So my first baby is due in a few weeks. I am about to book in for a pre birth hollywood wax Shock but i also planned on having a pedicure and manicure just to feel nice. Everyone is saying ooh no i wouldn't in case you need an emergency c-section! They'll literally stand over you and make you take all the nail polish off before theatre?! Is that true?! I planned on having shellac on fingers and toes which i couldn't get off even if they stood over me so what should i do? I am not hugely vain etc i just wanted to feel nice before going through child birth. AIBU?

Don't worry, they can use toes, ear lobes, nostrils, anywhere they can fit a clip basically. They can also turn the SpO2 monitor sidewards on your thumb if they are really struggling to find anywhere else suitable.

Yes they can struggle and try and use an ear lobe (probes don't fit properly) or do without. They can guess by looking at your lips. Note the word guess. The question is whether you are prepared to remove some safety margin? I wouldn't be prepared to undergo what can be life threatening surgery without all possible safety measures.

What I find a little Shock every time this topic comes up (about twice a week) are the posters that say they have to wax/shave/use hair removal cream so the midwife isn't horrified by the sight of their bush. Do people really think trained medical professionals would be shocked by an adult human body looking like, well an adult human body?
