Do you know me?

I've been here for a looong time. I namechange regularly now after being quite spectacularly outed in rl.

Dh reckons I'm still very obvious despite name changes. As in, family and friends would recognise me and all the many MNers I know in real life will instantly know it's me.

So here's an experiment. This name is fairly fresh and I've only posted a bit. Do you recognise me? Should inbe much more circumspect? And is it a bad thing if I'm recognisable, really?

No again unborn sorry.

MichaelSheensNextDW · 05/03/2017 00:52

I think I recognise you; you have a niece who was preggerz?

ChrissyHynde · 05/03/2017 00:55

Don't look at names

UnbornMortificado · 05/03/2017 01:14

It's going to drive me mad now. I'm normally okish at getting these right. I should be the amount of time I waste spend on here.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 05/03/2017 01:23

I'm not very anonymous but no one in RL is on MN (I don't think) and my MN friends don't really know me in RL either in spite of loads of meet ups.

If someone wants to AS me and go to all that trouble, well let them. Don't give a fuck.

Although I would like to know who you are, OP Grin I have a couple of guesses but I don't think I'm right.

IvorHughJarrs · 05/03/2017 01:25

Not a clue, although I have to say I think MN would be a better place if more people stopped trying to be known and didn't give a shit who was who

The only person I have consistently recognised over the years is Xenia, in all her new incarnations. I love that woman Grin

NoYouAreASnowflake · 05/03/2017 03:21

LOL, say hi from me :)

BathshebaDarkstone · 05/03/2017 06:05

I really wouldn't recognise anyone at all! I've always liked the anonimity of this place and the lack of familiarity. I can't believe so many people have recognised you in a forum with thousands of posters! You do have a funny, dry style though Grin

mygorgeousmilo · 05/03/2017 07:55

I sometimes get a spark of familiarity when I see certain usernames, but could never match their posts with names or vice versa. They've all blurred into one. Sometimes when chatting with other parents, one of us will say "oh yes, there was a thread on mumsnet about that..... oh you were on that too?!", and then realise neither of us wants our online life to cross over into RL so we swiftly, and silently, agree on a change of subject. Honestly though, I don't say much on here that I wouldn't say to people to their faces, so it's not that scary to be outed.

picklemepopcorn · 05/03/2017 08:02

I recognise a few people within MN, as long as they don't name change. I can't imagine connecting anyone to RL people. If you name change every time you start a thread, and keep one name that you use to comment, I think you'd be pretty safe...

picklemepopcorn · 05/03/2017 08:05

The thing is, even if your style is recognisable it isn't searchable so the damage is limited. So you can post and rant about your SIL as jellybean, but searching jellybean won't lead anyone to anything else and you'd be unlucky if many RL people saw and recognised that post.
If there are lots of people here you know in RL, you need to tweak how many kids you have, where you live etc. Just enough to confuse.

BathshebaDarkstone · 05/03/2017 08:13

If people ask me where I got that school skirt or tablet from, I'll tell them I product tested it for Mumsnet, and I felt the need to defend it when DM thought that we all used penis beakers Hmm, but that's about it.

notanothernamechangebabes · 05/03/2017 08:22

I NC a lot too- partly due to job.
Next time I'm having HotelKefalonia. Thanks PP Grin

No, I haven't clocked your name at all so have no impression of you as either a newbie or a name changer.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 05/03/2017 09:49

Ha! Reading back, I recognise you from Korma's comment Grin Yes, I've recognised quite a few of your previous ncs too - hope all going well.

BathshebaDarkstone · 05/03/2017 20:56

Are you anyone I've spoken to? I'm hopeless at recognising styles, I usually know a HoneyDragon thread though, as they tend to be about hilarious accidents! Grin
