Husband is a thoughtless git

Chickydoo · 11/02/2017 15:25

So have just blown a gasket.
Worked this morning, now working at my laptop, presentations to prepare.
Can smell yummy smells downstairs. DH
Preparing lunch.
I nipped down and had a look.
Roast pork with all the trimmings.
I don't eat pork, however I would be fine with the veg and potatoes, maybe a few extra mushrooms or something.
Went back upstairs carried on with work.
Got quite bogged down with it, assumed lunch must be ready, went in to kitchen to find DH & the 2 teens who are home today clearing up. They had eaten the lot! Not even a potato left. I am so cross. I cook every day of the week for all of them, but today I was busy & not even offered lunch:(

It is our anniversary tomorrow, apparently he is playing golf.
I think I am being a mug

Rant over

That's not thoughtless, its bloody rude .
I'd be tempted to go out for a slap up meal

OliviaStabler · 11/02/2017 16:48

What did he say when you challenged him and you kids?

Meridien · 11/02/2017 16:49

I suspect there's other stuff going on here, too. When he arranges to meet you somewhere is he always late, always the precise same number of minutes late each time? Does he deliberately buy you presents for birthdays and Christmas that he knows you won't like and act so dreadfully dreadfully disappointed when you want to change them?

DesolateWaist · 11/02/2017 16:50

Can you get by on things like pot noodles and tins of soup that require a very limited amount of cooking for a while? See how long until everyone gets pissed off with you not cooking for the and just looking after yourself.

Also did the children not say 'shall we give mum a shout' at any point?

Telling your friends tonight sounds like a good plan. Properly embarrass him.

happypoobum · 11/02/2017 16:50

What a cunt Sad

Unicorn81 · 11/02/2017 16:51

What an utter fuckwit, go on strike and only make youself stuff from niw on

SalmonFajitas · 11/02/2017 16:52

I am on a cooking strike until he realises what a selfish moron he is!!!!

Damn straight. I'd also be ordering a single portion of his favourite takeaway tonight and savouring every last bite.

What was his explanation? I find it actually quite baffling behaviour - if I've gone to the effort of making a roast I always make sure everyone's going to be stuffed and there will be extras for leftover. Who the hell leaves someone out?!

Whisky2014 · 11/02/2017 16:53

Yy to ordering takeaway. I see you are out tonight but make sure you order something nice tomorrow and do not order for him. I hope his "playing golf" is throwing you off for a nice surprise?

Ipsomatic · 11/02/2017 16:54

Would it not make more sense to talk to him and the kids about this?

Foxysoxy01 · 11/02/2017 16:54

Wow Shock

I find this really hard to believe! Surely nobody is actually that selfish and horrible, and the kids are just as bad!!!!

Why would nobody think that mum might be hungry too.

I would be fucking fuming and would have left the house for a night/day/weekend away for myself!!

PatriciaHolm · 11/02/2017 16:56

Have none of you actually spoken to each other today? Would a few short conversations not have either avoided this or got to the bottom of it?

Unless of course constant passive aggressiveness is your normal family dynamic.

user892 · 11/02/2017 16:56

So you didn't say anything to him??

pigeondujour · 11/02/2017 16:58

That is hard to believe. A man who did this to me would really, seriously suffer for it. Make yours.

Chickydoo · 11/02/2017 17:03

I agree with absolutely everything you have all said. I am actually in a bit of a shock state.
I work a fair bit (out of the house) at weekends & I think he has got in to the habit of cooking what he fancies. They are used to me not being home for weekend meals, but today I was home. I always cook food he likes, & food for the kids. I do cook pork & other meat for them all, and I have something else & the veggies etc.
I am so cross! He is selfish, I guess I have got used to it over the years.
I am now going to have that bath! Wine is poured. This evening I will glam up, have a giggle with my friends & make him squirm just a bit.

OP posts:
BlancheBlue · 11/02/2017 17:06

Have you actually had it out with him over this?

Charlesroi · 11/02/2017 17:06

Correct club choice is a vital golfing skill. I recommend a 7 iron - to be applied externally or internally.

Enjoy your month off the cooking and your takeaways.

Chickydoo · 11/02/2017 17:07

User 892
Oh yes I said lots (if I put what I said this thread would be deleted)
However his response " well you don't eat very much anyway"!!!!
Well DH that is because you are greedy and don't give me a chance to eat anything at all (she says with a face full of cheese & onion Pringles)

OP posts:
Purplebluebird · 11/02/2017 17:08

That's really rude! I'd be very pissed off. Also, golf on an anniversary? No way.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 11/02/2017 17:08

OP you haven't told us his explanation for why he did that. What was it?

I'm wondering if he took your disappearing back off upstairs to work after coming down and looking at the dinner (who does that without commenting on How yummy it looks and asking when it's ready, anyway?) as a signal that you didn't want any. Did you make a comment like "I won't be having that" referring to the pork and he assumed you meant the whole thing?

Surely your communication skills with each other are not that bad that you don't know how this has happened?

And more to the point, who the hell has bought a joint of pork knowing that one of the adults in the household (contributing to the food bill presumably) doesn't like it?!

I can understand if it was a type of vegetable that you would leave, but expensive meat?! Unless you're veggie, why would he have bought that as opposed to a joint that you WOULD like?

There'/ something amiss here.

Chickydoo · 11/02/2017 17:08

I am actually going to show him this thread!
Maybe he can see that normal people don't behave like this

OP posts:
CurlyhairedAssassin · 11/02/2017 17:10

Cross posts there!

Sounds like you have become a bit "invisible" to them at weekends. Not good. No wonder you're fuming.

Fairybella · 11/02/2017 17:11

Oh my gawd!!! Are u married to my dp? Saturday he cooks... when he is ready... he cleared out a wardrobe I began to cook and got yelled at!!! Ffs two hungry dcs waiting for food!
I would hit the roof.... man is selfish but am yet to find one who isn't... order yourself something yummy and squirrel it away for yourself!

Msqueen33 · 11/02/2017 17:12

What a shit! The act itself was selfish beyond belief but the fact that after you've mentioned it he's not apologised or seemed bothered. Selfish git!

user892 · 11/02/2017 17:13

That's a piss poor excuse. We're you just angry or did you get across that it's actually hurtful behaviour?

It seems actually spiteful. Does he hate you?

foodiefil · 11/02/2017 17:13

He doesn't give a shit about you. So sorry Wine
