Transing a 4 year old

ShadowChancellor · 24/02/2017 09:10

On Monday, all the children at my kids school were taught about being transgender because the parent of a reception kid have decided that X is actually Y and are now sending their kid in as the opposite sex and have changed their name.

According to my kid they were shown a video that was all about how if you were a boy and liked girl things and girl clothes you were a girl and it was all very positive.

No parents were told before this happened. We only found out when the kids came out of school on Monday and told us.

AIBU to a) think that transing a kid at 4 years old is more to do with the parents not liking the fact that their kid prefers girls toys to boys toys and b) that the other parents should've been told before they showed our kids this film and promoted it all in school.

Its caused a lot of confusion with the younger kids who think you can change whether you are a boy or girl just by wishing it and didn't mention at all all of the problems that it can cause.

I think the scandal will be like that of the Maudlin Launderies, stealing children from their real lives because society felt this was better for them.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 24/02/2017 21:22

Empress the teen years are the years of greatest brain plasticity - it's prime neural pathway pruning and strengthening time.

And while these children's brains are blocked from strengthening their neural pathways, they're expected to make mature decisions that will affect the rest of their life?

Italiangreyhound · 24/02/2017 21:24

Runner you are correct. Lee's has had facial feminization surgery. But when you see a photo of 16 year old Lees, the look is very feminine before surgery.

I totally agree, entitled white male, but looks very feminine all the same and did not transition before puberty.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/02/2017 21:28

Can I just ask the more knowledgeable?

My (very basic) understanding was that puberty blockers paused puberty, but when the child began hormones they would then, as far as possible, go through the puberty of the opposite sex? Eg boys would begin to grow breast and put down more fatty deposits on hips and bum etc, girls would develop facial hair and enlarged clitoris...

BillSykesDog · 24/02/2017 21:28

Fucking hell. Just looked on Paris Lees Twitter. She's really going for Germaine Greer. Her fans are posting replies saying they want her 'punished', want to 'smack her in the face with a grater' and subject her to 'medieval punishment'.

Yy Italian Paris looks ok as long as not next to a born woman, when I suspect the difference in physique would be fairly obvious.

SmileEachDay · 24/02/2017 21:37

Indeed Empress - it's an appalling idea. Teenage mental health can be so very fragile.

SoulSearcher101 · 24/02/2017 21:41

Determined to find out one way or another whether male/female brain theory is real, I searched for scholarly articles to find this one:

onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jnr.23898/full

I just love that the results: "corroborate reports of a language-related female superiority, particularly with respect to verbal fluency and verbal memory tasks" Grin

JigglyTuff · 24/02/2017 21:46

As well as big pharma, I think there is a massive undercurrent of misogyny which is fanning the flames of the transborg.

Straight white lefty men are massively behind it. They finally have a reason to champion other straight white men without seeming to support the system which puts them at its pinnacle and, as an added bonus, get a 'legitimate' reason to express all their hatred for women. Let's not forget that it's not women that are murdering and raping transwomen - it's men.

And yet women are the enemy, we're the objects of hatred, we're scum, we should die in a fire.

MammaTJ · 24/02/2017 21:48

Only read the OP but my feeling is that the parents are very set in 'Girl things' and 'Boy things' and their child has not conformed to this! Now they have decided they are TG!

I have a girl and a boy, 54 weeks apart. They did conform, in spite of having access to each others toys, but I have know plenty of children who haven't, little girls who play rough and tumble and boys who love pushing a pram around.

They have all grown up to have no issues. This is ridiculous!

aFullOnMonet · 24/02/2017 21:53

The whole thing is a huge money spinner. Surgeons, "gender identity specialists", pharmaceutical companies, and yes I agree misogyny is a core factor.

user36 · 24/02/2017 21:54

Have you watched I am Jazz? I'm sure she was about 3 or 4 when she knew she was a girl and not a boy?

Have you watched the whole series rather than the one off episode of I Am Jazz? In the series, Jazz is shown to be a very unhappy, very confused young man. He's been on antidepressants since he was about 12. He repeatedly talks about how it bothers him that boys at school won't date him even though he claims to be pansexual. I'd guess he's gay but saying 'I like biological boys' shits on the trans community so pansexual it is. There's also one episode where he tries to make himself pass out. His Mum asks him why and he says 'I don't know'. Jazz is not a glowing advert for early transition.

Also, he didn't know at 3 or 4. He claims to have known since before he could talk and has talked a bunch about how he felt/what he thought at that time. So he was a very, very late talker or he's a savant with a freakishly extensive and detailed recall of being a baby.

TalkingintheDark · 24/02/2017 22:04

JigglyTuff, I couldn't agree more: As well as big pharma, I think there is a massive undercurrent of misogyny which is fanning the flames of the transborg. And the rest of your post.

I don't think I ever realised quite how deep misogyny (including internalised misogyny in women) in our society goes till I became aware of the whole trans thing.

It takes some getting your head around.

I would not say I was more knowledgeable but here goes...

Puberty blockers stop the puberty of the person taking them, so whichever sex they are, that is the puberty they will stop. once the person stops taking the blocker, I believe the puberty, of the sex of the person who was taking will begin again.

However, Lupron, a drug used to temporarily halt puberty has shown to have some serious side effects.

www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/women-fear-drug-they-used-to-halt-puberty-led-to-health-problems/]]

The physical developments on the female body of male characteristics, or on the male body of female characteristics, are brought about by the use of cross sex hormones not by puberty blockers.

Someone wiser than me can now come and fill in the blanks.

TheOriginalChatelaine · 24/02/2017 22:15

Welcome to the new world order. If I had my time over again I would home school and not be part of this lunacy.

JigglyTuff " Let's not forget that it's not women that are murdering and raping transwomen - it's men.

This is so true, and it is so ridiculous.

thepinklantern · 24/02/2017 22:17

This programme was a very interesting watch re brains and gender.

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04knbny

Alice Roberts makes very convincing points about very subtle ways in which different genders are treated and these impacting on us. It swings back and forth a bit.

I do think it's harder for a boy to like 'girl things' than vice versa. My DH has had insecurities around some gender related things wit our son, as have some friends husbands when they had a boy after a girl. We have dolls proactively promoting being a scientist (Lottie) but not of boys being a nursery teacher for example. And I think therein lies most of the issue.

Italiangreyhound · 24/02/2017 22:28

runner many of the photos seem to be of Lees on her own so hard to tell. But my point was it is not necessary to 'escape' puberty in order to go on and have a trans future and actually going through puberty will many ensure children can actually come to terms with their newly emerging adult bodies.

Italiangreyhound · 24/02/2017 22:30

...will maybe ensure

not many ensure...

ageingrunner · 24/02/2017 22:36

Yes I quite agree re children should be allowed to go through their natal puberty. Most men are not going to look like Paris lees when they put a dress on though. And most women will look like women with beards. I wonder really if people who transition have a realistic idea of what they will look like in the end, or is it more of an un achievable fantasy for most?

venusinscorpio · 24/02/2017 23:26

No, me neither. Even as a survivor of rape and DV. Quite a wake up call. It's always interesting when you make a point of asking them why they have so much empathy for transwomen's feelings, but fuck all for women's.

venusinscorpio · 24/02/2017 23:28

Jazz is not a glowing advert for early transition.

And he thinks his sister is a walking incubator for his future baby. I hope she tells him to get to fuck.

venusinscorpio · 24/02/2017 23:31

So so true. It's great for them to be able to call women cunts with impunity. Frustrated little "beta" MRAs.

ageingrunner · 24/02/2017 23:48

Poor jazz can't understand why straight boys don't want to date him 😬 the people around jazz are selling him a dream that can't come true. It's very sad.
