They are primarily US and UK but have also released leaks from other countries as well. They are not solely about government but also released information on business and hacking groups. I don't know how well known they are abroad and if there are other sites that host leaked information for other countries. You can see everything on their website wikileaks.org

On the subject of wikileaks...

Wikileaks is not a hacking organisation as suggested by a tweet published earlier. They publish leaked information that is given to them. In the case of this CIA data the story is that it was leaked to wikileaks by a contractor. This is credible, remember Snowdon was a contractor, they can have access to very sensitive and confidential information. Why the contractor chose to share this information with wikileaks is a other question. Perhaps he is a Trump supporter, maybe he was paid by someone, or perhaps like Snowdon he saw this information and felt it needed to be shared with the wider world.

Why did wikileaks chose to publish it? Well that is what they do. Only wikileaks knows if they have information they have chosen not to publish, but on the face of it I find it hard to imagine that wikileaks could not put this out once they have received it. Their credibility would be decimated if it ever came out they held back information like this.

Is wikileaks a Trump/Russia tool? Again, who could know (or would want to know) the inner workings of the mind of Assange, but my personal view is that just because we see sides in this business and want to put people on either our side of Trump's side we should not assume wikileaks is working to the same principle. I suspect they have their own sides and their own agenda that may align with Trump/Russia but could just as easily not. It is certain that Trump/Russia are more than happy to make use of wikileaks when it suits them and timing does suggest that they may have had a hand in leaking this information to wikileaks, and at the very least are dancing a little jig about it right now.

SanFranBear · 08/03/2017 09:20

Did anyone else see the Republican senator on BBC 100 Days last night trying to defend the new health reform. He kept saying that Obamacare was failing and when the presenter challenged him he was a blustering mess.

Worrying - as we've discussed many times, they don't have a credible replacement. They just state ACA bad Angry

amispartacus · 08/03/2017 09:37

Yes. The idea that if you keep repeating something, it must be true.

Obamacare is broken.

PausingFlatly · 08/03/2017 09:39

"It is certain that Trump/Russia are more than happy to make use of wikileaks when it suits them"

^^This.

Also, if a party like Russia is using Wikileaks for its own purposes, it can do a mixed plant of info: some true, some fake. The true and verifiable stuff gives a veneer of credibility to the fake.

And if the fake gets spotted... Well as someone described on an earlier thread, it's all about polluting the well of knowledge so that there are no facts any more. It reduces our trust in ALL information and loosens our grip on fact-based decision-making, leaving us paralysed by indecision and ripe to be steered by emotions and personalities.
