To think, No, i don't have to let them try on my expensive shoes?

I have a collection of expensive shoes, Irregular choice, they're upward of £80 a pair and most of them are sparkly as i like the glitter.

Obviously kids tend to gravitate to the glitter, and as i have them on display in my house, when i have a couple of friends over, the little girls like to ask to look and try them on.

I always say no, but my friend told me i'm being a bit mean, because "they're only shoes."

AIBU to think that not toys and they aren't going to like it if their kid manages to damage them and i ask them to replace them if they get scuffed or scratched? ITs not like it can be polished out or hidden, it'd spoil the look of the shoe.

I don't even let my own 8yo put them on as she'd fall flat on her face.

Even if the shoes were on the living room floor, as an adult you are allowed to say some objects are not toys and are off-limits.
No way I am hiding all the objects I don't want the DC to touch.

I imagine hideous shoes like these.

Of course you aren't being unreasonable.

Adult shoes are not for playing with.

Apart from anything else, if they asked and you said no it's extremely rude of guests to question it.

OnHold · 24/02/2017 15:43

Those shoes are ugly. Id feel like a pantomime dame wearing them.

harderandharder2breathe · 24/02/2017 15:43

Yanbu for not letting them try them on but yabu for having shoes on display at all

SeaCabbage · 24/02/2017 15:44

Keep them in your bedroom like any normal person Smile.

MiddleClassProblem · 24/02/2017 15:45

I have these lurking somewhere. Down the tame end of the irregular choice spectrum but I love them

kali110 · 24/02/2017 15:47

Doesn't matter if people think they're ugly( those are only some they do, there are loads, some not out there) these are something important to the op.
Friend should respect that.

kali110 · 24/02/2017 15:47

I don't keep any shoes in my bedroom Confused

ImYourMama · 24/02/2017 15:48

Ooh MiddleClass we match! I've got the same pair Grin

OnHold · 24/02/2017 15:48

The pictures on Google of the mad shoes has just made me laugh.

They look like kids dress up shoes.I can understand why kids would want to clonk about in them.

Buy a pair of dress up shoes. Give them that to play with.

Okay, just googled them and tbh can't imagine why anyone would want to own any of them. But they are yours, you paid for them and you love them.

Your friends are crazy if they think it's acceptable to expect you to allow their children to play with them and plod around in them.

Are children supposed to be given everything they asked now?

bigearsthethird · 24/02/2017 15:52

Your shoes, why should you let other peoples kids play in them. I can understand why little girls (or boys) might be attracted to them though if they are very sparkly. Just say to them , sorry no they are very expensive and are not for dressing up.

Can we see a picture?

OnHold · 24/02/2017 15:52

Emmageddon · 24/02/2017 15:53

I LOVE Irregular Choice shoes and I would definitely have them on display. They are not just shoes, they are works of art. I am jealous you have enough for a display - I have one solitary pair, turquoise with hand stitched red roses and I have worn them 3 times and each time be terrified something or someone would spoil them Grin

Get some sparkly shoes from Poundland for the kids to wear and explain that the shoes in the cabinet aren't toys.

They do look like 'dress up' shoes........I can see why the dcs want to to try them on but either put them out of sight or just keep saying goes no or better still, get down the charity shop and pick up some pairs they can try on, and a few ribbons and sparkles, they won't know the dinference!

amusedbush · 24/02/2017 15:56

Ahh my wedding shoes were Irregular Choice (teal Fancy That, if anyone cares!).

Yes, anyone who is baffled by the display cabinet isn't familiar with IC collectors - have a look at the facebook group Irregular Choice Buy, Sell and Worship for some truly fab collections!

pigsDOfly · 24/02/2017 15:57

Why should OP have to provide dress up shoes for these children so that she can keep her own shoes safe?

'No those are my shoes and I'm afraid you can't play with them' should be perfectly adequate.

bloodyteenagers · 24/02/2017 16:01

So we have progressed from hide your stuff away... To why don't you buy the children some shoes to play dress up..
Why should op?
No is no is no.
If parents want their snowflakes to dress up they can put their hand in their pockets and buy whatever shite their children demand. Or like the rest of us and say, what the word again? Oh yeah, no.

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 24/02/2017 16:01

That is the funniest thing I've heard all... for quite some time, OP. 😂

I too need to see a photo of this display cabinet.
