DH has bought me one as a surprise, it's just a random letter and number followed by my initials (wasn't mega expensive)

But I'm just not sure about it! He thinks it's the best gift ever 😳 But he says we can just not register it and sell it on if I don't want it. I don't want to be ungrateful but what's the general consensus? Are they for twats or not?

I wasn't here when you were talking about me! No worries.

hmm"

Hmmindeed. Writing that sort of thing is like troll hunting - something of which I think the mods disapprove.

"You're ok with constant rudeness and nastiness HMC? You're in good company with Cara then!"

Blimey, that's me told!

CaraAspen · 12/02/2017 17:37

"NavyandWhite

Well if you don't preview you have no place to be pulling up posters for missing out a comma."

Believe me, all my typographical errors are just that. I have a vested interest in punctuation and so on; it goes with the territory.
Anyhow, I said I tried to avoid using the preview. On many occasions I do use it.

How rude of anyone to try to tell you off. Some people need to think before they fire off a bossy, unpleasant post like that.

MatildaTheCat · 12/02/2017 17:39

I have one which is my initials, the initial of my birthday month and the number of my birthday so equivalent of A1 MTC ( April 1st Matildathecat).
Sorry to be so common but I like it, it's mine and pretty low key.

I saw a brilliant one recently. Big black Range Rover, full dark glass windows. Number plate BULL10N. I felt suitable scared and did not encourage any road rage from said owner.Smile

Too many bad things in the world to get upset and judgey about for this to matter. My dad thought I'd been allocated mine by some random chance and was just incredulous at the miraculous coincidence. Smile

"NavyandWhite

Troll hunting? Don't put words in my mouth."

It's a comparison. Don't you understand that?

You implied I was not a new poster, no? In my opinion, that is like implying some innocent poster is a troll. Clearer? Good.

I used to have one - present from my DPs about twenty years ago. It became such a hassle to change between cars. Then when DH and I started living together and only needed one car it was time to resign the plates. I can't remember the ins and outs but it wasn't cost effective to sell the number on (I think you had to pay to keep the reg 'live' when trying to sell and mine wasn't a particularly attractive number for someone who didn't have - similar birthday and exact initials).

AYankinSpanx · 12/02/2017 17:50

A twat is a twat is a twat. Private reg or not

This sums up an awful lot.

loveslipstick · 12/02/2017 17:58

We have two, one is my maiden name and one is his surname. They didn't cost £300, more. They are a pain when you change cars. I like having ours but people don't like them on here, though the amount that are for sale each year and the number you see on the road says they are popular.

ExitPursuedBySpartacus · 12/02/2017 18:01

DH gets notes left on his car telling him it is worth money. It is the initials of organisation (probably with a membership of twats according to MNet rules). Transferring is easy on line.

WeeWaspie · 12/02/2017 18:15

DH bought me one for Christmas once, thought it was the best thing since slice bread, it has never gone on my car.

I don't mind them, but I have a heap of junk old banger which is on its last legs. He's very into his cars and I think was projecting his wish list!

EdnaCrumplehorn · 12/02/2017 18:30

Friend has a very noticeable plate and uses her daughters car for extra marital shaggings as car won't be noticed parked out of place in the town.

If it's just your initials it probably won't be obvious to others that it's personalised anyway, so I'd just keep it.
