To think someone is cheating on their Fitbit?

Totally minor and 1st world problem I know.

But is it actually possible to get 135000 steps in less than 3 days by just going about your day. That includes 65000 steps today alone.

For comparison I do between 8000 and 14000 a day. DH is training for an ultra marathon and did 65000 steps on a 30 mile run.

Someone at work was in some kind of Fitbit challenge and said she would put it on the dog every evening if her friend was winning!

highlandholiday · 08/02/2017 19:42

My max is 86,598. That was walking from 9am til midnight

Philoslothy · 08/02/2017 19:43

I misread and thought it was 13,500.
Yes a bit suspect unless they are out walking

greenmidgetgems · 08/02/2017 19:44

Your DH's running stride is less than 75cm? Is he really short? I'm 5'4'' and my long distance stride is close to 1m.

He's 5'7". No idea what his stride length is.

Pervy- great minds think alike :D

Sirzy · 08/02/2017 19:47

Even on a day when I have ran 11 miles I only get about 30,000 steps so unless they are running a marathon I struggle to see how they would get 65,000

foxyloxy78 · 08/02/2017 19:48

Does she have a kid? Maybe a little bit of cheating with DC wearing it as they run around? Those steps are too high to be legit.

IBelieveInPink · 08/02/2017 19:52

If wearing it round Asda it often doesn't count steps as pushing a trolley means your arm isn't moving in the usual way.

I call bullsh*t.

MaidOfStars · 08/02/2017 19:56

I ran a half in marathon in 25k steps last weekend. So double that and add an active day on top?

OP, he takes 65k steps run 48km - that's a short stride.

Philoslothy · 08/02/2017 19:57

Mine goes up when pushing a buggy but not when carrying washing

SallyGinnamon · 08/02/2017 19:57

DD does about 15,000 on a school day.

I was doing thousands then I realised the Fitbit was on my money-counting hand (I work in a bank). Not so many when I switched hands!

Pikmin · 08/02/2017 19:58

Highest I get on a normal day is 20k, highest ever 30k on holiday exploring.

QuimReaper · 08/02/2017 19:58

Haha! If you're going to lie, at least make it vaguely plausible! What kind of work do you do? Presumably you're in a similar role, and if you clock 8-14K a day it isn't something outstandingly active?

NeverEverAnythingEver · 08/02/2017 20:01

Whynotnowbaby I realise too that it counts piano playing.

Once it said I cycled 10 minutes. But I didn't cycle. I don't know where that one came from.

Doglikeafox · 08/02/2017 20:03

I work 7am-7pm every day, often more. Before and after work I take my dog on an hour long walk. Whilst working, I am on my feet for almost all of my day. I have a garmin watch that says that I am walking approximately 20,000 steps a day and I have my iPhone which estimates about 15,000, which makes sense since I don't carry my phone around the house with me.
My mother, who owns a fitbit, apparently is consistently getting 30,000 steps a day. This seems very unlikely to me considering she does not work, has a medical condition which means she sleeps for up to 16 hours a day and rarely leaves the house. However, she is right, the watch does often say she has done that amount of steps.

thecolonelbumminganugget · 08/02/2017 20:04

I've just cut up two leeks for dinner and it got me the 200 I needed for my target. Is she a chef?

MumBod · 08/02/2017 20:04

She's tied it to her toddler/dog.

IndigoApple · 08/02/2017 20:05

You can manually add steps via the phone app. I forgot to wear mine once and added walks to the app of approx correct time and distance. When I synced it the steps appeared on the actual fitbit. I knew how to do this from manually adding swimming!

The reason for me manually adding steps was so I didn't fall behind in the work week hustle 😁

I don't believe for a minute she's doing that number of steps.

Did you push a pushchair?

greenmidgetgems · 08/02/2017 20:06

I work in an office. I don't know what this other person does, she is a friend of a friend.

if she is cheating, what is the point? As my mother would say "the only person you are cheating is yourself"

I have done around 75000 in 3 days - I was shattered but chuffed! I literally walked everywhere!!

Grin at least you admit it

I did a goal day challenge and some guy won it with a massive % of goal. Turns out his goal was set to 5 steps

Exactly!

To the pp whose fitbit recorded cycling in error, mine did that once when I was in stop start traffic on the motorway and again when the fire alarm went off at work and we were standing around outside for ages trying to keep warm. Maybe to do with moving but not getting anywhere?! Confused

Baffledonthisone · 08/02/2017 20:12

Is she a waitress?
