So my first baby is due in a few weeks. I am about to book in for a pre birth hollywood wax Shock but i also planned on having a pedicure and manicure just to feel nice. Everyone is saying ooh no i wouldn't in case you need an emergency c-section! They'll literally stand over you and make you take all the nail polish off before theatre?! Is that true?! I planned on having shellac on fingers and toes which i couldn't get off even if they stood over me so what should i do? I am not hugely vain etc i just wanted to feel nice before going through child birth. AIBU?

Just to clarify: I do not bleach. I just wax - for the greater good of all men everywhere LOL. And my actual self.

witsender · 03/03/2017 18:52

Tenshi isn't a troll. Lots of people think the whole trend for returning to pre-pubescence is very odd. If you are confident in your opinion then ours won't matter.

Happyandhungry · 03/03/2017 19:44

I dont want to look prepubescent haha ! Just coz i dont want a hairy biff when i look down and see my baby being born?!! I am especially not doing it for my husband?! Even if it was for my husband saying that makes a man a paedophile is pretty disgusting. If she isn't a troll then there is really no excuse for saying all those vile things so i will just stick with my original thought that she is a troll and so are you.

Goodness me! What cringeworthy posts you make justifying waxing your genitalia to make it look like a young girl's to make it 'clean and nice'!!

If that is not cringey and wierd I really think women today who think like that have completely lost the plot.

I pity any young girl about to embark on a sex life who has to worry about behaving and looking like women in porn movies and thinks she has to go through the pain and discomfort and expense of waxing the most sensitive part of her body with the worry of ingrowing hairs and infection, in order to feel clean and nice down there.

The western form of female genital mutilation without a doubt!

TENSHI · 03/03/2017 22:22

In my experience Happy, having a baby was one of the most beautiful, wonderful, exhillarating experiences of my life. But it was also the most brutal, powerful, axe-murder gory experiences of my life. I went though it 5 times.

The fact that you are worried about your nails and 'down there' to try and make everything tick box perfect for your birth experience is very wierd and sad indeed and I truly truly hope my dds don't have to worry about things like that when their times come.

I hope you get the birth experience you wish for and good luck with your new baby Flowers

waterrat · 03/03/2017 22:26

I can honestly tell you you will not be looking down at your fanny during birth and thinking about the hair or not hair going on down there. You just won't. But if getting the hair off matters to you then do it ! But birth is an irrelevance honestly.

bumsexatthebingo · 03/03/2017 22:29

Surely that applies to removing any body hair though? You don't get underarm hair before puberty and most women remove it in this country. I doubt that's because they want to look prepubescent. I rarely shave everything off down below but I did before giving birth the second time because I remembered how long crap is pouring out of you for afterwards and how little time you get to shower so it was purely practical. I notice you never see men who shave their faces accused of wanting to look like prepubescent boys. Very odd.

TENSHI · 03/03/2017 22:36

I don't think genitalia extends to the arms and face?! Hmm

bumsexatthebingo · 03/03/2017 22:45

It doesn't. I didn't mention genitalia. I said that underarm and facial hair isn't present before puberty so why aren't people who remove those accused of making themselves look like children?

Floofborksnootandboop · 03/03/2017 22:46

I don't think genitalia extends to the arms and face?! hmm

No, but most hair, aside from the hair on your head, is not there before puberty. So are you saying men who shave their faces want to look like pre-pubescent boys? And the same for people who shave their legs, armpits and any where else?

If you are confident in your opinion then ours won't matter.

No you're right it doesn't, but to accuse someone of being a paedo because of something I, yes I not them, choose is absolutely vile.

The point about removing underarm hair or shaving your legs is that those are not the locations of the genitalia so therefore not the body parts normally involved in sex.

Hairless genitalia became popular with the increasing access to porn. The lack of hair in porn is partly thanks to pornographers pushing the envelope and developing a market for selling material featuring the rape of children and partly in order to get a better shot of the 'action'.

mathanxiety · 04/03/2017 07:29

I see the equation of liberated/modern women and acceptance of pornography and pornified versions of 'normal appearance' has made an appearance, Sugarlumps.

So sad that you can't see the damage to women and children and actually vulnerable people of both sexes that you have been sucked into supporting.

StarlingMurderation · 04/03/2017 07:56

I notice you never see men who shave their faces accused of wanting to look like prepubescent boys. Very odd.

Interestingly, when the fashion for shaving face first took off in 300-400 BC Greece, the older generation of men were horrified than young men wanted to look like pre pubescent boys by shaving off their beards, it's mentioned in some Ancient Greek texts. Just saying.

OP, if your bump is the size mine was, you won't be able to see your muff, hairy or smooth, as the baby emerges. Unless you've got someone there holding a big mirror.

mathanxiety · 04/03/2017 07:56

Can someone tell me what is the opposite of this word 'clean' I keep on seeing?

Would you consider douching too, in the interests of cleanliness?

If not, do you realise that there was a time when douching was considered de rigeur, and there were douche ads that featured a gormless woman mystified at her man's obvious displeasure with her. Then her helpful friend whispered to her that her vagina in its natural state was actually a disgusting cesspit and no wonder hubby was always in such a foul mood/playing away.

Do you ever wonder about the association of women's natural hairy state with whatever it is that is the opposite of 'clean'? Do you wonder whose interests are served by keeping women insecure about their weight, smell, appearance of their genitalia? Is it in women's best interests to be relieved they have managed to get a man despite the fact that they do not look perfect in every detail?

Do you ever wonder if there is actually some sort of deepseated misogyny and gynophobia may be at play when women's genitalia are being discussed in terms of 'clean' and otherwise?

Do you ever wonder if the current waxing fad and previous attempts to get women to spend their money on expensive bleach (yes, bleach was the answer to the 'filthy vagina' problem) and the creation and use of women's insecurity to sell products that are unnecessary and often downright harmful might be a case of someone laughing at us all the way to the bank? Because someone is getting rich from all the waxing.

I agree 100% Maths.

Lessthanaballpark · 04/03/2017 08:09

Bravo 👏🏼 Math

Headofthehive55 · 04/03/2017 08:45

The monitor checks to see if you are getting enough oxygen to your brain. why be less safe?

TENSHI · 04/03/2017 09:00

Thank you Math for that very intelligent and thoughtful post.

As a mum of 3 beautiful dds i would absolutely despair if they were influenced by Sugar and her ilk in how they are supposed to look and feel clean and therefore gain their confidence with such warped, unnatural and damaging porno-led views that even extend to how one should look during childbirth!

Women have enough pain and discomfort to contend with without adding to it with the pressure and pain of procedures that have no medical basis!

The vitriol you spout Sugar quite frankly just shows you up.

BalloonSlayer · 04/03/2017 09:33

I agree - great post math.

I would however like to mention that the "clean" thing may only have come from the phrase "clean shaven" which we use to describe a man with neither beard nor moustache, which has no connotation with hygiene as far as I am aware. No one suggests men with beards are dirty because they are not "clean shaven". I often wonder if it means "complete" or "total" or even "nothing there" in this sense, as in "they made a clean getaway" ie leaving nothing behind.

Sorry for the diversion.

Thank you.

bumsexatthebingo · 04/03/2017 15:11

Surely where you have body hair should be your decision and yours alone? Not your gf/bf or random people on a forum. If the op wants a wax it's no-ones business but hers. No-one tells men what body hair they are allowed to remove. And no-one (these days) suggests that men who shave look like boys.
