To think, No, i don't have to let them try on my expensive shoes?

I have a collection of expensive shoes, Irregular choice, they're upward of £80 a pair and most of them are sparkly as i like the glitter.

Obviously kids tend to gravitate to the glitter, and as i have them on display in my house, when i have a couple of friends over, the little girls like to ask to look and try them on.

I always say no, but my friend told me i'm being a bit mean, because "they're only shoes."

AIBU to think that not toys and they aren't going to like it if their kid manages to damage them and i ask them to replace them if they get scuffed or scratched? ITs not like it can be polished out or hidden, it'd spoil the look of the shoe.

I don't even let my own 8yo put them on as she'd fall flat on her face.

Pike I don't believe that for a second, I imagine you are a real fashionista, I've seen you over on style and beauty.

Shoe cabinet picture required.

Notanotherpawpatrol · 24/02/2017 16:23

I want to see the shoe cabinet! 😍

Gazelda · 24/02/2017 16:23

Shit. I've been a mug.
My DH has a Lego cabinet for all his models toys.
I need a shoe 👠 cabinet. Then I need to start collecting amazing shoes.

MiddleClassProblem · 24/02/2017 16:24

Whenever people google they are just seeing the out there ones I think x

MargaretCabbage · 24/02/2017 16:25

YANBU. I'd tell my child they could look but not touch, and I'd no more ask you to get them out so they could play with them than I would an ornament. I don't think you should have to put them away or buy dressing up shoes for visiting children just in case!

I don't usually wear heels but I had a pair of IC for my wedding.

m0therofdragons · 24/02/2017 16:25

Dc do NOT touch my irregular choice shoes. They announce it to dfs whenever they come round along with "and we're not allowed on the top floor" (my bedroom)

bloodyteenagers · 24/02/2017 16:26

Chinny She does say no though.Says so in the op. It's the parents that are problem, telling her they are only shoes.

If any child chased my cats, they wouldn't be coming back until they learned to behave properly.

Oldraver · 24/02/2017 16:28

KingJoffrey Which Cheshire cat ones ? Irregular Choice or Kitty Flats ?

I have told OH he is not to bu me any

m0therofdragons · 24/02/2017 16:29

my youngest' school shoes cost that!

You youngest can't be like mine. I've given up spending much or her shoes as she trashes them in days. £80 is a decent pair of shoes. Not silly money laboutins but for us normals it's a treat.

viques · 24/02/2017 16:30

Just tell them about your chronic , hugely infectious ,life threatening verucca outbreak that has medicine's finest minds baffled.........

amusedbush · 24/02/2017 16:30

TBH, the best thing you can do with Irregular Choice shoes is put them in the bin.

No need to be rude Hmm

Venella · 24/02/2017 16:31

YANBU and you're not being "mean" either. I don't understand why someone would suggest you hide them.

I have a few pairs of IC too (I like them, they don't like me so much), completely understand you'd rather not have anyone try them on, regardless of make, really, just because they really want to.
A friendly but firm "no, I'd rather not" should suffice, to both your friend and DC., repeated as necessary.
Or take friend&DC to one of the IC shop if there's any near you and let them knock themselves out!

Displaying shoes is akin to foot fetishism? News to me.

I do find it odd that you've got shoes on display- as shoes are for wearing! Do the shoes get worn?

MrsJaniceBattersby · 24/02/2017 16:43

Crumbs1 you sound like you are bragging
theres no way i'd allow a child to play with my precious shoes

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 24/02/2017 16:45

Its not at all weird having shoes on display. I used to have built in bookshelves in my hall, and I lined all my nice shoes on them. I love looking at them, and its easier to find shoes to match an outfit that way.

And, yeah, "No, you cant wear my shoes" is totally fine, not mean. Mean would be " no, they would accentuate your cankles".

MiddleClassProblem · 24/02/2017 16:46

shoes are for wearing

Right but plates are for eating but you must have seen plates on display at someone's house or a pub etc at some point in your life? Why can't these be displayed?

Bluntness100 · 24/02/2017 16:46

Please op can we have a pic? 😃

Crumbs1 · 24/02/2017 16:47

Bragging no, bemused that someone would put factory made shoes in a display cabinet. It would be like putting a Ralph Lauren polo shirt from Gunwharf Quays in the window.

Iamastonished · 24/02/2017 16:47

IC shoes aren't to my taste either. But I wouldn't have any compunction in telling other people's children that they can't try them on or play with them.

Is it just me or does the idea of having a display cabinet for shoes endorse the stereotype that all women are obsessed with shoes?

ImYourMama · 24/02/2017 16:52

FFS, how about enjoying what you enjoy whether it's stereotypical or not? I love shoes and handbags (and have my Mulberry bags on display) but I also enjoy weight lifting, a traditionally male pursuit. Why the fuck do feminists crawl onto these threads to bash those of us who enjoy accessories and pretty things?

MiddleClassProblem · 24/02/2017 16:54

Iamastonished why does one person's cabinet have anything to do with all women?

rollonthesummer · 24/02/2017 16:55

I'm amused by a display cabinet for shoes-which room is it in?!

You don't have to let anyone try them in though-absolutely not! They WILL get damaged!

ProudBadMum · 24/02/2017 16:56

I love shoes. Not because I'm a woman but because I'm me.

I know plenty of men with stacks of trainers.
